Chapter 77 — The Invisibility Cloak
Vesey didn’t answer Dumbledore’s words, and Dumbledore certainly didn’t expect her to.
He looked out the window and pondered for a moment before continuing.
"So, one last question, Vesey. Why do you want to make a Vampire Transformation Potion?"
Here it comes.
Vesey knew Dumbledore would ask this question eventually.
After all, she had said from the beginning that if she wanted to introduce the Vampire Transformation Potion, she needed a suitable opportunity. If she suddenly produced the formula out of nowhere, nobody would believe it.
Apparently, Dumbledore was suspicious of where she had obtained such knowledge.
That was perfectly normal.
It was practically unbelievable for a first-year student to be capable of creating such a potion.
Fortunately, Vesey had already thought of an answer.
She put on a confused expression.
"Didn’t want to make a Vampire Transformation Potion?"
Don’t admit anything in the first place.
How easy.
No matter how many doubts he had, if she simply refused to acknowledge them, there was nothing he could do.
Dumbledore was stunned for a moment.
Then he understood.
The diary had said that Vesey developed the inspiration for the potion during her first year, but it had never said that she had the idea before Christmas of her first year.
Perhaps something happened during the second half of the school year...
Dumbledore’s expression immediately became serious.
What could have happened during the second half of first year?
Could it have something to do with vampires?
And could that incident have inspired Vesey to develop the Vampire Transformation Potion?
It seemed possible.
But what exactly had happened?
Dumbledore’s eyes darkened slightly.
It seemed he would need to observe Vesey more carefully from now on.
And the diary...
He really hoped the diary would give him some clues.
Dumbledore waited silently for a moment before standing up.
He raised his wand and carefully placed its tip against Vesey’s temple.
"Obliviate."
[Ding! The host’s memory is being erased. Would you like to use Energy to counteract the effect?]
Yes!
Vesey sighed inwardly.
Then she felt an additional memory appear in her mind.
It depicted a completely different version of what had just happened.
In this fabricated memory, after drinking the pumpkin juice, Vesey and Dumbledore had simply chatted about the Quidditch match.
The conversation had gone rather well.
From Vesey’s perspective, Dumbledore in the memory was a very pleasant conversationalist.
She shook her head, saw Dumbledore smiling at her, and remembered that she had just said goodbye to him and should leave.
She obediently walked out of the office and closed the door behind her.
"Vesey, where have you been?"
When Vesey came downstairs and entered the Great Hall, she ran into Harry and Ron.
They were so excited to see her that they didn’t even have time to ask where she had been.
Instead, they immediately showed her the Invisibility Cloak Harry had received that day.
"An Invisibility Cloak!"
Vesey exclaimed.
"Brother, when did you buy this? How much did it cost? Do you still have enough money? I still have some. I’ll get it for you..."
Harry quickly grabbed her before she could leave.
He helplessly ruffled her red hair.
Silly sister.
"Don’t go. This is Dad’s old Invisibility Cloak. Look at the note!"
He showed her Dumbledore’s note.
Vesey read it for a moment, and her eyes immediately turned red.
She stared eagerly at the Invisibility Cloak.
"Brother... this belonged to Dad. I’ve never even seen Dad..."
Harry felt an ache in his heart.
He always felt that, compared with Vesey, he had been much luckier.
At least he had lived with their parents for more than a year when he was little.
Sometimes he could still dream about their voices.
Sometimes he dreamed of that terrifying green light.
Even if those dreams were nightmares, they were still memories of his parents.
Vesey had none of that.
No one even knew why she had ended up in the orphanage.
No one had known that Lily had given birth to twins and that her daughter had been separated from the family.
Seeing Vesey’s sadness, Harry immediately pushed the Invisibility Cloak toward her.
"Someone gave this to me, but I think it should belong to you, Vesey. You’re the one who deserves it most!"
Harry said generously.
Although he liked the Invisibility Cloak too, he was willing to give Vesey anything he had.
Vesey shook her head.
She pushed the Invisibility Cloak back toward him.
This was something Dumbledore had reluctantly returned to Harry.
If she took it, wouldn’t Dumbledore eventually come looking for her?
"I can’t take it. I think my brother should have the Invisibility Cloak more than me."
Seeing Harry frown, Vesey thought for a moment before adding,
"If you’re really worried about me, you can let me play with it for a while. I want to wear it and feel Dad’s presence."
Harry smiled.
"All right. You can play with it!"
He immediately draped the Invisibility Cloak over Vesey.
Her figure disappeared.
Harry and Ron wandered around in amazement, trying to find her.
But the cloak worked perfectly.
Vesey had completely blended into her surroundings.
Unless Harry reached out and physically felt for her, he couldn’t find her at all.
"Wow, brother! The Invisibility Cloak is amazing!"
"Then keep it on. Let’s go into the Great Hall like this!"
Vesey pretended to be excited and allowed Harry to pull her along.
Since there were relatively few students at Hogwarts during the holiday, they didn’t sit separately by House.
Everyone sat together for the meal.
As soon as Vesey entered the Great Hall, Dumbledore’s eyes immediately fell on her.
He smiled, picked up a wizard’s hat, and placed it on his head.
"Come and eat!"
he called to them.
Vesey sat between Harry and Ron.
At first, she wondered whether one of the professors would ask where she had been.
But what left her speechless was the way Harry and Ron sat.
Their positions practically made it look as though there was an invisible person sitting between them.
The professors who had known James Potter and his friends immediately understood what was going on.
Snape gave Dumbledore a cold snort.
He was clearly unhappy.
Dumbledore giving Harry the Invisibility Cloak was practically a provocation.
After all, James Potter and his friends had used that very cloak to sneak around and torment Snape countless times.
Fortunately, Vesey was the one wearing it this time.
If Harry had been wearing the Invisibility Cloak, Snape might have immediately found an excuse to deduct points from Gryffindor.
After dinner, Harry and Ron dragged Vesey over to play with the wizarding crackers.
When these colorful wizarding crackers were pulled apart, all sorts of little toys could pop out.
Sometimes even small animals.
For example, mice.
Harry stuffed all the mice into his pockets, planning to take them back and keep them.
But Vesey noticed that Mrs. Norris took advantage of Harry not paying attention and ate the mice one by one.
Harry only discovered this after leaving the Great Hall.
He secretly cursed Mrs. Norris several times.
But when he saw Vesey’s surprised expression, he quickly stopped.
He didn’t want his cute little sister thinking he was a rude person.
