Chapter 85 — Should We Believe Him?
The next day, around noon.
Harry took his broom and walked toward the Quidditch pitch with the other Gryffindor players.
The entire team was filled with a tense and gloomy atmosphere. When Vesey looked over, she found that everyone’s hands were trembling with nervousness.
After all, Snape was the referee this time, and none of the Gryffindors thought they could possibly win.
Even Hermione wasn’t optimistic. She had even learned a few spells, hoping she could help Harry if something happened.
But Vesey knew it was pointless.
Even if Snape really wanted to attack Harry, he wouldn’t have the time.
Because...
Only three minutes into the match, Harry caught the Golden Snitch.
The Gryffindors erupted in cheers.
Snape’s face looked rather unpleasant. When Vesey saw his cold expression, she turned around and left.
He even spat angrily on the ground, probably because Harry’s gesture had brought back some unpleasant memories from the past.
Vesey smiled and shook her head before heading toward the Gryffindor stands to find Hermione and the others.
As soon as she got there, however, she saw Ron, Neville, and Malfoy fighting.
Hermione was screaming from the side, trying to pull them apart.
When she saw Vesey approaching, she hurriedly called out,
"Don’t come over! They’re fighting!"
But Vesey didn’t stop.
She rushed toward Ron and the others, waved her wand, and a rope shot out, wrapping itself around Malfoy and the others.
They angrily tried to break free, but it was useless.
Ron thought they were trying to fight back and punched Malfoy hard in the face.
"Reparo!"
Vesey saw that Ron’s nose was bleeding from the fight. She pointed her wand at him, and the injury immediately healed.
[Ding, Energy +1.]
Vesey’s eyes lit up.
Could treating someone’s injuries increase her Energy?
Could it be that she had misunderstood the system?
Was she actually supposed to be a healer?
To test her theory, she even healed the injuries of Malfoy and his two companions.
[Ding, Energy +1.]
Sure enough.
Vesey wondered if she had misunderstood the system.
Had she discovered that she could now earn Energy by acting like a healer?
She suddenly had the urge to injure someone herself and then heal them afterward.
Would that exploit the system’s loophole?
Just as she was seriously considering it, Hermione had already rushed over.
"Oh my goodness! Vesey, you really scared me! You shouldn’t have come over! What if they hurt you?"
She looked Vesey up and down.
Vesey replied instinctively,
"But I couldn’t just watch Ron get hurt!"
[Ding, Energy +10.]
[Ding, Energy +10.]
Vesey froze.
Huh?
She wasn’t a healer, so why had she received so much Energy?
Then she saw the deeply moved expressions on Ron’s and Hermione’s faces.
At last, she understood.
She hadn’t misunderstood the system in the first place.
The Energy Point Generator harvested emotions.
She had previously thought that healing someone had given her Energy, but Ron and Malfoy must have felt grateful—or some other strong emotion—when she treated them.
Thinking of this, she glanced contemptuously at Malfoy and his companions.
She had healed Ron and received a little Energy.
She had saved all three of them and received only a little more.
Some villains really needed to reflect on themselves.
Why were they so annoying?
But for the sake of maintaining her persona, Vesey still waved her wand and released the ropes binding Malfoy and the others.
Malfoy snorted at her.
He looked rather angry.
[Ding, Energy +1.]
Vesey was even more disgusted.
He looked so angry, yet she had only gotten a single Energy Point from him.
Apparently, even his emotional reactions weren’t very strong!
"You three, go back!"
Malfoy ignored her. He wiped the blood from his face before glaring at Neville and Ron.
"You two just wait. I won’t let my father get away with this!"
With that, he turned and left without looking back.
At the same time.
Harry was changing in the Quidditch changing room.
After changing his clothes, he was about to put his broom away when he suddenly caught sight of Snape’s sneaky figure wearing a hood.
To Harry, this was the perfect combination of victory in the match and an opportunity to catch his enemy.
He saw Snape heading toward the Forbidden Forest.
Harry immediately mounted his broom and followed him.
He flew straight into the Forbidden Forest.
Because there were trees everywhere, Harry temporarily lost sight of Snape. He could only fly around, searching for where Snape might have gone.
Finally, when he reached a dark clearing surrounded by trees, he heard Snape’s voice.
More importantly, he heard Vesey’s name.
Harry immediately held his breath and carefully lowered his broom so that he could eavesdrop.
"No, I don’t know... I don’t know why you... want to mention Vesey. I don’t know... I don’t know... I don’t know what you want to... say..."
It was Quirrell’s stammering voice.
Harry became even more alert.
"I think you know exactly what I want to say. I’ve already told you everything you need to know.
"But you still have no intention of fulfilling your promise. I told you that my kindness toward her is nothing but an illusion... She’s just a woman!"
Snape’s voice was exceptionally cold.
Harry clenched his fists.
He felt deeply indignant on Vesey’s behalf.
Vesey had shown Snape nothing but sincerity, yet Snape had actually called her "just a woman"!
At that moment, Harry heard Quirrell mutter something under his breath.
He couldn’t make it out, so he moved a little closer.
Still, he couldn’t hear it clearly.
Only Snape’s voice remained exceptionally clear.
"Enough. Have you figured out how to get past the three-headed dog?"
"But, but, but... Severus, I..."
Quirrell stammered.
Snape took a step forward.
"You don’t want to become my enemy, do you?"
"I, I don’t know... I don’t know..."
Snape scoffed.
"You know exactly what I’m talking about. Don’t pretend. I know everything!"
Quirrell whispered something again.
Then Harry heard Snape say disdainfully,
"I’ll be waiting for your little secret trick!"
"But, but... but I..."
Quirrell continued stammering, but Snape seemed to have lost patience.
He pulled his hood over his head and said,
"That’s enough. I think we can discuss this matter after you’ve decided clearly who you’re loyal to!"
He turned and walked away.
Harry watched Snape’s back before following him.
He didn’t notice at all that, beneath the flashes of thunder and lightning, Quirrell—who was supposed to be an honest and harmless professor—was wearing a variety of strange expressions.
He even whispered,
"Master, should we believe him? He said that Potter is just an ordinary woman, and he actually doesn’t care much about her. Do you think that’s true?"
