Chapter 76 Pumpkin Juice Flavored Veritaserum

Vesey was speechless.

Good grief.

So while talking about how well he had gotten along with Lily and James, Dumbledore was secretly slipping Veritaserum into their daughter’s drink?

"Pumpkin juice!"

It was already cold enough. She really didn’t want to drink lemon-flavored Veritaserum.

Dumbledore waved his wand, and a cup appeared in front of Vesey. Pumpkin juice gradually filled it.

He didn’t urge her to drink. Instead, he asked casually,

"I just heard you say that someone seems to be trying to steal something from Hogwarts. Do you know what it is?"

Vesey pouted.

We agreed to have a chat, but now you’re interrogating me?

Still, she obediently shook her head.

"I don’t know. We only know that it’s Nico—"

She suddenly covered her mouth and looked guilty.

"N-No, nothing... I don’t know either..."

She cautiously glanced up at Dumbledore, as though checking whether he had noticed her slip.

When she saw that he seemed not to have noticed, she quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

Then she asked tentatively,

"Professor, is that Secret Number One?"

Dumbledore nodded helplessly.

Vesey immediately lowered her head in embarrassment.

He definitely noticed.

Dumbledore had no choice but to change the subject.

"By the way, child, how have you been getting along with Miss Granger lately?"

He smiled ambiguously.

Vesey became extremely embarrassed.

I wish Dumbledore would just give me some more Veritaserum and get to the point.

Did he really need to ask about the details of her relationship with a female classmate?

Well, if he wanted details, she’d give him details.

Vesey shamelessly talked at length about how she and Hermione got along. She told him that they attended classes together, did their homework together, and spent a great deal of time together.

Finally, she said happily,

"I never had any friends before. Everyone thought I was ugly and told me to stay away from them.

"But Hermione is different. She’s really nice to me. I really like Hermione!"

She smiled brightly.

Dumbledore chuckled softly.

"Ah, childhood friendships are always so touching.

"But Vesey, aren’t you thirsty? You’ve been talking for quite a while. Are you worried that there’s something in my pumpkin juice?"

He said it as though he were joking.

Vesey immediately shook her head.

She picked up the cup and drank the pumpkin juice in one go.

"No, no! I was just so happy talking about Hermione that I forgot to drink it."

[Ding! Would you like to use Energy to neutralize the effects of Veritaserum and simulate the symptoms of traditional medicine?]

Use it! Use it!

Vesey immediately agreed.

The next moment, she felt as though her consciousness had sunk deep into her mind.

Everything before her became blurry.

Only the sounds around her remained clear.

"I’m sorry."

She heard Dumbledore whisper an apology.

Yeah, yeah. Consider that apology accepted.

Vesey wasn’t moved in the slightest.

She only wanted him to finish asking his questions quickly so she could leave.

Dumbledore didn’t waste any time.

He sat upright and asked seriously,

"Vesey, did you know beforehand that Neville would fall from the sky?"

Vesey froze.

She had originally thought Dumbledore would ask about the diary.

Instead, he had asked about that incident.

She immediately understood.

Right.

How could an ordinary student suddenly use a newly learned spell to help a classmate?

Especially considering Vesey’s usual behavior, she should have instinctively used the Levitation Charm.

Instead, she had used the Glider Charm.

That was indeed unusual.

Vesey sighed inwardly.

She knew that Dumbledore had been watching her all along.

It was only a matter of a spell, yet he had already suspected that she knew something in advance.

But Vesey wasn’t worried.

This was only a suspicion. Dumbledore had no evidence.

As long as she refused to admit anything, there was nothing he could do.

So she answered,

"I didn’t know Neville would fall. I was just practicing the Glider Charm around that time, so I subconsciously used it on Neville."

Her voice was hazy and sleepy.

It was obvious that the Veritaserum was affecting her.

Dumbledore believed she was probably telling the truth.

He breathed a sigh of relief.

Then he asked,

"So, Vesey, what do you think of Voldemort?"

What do I think of Voldemort?

Of course I sit and look at him.

Vesey was helpless.

Dumbledore, really? You’re asking an eleven-year-old child what she thinks about Voldemort?

Still, she had to answer.

After thinking for a moment, Vesey said hazily,

"He’s a really bad person. He killed my mother."

Dumbledore shook his head with amusement.

He really was overthinking things.

Did he seriously expect an eleven-year-old girl to give him some profound analysis of Voldemort’s ideology?

After laughing softly, Dumbledore asked another question.

"Vesey, do you know how many wives you’ll have in the future?"

Vesey nearly choked on the pumpkin juice.

What’s wrong with this old man?

What does it have to do with him how many wives I have?

But she understood immediately.

This was another test.

So she answered vaguely,

"Wife? I’m a girl. Shouldn’t I be getting married?"

As soon as she finished speaking, she frantically complained to the system in her mind.

Don’t take this stupid system seriously!

I just lied to that old fox Dumbledore!

Dumbledore was clearly stunned.

Then he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

But when he thought about it carefully, it actually made sense.

He had repeatedly told Severus that Vesey had suffered terribly in the orphanage and would probably only develop feelings for girls.

He had said it so many times that he had almost convinced himself.

But Vesey was still only eleven years old.

She hadn’t thought much about relationships yet, and naturally had the same ideas about marriage as most girls her age.

Perhaps when she grew older and understood more, she would develop a dislike of men.

It really was too early to test her on this.

Dumbledore rubbed his forehead.

Then he asked,

"All right. Next question, Vesey. What do you think of Harry?"

Vesey immediately became serious.

She knew this was the question Dumbledore had really wanted to ask.

And if she wanted to answer it properly, she had to choose her words carefully.

She was willing to die for Harry.

Vesey already had her answer prepared.

"Harry is my brother. He’s my only family.

"My brother is very good to me, so I have to be good to him too.

"My brother suffered a lot in the past. When he came here, he was so thin and small. Even though he never told me about it, I knew that his childhood must have been very difficult.

"If only I had been there back then. I could have protected my brother from the very beginning."

Dumbledore’s blue eyes were filled with emotion.

He remained silent for a long time.

Finally, he said,

"My child, your life has been even more difficult than his."
