Chapter 88: Chapter 88 — Raising Dragons?

Chapter 88 — Raising Dragons?

Vesey talked to Hagrid for a while, and eventually Hagrid gave up on the idea of giving her extra food to help her gain weight.

"Okay! See you later!"

Hagrid said goodbye to Vesey before turning around and walking away.

"What is he hiding behind his back?"

Hermione asked warily.

"Could it be a book about the Philosopher’s Stone?"

Harry’s eyes lit up.

Ron stood up immediately.

"I’m going to look for the book he just took!"

He had already had enough of studying. Naturally, whenever he got the chance to get up and walk around, he wasn’t going to waste it.

After a while, Ron returned.

He was carrying a pile of books. He put them all on the table and said mysteriously,

"Let’s take a look! These are the kinds of books he’s been reading!"

Harry and the others looked over and realized that they were all books about dragons.

Hermione frowned.

"Why does he want to read books about dragons? Does he want to raise one?"

Ron immediately shook his head.

"It’s illegal to raise dragons privately. In 1709, the Ministry of Magic passed a law banning the private breeding of dragons. That’s impossible!"

Harry hesitated.

"But Hagrid told me that he really wants to raise a dragon!"

Ron and Hermione’s mouths fell open.

"He wouldn’t actually raise a dragon, would he?"

they exclaimed in shock.

Although the idea was bizarre, it didn’t seem like something that would bother Hagrid very much.

"Let’s go take a look!"

Hermione immediately stood up and headed toward Hagrid’s hut.

Vesey was still engrossed in her novel. She didn’t really want to move and simply wanted to continue reading, so she immediately said,

"I think you’re overthinking it. Hagrid is a very nice person. How could he possibly do something illegal?"

[Ding, Energy +10.]

Those words earned her thirty Energy Points.

Vesey thought they might actually sit down and give up on investigating Hagrid, but instead, they immediately pulled her to her feet.

"Come on, silly Vesey. It’s time for you to get up and move around. You need to rest when you read like this every day!"

Hermione said firmly.

She closed Vesey’s book and put it back in its proper place.

Vesey could only close the book in her mind and follow them to Hagrid’s hut.

When they arrived outside Hagrid’s cabin, Harry and Ron immediately looked as though their suspicions had been confirmed.

"He must be doing something suspicious!"

After all, the curtains of Hagrid’s hut were drawn tightly shut, and the door was firmly closed. Anyone would find it strange.

They knocked on the door.

Hagrid first asked who it was.

After they answered, he opened the door.

But he only opened it a crack.

If the four of them hadn’t all been thin, they probably wouldn’t have been able to squeeze through.

Once they entered, Hagrid immediately locked the door behind them.

It was extremely hot inside.

Vesey fanned herself with her hand, pretending not to notice anything unusual, and asked worriedly,

"Hagrid, why are you burning the fireplace? Are you sick?"

[Ding, Energy +10.]

[Ding, Energy +10.]

[Ding, Energy +10.]

[Ding, Energy +10.]

Hagrid looked at Vesey with a touched expression.

He felt a little guilty, but he still didn’t dare tell her the reason.

Instead, he invited them to sit on a large chair, poured them some tea, and served them some mole sandwiches.

"So, you have something you want to ask me?"

Hagrid looked at them knowingly.

They nodded vigorously.

"That’s right, Hagrid. We wanted to ask: besides Fluffy, what other protective mechanisms are guarding the Philosopher’s Stone?"

Harry asked directly.

Hagrid shook his head.

"First of all, I can’t tell you. It’s confidential. I promised Dumbledore I wouldn’t tell anyone.

"Secondly, I don’t know what other mechanisms the professors arranged besides mine."

Harry and Ron were a little disappointed.

They had already expected that Hagrid might refuse to tell them.

So they immediately brought Vesey into the conversation.

Hermione said sweetly,

"Hagrid, look, Vesey has lost weight recently. It must be because she’s been worrying so much about this. She doesn’t even want to eat or drink properly. Can you really bear to see poor Vesey like this?"

Vesey’s mouth twitched.

Just a moment ago, she had said she had gained weight, and now Hermione was claiming she had lost weight.

Was this Schr?dinger’s body weight?

Besides, did Hermione really think that pushing Vesey forward would make Hagrid tell them?

Logically speaking, Hagrid only became talkative after Hermione said something flattering about him.

Hermione couldn’t seriously think that simply using Vesey would work, could she?

Vesey sighed and looked at Hagrid for a moment, pretending to be caught off guard.

Just when she thought Hagrid would refuse, Hagrid vigorously rubbed her head.

"Oh, little Vesey, you’re so cute! All right, all right!

"I’ll tell you! It’s actually no big deal.

"Besides taking Fluffy from me, Dumbledore also found Professor Sprout, Professor Quirrell, Professor Flitwick, Professor McGonagall..."

He paused.

"Oh, and Professor Snape too. Listen, he’s also one of the guardians. How could he possibly steal the Philosopher’s Stone? Right, Vesey?"

Vesey nodded vigorously.

"Yes! Professor Snape is very nice, just as nice as Hagrid!"

[Ding, Energy +10.]

[Ding, Energy +10.]

[Ding, Energy +10.]

[Ding, Energy +10.]

Hagrid grinned and looked at Harry and the others.

"Listen! Listen to what Vesey thinks. She’s always so cute!"

Harry and Ron twitched their lips.

They knew Vesey was cute, and they were often moved by her innocence and kindness.

But listen to Vesey?

She probably thought even Filch was a good person!

Vesey’s opinions had absolutely no value as evidence.

They simply needed to protect her.

Harry and Ron exchanged a glance, already convinced that their reasoning was correct.

Snape might have obtained the protective magic arranged by several of the other professors, but the only ones he hadn’t figured out were Quirrell’s and Hagrid’s.

They quickly asked worriedly,

"Hagrid, you didn’t tell anyone how to get past Fluffy, did you?"

Hagrid shook his head.

"How could I tell anyone? I’m not some bigmouth. Why would I tell people something like that?"

He looked particularly determined, and Harry and the others breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Hagrid had been repeatedly told to keep this secret. There was no way he would tell anyone.

Hagrid firmly promised that he would keep it secret.

In other words, his life was there, and the secret was there. No one would ever be able to learn anything about the Philosopher’s Stone from him!

Vesey looked at Harry and the others’ blind optimism and really wanted to tell them that Hagrid, the biggest blabbermouth around, had already traded this secret for a dragon egg.

And that dragon egg was currently sitting inside Hagrid’s fireplace.
