Chapter 87 — That Must Be Extremely Strange.
Harry and the others weren’t concerned about whether Nicolas Flamel wanted to live forever. They simply didn’t want Snape to get his hands on the Philosopher’s Stone.
Especially Harry and Ron.
The two of them firmly believed that Snape was trying to steal the Philosopher’s Stone while Quirrell was protecting it.
So they began secretly watching Quirrell every day.
They hoped he wouldn’t reveal how to get past Fluffy.
But Quirrell was obviously quite resilient. Although he looked pale every day, he never actually collapsed.
In an effort to encourage Quirrell, Harry would give him an encouraging smile whenever they crossed paths.
Ron would even tell everyone to stop laughing at Quirrell.
This behavior earned Ron Vesey’s praise several times, which left him excited for days.
Of course!
Besides that, whenever Harry and Ron went to the end of the fourth-floor corridor, they would still listen to Fluffy’s growling through the door.
Only after hearing Fluffy’s roar would they leave with peace of mind.
Hermione didn’t criticize their behavior.
Because she was busy too.
She was busy taking notes and making study plans.
It seemed the final exams were approaching.
Harry and Ron were puzzled.
"There’s still a long time before the exams!"
Hermione felt that these two were beyond saving.
"There are only ten weeks left until the exams! I really don’t understand why you’re still so relaxed. Can’t you sit down with Vesey and me and review your lessons?"
Ron and Harry were even more helpless.
"Why do we need to review? We really don’t understand. You two have already learned everything!"
Hermione glared at them.
"Why review?"
she demanded.
Then she looked toward Vesey.
At that moment, Vesey was reading a thick book, seemingly unaware of their conversation. She occasionally turned a page.
"See? Vesey is a genius, and she works so hard. Why should I be lazy? And can’t you two learn from Vesey and read a book?"
Vesey, whose name had suddenly been mentioned, raised her head blankly.
She had actually been reading a storybook in her mind and had no idea what Hermione was talking about.
Hermione didn’t bother her.
She simply gestured for Vesey to continue reading before turning back to Harry and Ron.
"Did you see that? Vesey works so hard. How can you two have the nerve to sit around doing nothing?"
Harry and Ron were thoroughly defeated by Hermione and felt extremely aggrieved.
The exams were still so far away, so why was she already this enthusiastic?
Unfortunately, Vesey seemed to think the same way Hermione did.
They were given mountains of homework.
The Easter holidays weren’t nearly as enjoyable as Christmas because there was simply too much homework.
And even after finishing their assignments, Harry and Ron still had to sit miserably in the library.
After all, Hermione would recite the twelve uses of dragon’s blood to them, make them practice spells, or explain precautions for various things. It made it impossible for them to relax and enjoy themselves.
Not to mention that Vesey would also occasionally find books to read in the library.
After finishing her homework, she would pick up some huge book and read it carefully. Sometimes they would talk to her, but she wouldn’t hear them at all.
Perhaps because Vesey was such a serious and slow reader, whenever Hermione asked her a random question about a book she had read, Vesey could explain it clearly, as though she had completely understood the entire book.
"I’ll never remember all this. I’m an idiot. Vesey and I are a hundred Nicolas Flamels apart, okay?"
One afternoon, after Hermione had once again tested Ron on his memorization, he finally complained angrily.
He threw down his quill and stretched hard.
Then he greedily looked out the window.
The sky outside was clear and bright, with warm sunshine and a gentle breeze.
It was the first genuinely pleasant weather they had experienced in several months.
He really wanted to go outside and play for a while. Even lying beside the lake and basking in the sun would have been wonderful.
When Vesey heard Ron call her name, she quickly raised her head and looked at him in confusion.
Ron hurriedly apologized.
"Oh, sorry, Vesey. You’re reading so well. I disturbed you!"
Vesey had been so focused on reading that everyone was afraid of interrupting her train of thought.
Vesey smiled and shook her head.
"It’s fine. It’s actually good to look up and give my mind a little break."
[Ding, Energy +10.]
Ron immediately blushed at her smile. He was about to praise Vesey when he suddenly spotted Hagrid hurrying past the library.
He immediately called out,
"Hagrid! What are you doing?"
Hagrid was startled. He quickly hid something behind his back and walked over.
"Just looking around!"
A strange glint flashed in Hagrid’s eyes.
This immediately caught Harry and the others’ attention.
They wanted to ask Hagrid what he was doing, but Hagrid cautiously asked,
"What are you doing here? Are you still looking for information about Nicolas Flamel? I told you, you should give up..."
His words made Ron and the others laugh.
Ron proudly said,
"We knew who Nicolas Flamel was ages ago, and we even know that Fluffy is guarding the Philosopher’s Stone..."
Hagrid immediately covered Ron’s mouth.
Ron nearly suffocated under his enormous hand.
"Shh!"
Hagrid said anxiously.
"Keep your voice down! Don’t let anyone else hear you. What do you want?"
Harry immediately said,
"We want to know about the defenses protecting the Philosopher’s Stone. What else is there besides Fluffy?"
Hagrid was helpless.
"Shhh! Listen, you lot. Come and see me later... I never said I’d tell you anything. I just don’t want the other students knowing. They’ll think I’ve told you some secret!"
Hagrid sighed.
Then he looked at Vesey, and his expression immediately softened.
"Oh, little Vesey’s here too. I heard them say you’ve been studying hard every day. Look at you, you’ve lost weight! I’ll give you some good food to build you back up later!"
Vesey quickly shook her head.
She absolutely didn’t dare eat anything from Hagrid’s place.
Hagrid had even eaten rat meat before. There was no way she was going to risk eating whatever he brought her.
Of course, she couldn’t say that directly.
Instead, she looked at Hagrid awkwardly.
"Hagrid, you must be mistaken. I’ve actually gained a pound recently! Look, I’ve even got a little fat on my belly..."
She started to lift her clothes to show him her stomach, but everyone immediately stopped her.
"What’s wrong?"
Vesey looked at Harry and the others in confusion.
When she saw their flushed faces, she finally realized that she was a girl now, and perhaps showing her stomach like that wasn’t appropriate.
But she still found it ridiculous.
Back in her previous life, it wasn’t unusual for girls to go outside wearing crop tops that exposed their stomachs and waists.
Why did wizards seem even more conservative than Muggles?
Still, seeing Harry and the others’ expressions, she pretended not to understand, lowered her clothes, and said,
"Anyway, I’ve already gained weight. Hagrid, you’d better stop giving me things that make me fatter. If I get too fat, everyone will definitely dislike me!"
Hagrid immediately protested angrily.
"Who would dislike you? You’re not fat at all! You’re so cute!"
Of course, Vesey knew that she was cute.
But if she actually became chubby, she couldn’t imagine Hermione still hugging her despite her extra weight.
That would be extremely strange.
