Chapter Fifty-Two: The Terrible Three-Headed Dog
"Courage? ..."
Hermione’s expression was difficult to describe.
Because neither of them wanted to be praised for having such "courage."
"I tried to persuade them, but the Fat Lady had left... The Fat Lady is the portrait guarding the entrance to the Gryffindor common room. She left, and I don’t know where she went. I couldn’t get inside, so I followed them!"
Hermione said angrily.
Neville was a little embarrassed.
If Hermione had been trying to persuade Harry and Ron, then he had simply been locked out because he came back late and didn’t know the password.
"No matter what, thank you very much for today. Thank you for staying with my brother and Ron.
"I overslept, so I came out late. When I got here, I saw Mr. Filch, and I heard him asking Mrs. Norris to find you.
"I thought that maybe establishing a good relationship with Mrs. Norris might help you. Who knows..."
Vesey felt a little guilty, but Harry and the others were already deeply touched.
Vesey is always so silly.
Obviously, they hadn’t let Vesey come out with them, yet she still thought everything was her own responsibility.
Harry ruffled Vesey’s hair and wanted to hug her, feeling that he had to do something for his sister.
But he froze before he could say anything.
In fact, everyone was stunned.
Because a door beside them suddenly opened, and something jumped out.
It was Peeves!
He looked delighted.
Seeing Vesey and the others, he immediately began dancing around.
"Two Potters, the redhead, and the idiot... You’re going to be expelled!"
Hermione’s eyes turned red with fear.
"Don’t... please, Peeves!"
Peeves laughed arrogantly.
He leaned forward and said to everyone with a grin, "You should thank Peeves. It is Peeves’s duty to catch students wandering around at night. This is..."
He suddenly jumped up and slammed into Ron.
Ron shivered from the cold.
He shouted angrily, "Get out of here!"
That one sentence led to a huge mistake.
Peeves was angered by Ron.
He immediately shouted at the top of his lungs,
"Someone, come quickly! The students aren’t sleeping! They’re wandering through the corridor outside the Charms classroom at night!"
It’s over!
A choked sound escaped Ron’s throat.
Vesey also seemed frightened, but she still said in a trembling voice, "It’s okay. Run!"
Harry and the others immediately ran toward the end of the corridor. Vesey followed behind them. She could already hear Filch’s footsteps and voice approaching.
"Why aren’t you moving?"
She heard Hermione’s panicked voice.
Because of Harry, everyone had suddenly stopped.
It turned out that there was only one closed door at the end of the corridor, and they had nowhere else to go.
"What should we do? We won’t be expelled, will we?"
Neville cried.
Everyone’s faces grew paler and paler.
Vesey had no choice but to quickly step forward.
"Open, Alohomora!"
She pointed her wand at the door at the end of the corridor, and everyone rushed inside.
That was the sensible thing to do.
Because the moment they entered, they heard the conversation between Filch and Peeves outside.
"Peeves, where are they?"
Filch asked sinisterly.
Harry and the others were extremely nervous. Vesey could even hear Hermione’s terrified breathing beside her.
"It’s okay. Don’t be afraid."
Vesey gently reassured her.
She raised her wand and said nervously,
"If Peeves tells Mr. Filch where we are, then as soon as they open the door, I’ll Stupefy Mr. Filch. You all run away!"
"What about you?"
Hermione asked warily.
Vesey deliberately hesitated, as though she couldn’t bring herself to say what she was thinking.
Harry and the others immediately understood.
"Do you want to stay here and be punished?"
Harry asked angrily.
Vesey said nothing, but her silence clearly meant yes.
"Don’t be stupid. Just run with me when the time comes. You..."
Ron spoke excitedly.
Vesey quickly shook her head.
"But I attacked Mr. Filch! I should be punished. Don’t try to persuade me. If I did something wrong..."
Before she could finish, Hermione suddenly covered her mouth.
"Shh! Don’t talk. Something seems to be happening!"
Vesey immediately stopped moving.
She and Hermione were standing close together.
Outside, they heard Peeves’s arrogant voice:
"If you want me to help you, just say ’please.’ That’s what a gentleman should do!"
Filch gritted his teeth.
"Peeves, stop fooling around and tell me quickly! I’ll catch them and have them punished. That’s what the school ghosts should cooperate with me to do!"
"Dream on!"
Peeves ran away, laughing wildly.
Filch cursed several times in anger before finally shuffling away.
He probably assumed the door couldn’t be opened, so he had no intention of searching inside.
"I think I know why! Peeves actually hates Filch even more because Filch has reported him so many times!"
Harry said excitedly.
Then he came over to Vesey again and looked at her helplessly.
"What do you think? Even if you attacked someone, you don’t have to..."
Vesey shook her head.
She put on a righteous expression and said,
"Brother, I can’t just leave. If I did something wrong, then I hope I’ll be punished.
"Just like... just like I didn’t stop my brother from going out at night. My brother can’t be angry with me because of that!"
She seemed to summon all her courage and said it firmly.
Harry was speechless.
His sister really is a little fool.
But he thought this little fool was the best and most wonderful sister in the world.
"Vesey, have I ever told you that your brother likes you the most..."
"Brother, run!"
Harry hadn’t even finished speaking when Vesey suddenly pushed him away.
Then he saw the horror in Vesey’s eyes.
She rushed forward with a pale face and pulled Neville away just as he was about to be bitten by a huge dog.
What a terrifying dog!
It had an enormous body and three heads growing from its neck. Its three mouths were wide open, as though it could swallow them all in a single bite.
"Quick! Run!"
Vesey shouted, pulling everyone away.
Then she slammed the door shut.
Harry and the others could still hear the enormous dog barking furiously from inside.
"It didn’t come out! Great!"
Ron couldn’t help saying.
"Didn’t come out? Can’t you see that the door is locked?"
Hermione cried out in fear, clutching her chest.
"How could they possibly keep something like that inside the school?"
