Chapter 89 — Send It Away Now!

Vesey didn’t say what she had been complaining about, but Harry and the others already knew.

After hearing Hagrid’s assurance, they finally began to feel how unbearably hot it was.

"Hagrid, can you open the window? It’s really hot!"

Hagrid hesitated before saying, "If you think it’s too hot, you can go back. We can get together another time."

As he spoke, his eyes unconsciously flicked toward the fireplace.

Ron noticed immediately.

He stood up and looked into the fireplace.

Hagrid also stood up, trying to block his view, but it was already too late.

Ron had seen it.

"Hagrid, what’s that?"

Hagrid rubbed his hands together awkwardly, not knowing what to say.

Vesey pretended to be curious and walked over to take a look.

Then she stared at Hagrid in disbelief.

"Dragon eggs! Hagrid, don’t you know it’s illegal to raise a creature like this?"

Of course Hagrid knew.

If he didn’t, why would he have been acting so sneaky about it?

Even Vesey and the others hadn’t dared to say anything.

"Where did you get it? Did it cost a lot of money?"

Ron studied the dragon egg with great interest.

Hagrid glanced at Vesey, who looked a little angry, and lowered his voice.

"I didn’t spend any money. I just drank... I won it from a stranger while playing cards..."

Seeing Vesey’s expression become even more serious, Hagrid grew nervous.

"Vesey, you won’t report me, will you?"

He knew how seriously Vesey took the law.

But Vesey shook her head.

She said with a slightly guilty expression, "Hagrid, you’re my friend, and you haven’t done anything to hurt anyone. I won’t report you.

"But you have to find a way to deal with the dragon egg. Right now, it’s only an egg. Once it hatches, it’ll be a dragon. You can’t raise a dragon in your house, can you?

"It’s unfair to the dragon, and it’s dangerous for you. It might even eat you!"

[Ding! Energy Points +10.]

[Ding! Energy Points +10.]

[Ding! Energy Points +10.]

[Ding! Energy Points +10.]

Of course Hagrid knew that.

He simply couldn’t bear to part with it.

He sat there, staring at the dragon egg with tears in his eyes.

"It’s only an egg. It doesn’t even have a mother. How can it survive without me?"

Vesey was helpless.

If he handed the dragon egg over to Dumbledore, Dumbledore would definitely take care of it.

But she obviously couldn’t suggest that. Given the persona she had built, all she could do was appear sympathetic and worried.

She looked caught in a dilemma before finally saying, "Then... hatch it first and send it away afterward, okay?"

[Ding! Energy Points +10.]

[Ding! Energy Points +10.]

[Ding! Energy Points +10.]

[Ding! Energy Points +10.]

Hagrid immediately nodded excitedly.

"Okay! Once this little fellow hatches, I’ll send it away!"

He sounded extremely confident.

Vesey didn’t believe him at all.

After all, once the little dragon actually hatched, Hagrid would probably be even more reluctant to part with it.

Since Hagrid was keeping a dragon, everyone was obviously worried.

Vesey looked even more uneasy.

But she said nothing, keeping everything to herself.

She told Harry and the others that they couldn’t casually talk about this because they might accidentally reveal the secret and get Hagrid into trouble.

Harry and the others felt even more troubled.

Ron sighed.

"When will we ever be able to live a peaceful life?"

Vesey, of course, knew the secret to living a peaceful life.

Stay away from the protagonist group.

Treat every strange thing happening at Hogwarts as if you knew nothing about it.

Stay away from every danger.

Most importantly, stop trying to interfere with other people’s affairs and simply respect their fate.

But Ron obviously couldn’t do that.

He was one of the protagonists, after all.

Vesey could only give him a sympathetic look.

The days that followed became peaceful again, at least temporarily.

Vesey returned to her usual pretentious reading life.

Of course, she now had another activity: looking worriedly in Hagrid’s direction.

That way, she could easily earn Energy Points from Harry and the others.

During this period, Vesey even extravagantly spent some Energy Points to watch movies and TV shows from her previous life.

Life was wonderful.

Unfortunately, that peaceful life didn’t last long.

One morning, Hagrid sent them a note.

There was only one sentence written on it:

It’s about to hatch.

Those words immediately excited everyone.

At the same time, they couldn’t help wanting to witness the little dragon hatching.

Ron didn’t even want to attend Herbology and wanted to go straight to Hagrid’s hut.

But Hermione refused without hesitation.

"No. Class is more important!"

Ron became anxious.

"How many times in a person’s life can you watch a dragon hatch?"

Hermione still refused.

"We can’t skip class. Otherwise, we’ll cause trouble for Hagrid. If someone finds out that Hagrid has been raising a dragon, then he’ll..."

Vesey immediately covered Hermione’s mouth.

"Stop talking! Malfoy is eavesdropping!"

Hermione turned around in horror.

Malfoy’s expression was strange.

He didn’t look as though he had heard some huge secret, but he didn’t look as though he hadn’t heard anything, either.

The three of them were terrified and could only keep quiet, afraid that they might accidentally reveal something.

Ron and Hermione were even more frustrated.

They should have been like Vesey and kept everything bottled up instead of blurting things out.

Now they were in trouble!

When the bell finally rang to signal the end of class, they still couldn’t resist the temptation to see the little dragon hatch.

They hurried from the castle to Hagrid’s hut.

The moment Hagrid saw them, he opened the door and let them inside.

"You came just in time! It’s about to come out!"

They entered the hut.

The dragon egg was sitting on the table. A deep crack had already appeared across its shell.

Then came a sharp crack!

The crack widened.

Finally, the dragon egg split into two halves.

A tiny dragon wobbled unsteadily on the table.

Vesey carefully examined the little creature and wanted to reach out and touch it.

But Ron beat her to it.

The moment he touched the dragon, it spat fire at him.

Vesey immediately abandoned the idea of touching it.

And it wasn’t just Ron.

Hagrid reached out as well and was promptly bitten on the finger.

Judging from the force of that bite, Vesey suspected that if she had put her hand there, the little dragon might have bitten it clean off.

"See? It already knows I’m its mother!"

Hagrid was deeply moved when the little dragon bit his finger.

Even he stared at the dragon with tears in his eyes.

Vesey suspected those tears had more to do with the bite than with emotion.

She shook her head.

Instead of asking Hagrid when he planned to send the dragon away, she suddenly turned and looked toward the window.

She remembered...

Sure enough.

When she turned around, she saw Malfoy lying beside the window, staring intently at the little dragon on the table.

His eyes were filled with fascination.

"Malfoy!"

Vesey shouted immediately.

Everyone in the room jumped.

Then they all saw Malfoy turn and run.

"It’s over! Malfoy must have reported Hagrid! What are we going to do?"

Vesey asked in feigned panic.

Harry and the others were frightened as well.

Even Hagrid’s face went pale.

"Send it away! Quick! Send it away now!"

Hermione screamed.
