Vesey also found a broom and stood beside it.
She lowered her head and looked at the broom on the ground. It was old and worn, with branches sticking out in all directions.
I have to fly into the sky on this thing?
Vesey didn’t feel safe even thinking about it.
Why are flying lessons at Hogwarts compulsory?
Does this crappy school not care about students’ preferences at all?
"Up!" Madam Hooch shouted again.
Vesey could only place her hand on top of the broom and shout loudly, "Up!"
To her dismay, the broom didn’t move at all. It looked just like an ordinary Muggle object.
"Speak firmly, and believe that you want it to fly!"
Madam Hooch called out from the front of the line.
Vesey’s mouth twitched.
I’m a little afraid of heights. How am I supposed to firmly believe that I want to fly?
This is ridiculous!
Knowing that she couldn’t summon the broom herself, Vesey secretly moved her wand while everyone else was calling for their brooms.
The broom floated up, and she casually caught it in her hand.
"Look! The Potter brother and sister have both done it!"
Madam Hooch shouted excitedly.
Vesey’s face froze.
Good grief, Madam Hooch. Why are your eyes so sharp?
How difficult is it for a poor student like me to blend in among top students?
And now you’re actually treating a poor student as a model of excellence?
What was even more frightening was that Madam Hooch also thought Vesey’s way of holding the broom was extremely proper.
She praised Vesey again and again until Vesey’s face turned red.
Forget it. I’ll let this one slide.
This time, because of Neville, she probably wouldn’t get a chance to demonstrate her flying anyway.
But after the actual flying lesson started, Madam Hooch wouldn’t call her a liar, would she?
Still, spending 100 Energy Points just to improve her flying wasn’t worth it to Vesey.
Even if she spent a hundred points, she would only reach the level of an ordinary person. She wouldn’t become a genius like Harry and the others. It would all be wasted.
Vesey still preferred to muddle through.
She wasn’t going to participate in Quidditch, so why should she spend hundreds of Energy Points just to make herself a genius at flying?
Forget it. Whatever.
Even if Madam Hooch called her a liar, Vesey absolutely wasn’t going to spend hundreds of Energy Points increasing her Flying Talent.
"All right, children. Now mount your broomsticks. When I blow my whistle, kick hard against the ground."
After finally finishing her instructions, Madam Hooch continued, "Keep your broom steady and listen for my whistle. Three, two—"
Before she could finish counting, Neville nervously kicked off the ground.
"Come back, boy!"
Madam Hooch shouted.
But Neville’s broom shot straight into the air.
Twenty feet.
Thirty feet...
The broom kept climbing, but Neville had already slipped off it.
Vesey immediately jumped off her own broom.
After all, her personality wouldn’t allow her to simply sit there and watch.
She drew her wand, pointed it at Neville, and shouted, "Glider!"
A pair of transparent wings appeared behind Neville.
His falling body gradually became lighter, and his descent looked much more stable.
"Don’t be afraid! We’ll be down soon!"
Vesey shouted encouragement to Neville.
Madam Hooch breathed a sigh of relief. She looked at Vesey curiously.
"What spell was that?"
"It’s an improved version of the Levitation Charm. I came up with it while reading a book."
That was true.
When she had been studying the Levitation Charm, Vesey had suddenly wondered whether giving someone a pair of transparent wings would allow them to float.
So she had experimented again and again until she came up with this spell.
"But it might be a little strange..."
Before Vesey could finish, the wings on Neville’s back suddenly lost their effect.
Fortunately, he wasn’t very high above the ground. He simply rolled across the grass before getting back up.
Vesey said sheepishly, "I should have mentioned this earlier. The wings don’t last very long, and I haven’t been able to make them into a proper spell like the Levitation Charm."
Madam Hooch shook her head.
"How could I blame you? You did what you could. Besides, Neville is fine..."
She suddenly stopped.
Vesey also opened her mouth.
Neville had come over with blood covering his face.
Madam Hooch hurried over to examine him and said helplessly, "The poor boy scraped his face on the pebbles when he fell. I’ll take him to have it looked at... Oh, don’t worry. It’s not your fault. He’ll just need some medicine."
Vesey didn’t feel guilty. She was merely a little surprised.
In the original story, Neville broke his wrist. She had always assumed that it was because he had flown too high, which was why she had conjured the wings for him.
She had thought that if she could lower his speed and let him fall from a smaller height, everything would be fine.
Who would have thought that Neville would actually land face-first on the pebbles?
And now Madam Hooch still had to take him to the hospital wing.
Vesey shook her head helplessly and silently mourned Neville’s misfortune.
Then she noticed Harry and Malfoy confronting each other.
"Give me the crystal ball!"
Harry pointed his wand at Malfoy.
Malfoy grinned.
"Give it to you? No. I’m going to throw your stupid crystal ball into the air. Let’s see if you dare to go up and get it!"
He laughed and flew into the air on his broom.
Vesey quickly hid herself among the crowd, afraid that anyone would notice her.
After all, according to her personality, she would definitely have gone over to argue with Malfoy at a time like this.
But she was afraid of heights!
Besides, she wasn’t good at flying, and she didn’t want to make a fool of herself on a broomstick in front of so many people.
When she saw Harry also fly into the air on his broom, she covered her face with both hands.
If those two fly away, they aren’t going to drag me into this too, are they?
Vesey knew that Harry would definitely be able to catch Neville’s crystal ball.
In fact, this whole show didn’t require her involvement at all, right?
She was still thinking this when she suddenly heard waves of frightened screams from the surrounding students.
Vesey subconsciously looked up.
Harry had obviously gotten hold of Neville’s crystal ball, but his broom had begun shaking violently.
Malfoy’s broom was also climbing higher and higher.
Neither of them could control their brooms. They could only be carried higher and higher into the sky, their faces growing pale.
Then, suddenly, both brooms stopped in midair.
The two of them fell from their broomsticks at the same time.
Damn!
Vesey’s mouth fell open.
What the hell is going on?
