Chapter Sixty-Three: Stop Always Bringing Up Gender!
Harry and the others really wanted Snape to leave. They couldn’t understand him at all.
But they were obviously at fault this time, so all they could do was hold their breath and wait for Snape to finish.
Dumbledore sighed, but didn’t stop Snape from deducting points.
After all, Snape was clearly furious this time. He looked as though he wanted to strangle Harry and the others himself.
It was probably better to let him vent his anger.
In truth, Dumbledore wanted to say that this incident was largely the result of Vesey using excessive force. If the children had come to them beforehand, things certainly wouldn’t have ended this way.
But saying that to an enraged Snape would accomplish nothing.
Dumbledore could only try to prevent Snape from saying too much, lest he become even angrier and decide to silence Harry and the others permanently.
"Potter, Weasley, Granger. Because of the behavior of the three of you, I believe I have no choice but to deduct one hundred points from Gryffindor."
Snape’s voice was sinister.
"I think you can understand how I feel, can’t you?"
Harry and the others really didn’t understand, but they nodded vigorously anyway.
They were afraid that if they hesitated even for a moment, Snape might simply draw his wand.
"All right, all right. Let’s go upstairs and have a look."
Dumbledore said this with a smile, urging Harry and the others to quickly leave Snape’s sight.
Harry and Ron hurried upstairs.
At the end of the corridor, Harry subconsciously glanced back at Snape.
He saw Snape raise his wand and casually blast apart the remains of the troll that had been lying there.
Dumbledore hurriedly stepped farther away, apparently afraid that pieces of the troll would splatter onto him.
"I really don’t know what he’s so angry about."
Harry muttered.
Just as he was about to complain to Ron and Hermione, he realized that the two of them had already gone quite far ahead.
Then he remembered that he still wanted to see Vesey.
He immediately quickened his pace.
When he rushed into the hospital wing, he saw Vesey having her wounds bandaged, and he immediately forgot everything else.
There was only Vesey in his mind.
"Madam, is Vesey all right?"
He looked nervously at Madam Pomfrey.
Madam Pomfrey raised her head. Her eyes were slightly red, but she still comforted them.
"Don’t worry, children. Vesey was seriously injured and even exhausted her magical power, but Professor Snape gave her some potions. She’ll be fine."
Harry nodded vigorously.
Yes.
His sister would get better.
---
Vesey had originally been worried that Snape would make her sleep for more than a month.
After all, Snape had a history of doing things like that.
But to her surprise, she woke up on the third morning.
Madam Pomfrey was very pleased with her recovery.
"Excellent. You’re practically as good as new. Severus’s potion-making skills really are improving."
Vesey guiltily looked away.
After all, she had never actually been injured that badly. The wounds covering her body had all been deliberately created by her.
Harry and the others had been injured so badly. Since she had been at the center of the explosion, how could she possibly have come out completely unharmed?
Wait!
"Brother! Where are my brother and the others?"
Vesey suddenly sat up.
She pretended to look worried.
Unfortunately, she had gotten up too quickly and accidentally lost her balance, falling back onto the bed.
Madam Pomfrey shook her head helplessly.
"Good girl, they’re already out of the hospital. But you were the most seriously injured."
Vesey seemed relieved.
"I almost thought..."
She lowered her head guiltily.
"I was too impulsive. Actually, I should have..."
Madam Pomfrey gently patted her hair, wanting to comfort her.
But she didn’t need to anymore.
Harry and the others had arrived to visit Vesey.
Over the past two days, they had come to see her after every class. Every time they came, Vesey had been sleeping deeply.
Madam Pomfrey had told them that Vesey would wake up once she had recovered, but they were still worried.
What if Madam Pomfrey was only saying that to comfort them?
What if Vesey never woke up?
All of those worries vanished today.
Vesey had finally awakened.
They felt so guilty that when they saw her, they were even too embarrassed to look directly at her.
Harry sighed.
He walked over and hugged Vesey.
"Don’t be like this, Vesey. No one blames you. If it weren’t for you, that troll might have killed us. Everyone knows how terrifying that thing was!"
Hermione nodded vigorously.
"That’s right, Vesey. You’re the best. You saved me from the troll. Have you forgotten?"
Vesey lowered her head as though she still felt guilty.
"I hurt all of you..."
Ron laughed.
"Not only did we get injured, we also lost a hundred points. But after we told everyone in Gryffindor what happened, they were completely shocked. It was the first time they’d ever seen such a powerful little witch!"
For once, Hermione couldn’t agree more.
"Yes! Vesey is the most powerful witch at Hogwarts!"
Their words were so sincere that Vesey found herself feeling a little helpless.
Everyone, please praise me if you want, but could you stop bringing up my gender all the time?
Can’t the most powerful wizard at Hogwarts be a girl?
She complained inwardly, but a shy smile appeared on her face.
Of course, she also deliberately looked at Hermione in surprise.
"Hermione, I don’t know why, but I feel like you don’t hate me as much today."
She paused.
"Actually, you don’t seem to hate me at all today!"
Hermione blushed.
She had never truly hated Vesey.
She had only wanted to stand beside Vesey as an equal.
"Vesey..."
Looking at Vesey’s sincere expression, Hermione suddenly rushed forward and hugged her tightly.
"I’m sorry, Vesey. The old me must have made you sad. After what happened that day, I realized how annoying I used to be. You’re the only one who has always treated me as a friend. You’re so kind!"
Vesey’s face almost revealed an expression of pure enjoyment.
This was the first time a little witch at Hogwarts had taken the initiative to hug her.
Not bad!
With a smile on her face, she happily nestled into Hermione’s embrace.
"I’ve wanted to be friends with you for a long time. I really wanted to do homework with you, but you always ignored me."
She smiled.
"It’s great now. You won’t dislike me as much as before, will you?"
Hermione felt even sadder.
It was her fault.
She had been too proud and arrogant. She knew Vesey was cute and talented, yet she couldn’t stop worrying that Vesey didn’t like her and might dislike her because of how she had behaved.
But none of those worries had been true.
Vesey had wanted to be her friend from the very beginning.
Even when no one else paid attention to her, Vesey had always insisted on greeting her.
Vesey had treated her sincerely all along.
Yet Hermione had only been able to understand that after Vesey had been seriously injured and lain unconscious in the hospital wing.
"I’m sorry, Vesey. From now on, I’ll be your best, best friend."
Hermione hugged her tighter.
"And I’ll protect you!"
