I Am Already A Queen
Chapter 155: Spread A False Story
Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Spread A False Story
"Class One?" Qiao Meixia asked, tilting her head slightly.
"Oh... That guy earlier." Shou Meiling explained gently. "He is from Class One, the top academic class, which happens to be the exact same class as Jiang Yanna."
"He probably tried to embarrass you on purpose just to suck up to Jiang Yanna." Han Mengyu added, rolling her eyes.
"Oh..." Qiao Meixia replied neutrally.
Her three friends exchanged knowing glances with one another.
Qiao Meixia truly could not care less about the petty drama that had just unfolded.
"By the way, that pop quiz earlier was an absolute nightmare." Ruan Jiaojiao complained, letting out a dramatic sigh.
"Watch your language." Shou Meiling reminded her with a light chuckle.
"Yes, yes, my lady, I will be proper." Ruan Jiaojiao teased back.
"Well, to be fair, the test really was exceptionally difficult. I honestly have no idea if any of my answers were even remotely correct." Han Mengyu admitted, slumping in her seat.
"How about you, Meixia? How did you do?" Shou Meiling asked curiously.
"Only answered two questions." Qiao Meixia stated plainly.
"Ah, don’t worry about it! We are all in the exact same boat!" Ruan Jiaojiao laughed cheerfully.
"By the way, you were completely passed out earlier. What were you even doing last night?" Shou Meiling asked, her eyes filled with genuine concern.
"Not enough sleep." Qiao Meixia answered simply.
"Oh... It must be that time of the month, right?" Ruan Jiaojiao chimed in sympathetically.
She naturally assumed Qiao Meixia had suffered from insomnia due to severe menstrual cramps, mostly because she frequently endured the exact same painful ordeal herself. Whenever her own period arrived, the agony kept her tossing and turning all night without a wink of sleep.
Qiao Meixia chose not to correct Ruan Jiaojiao’s mistaken assumption. It was far better to leave it at that.
There was absolutely no way on earth she could explain to them that her insomnia was actually caused by endless, frustrating dreams of being pinned down under a table by a mysterious, masked stranger.
She quietly picked up her chopsticks and resumed eating her meal.
Her friends seamlessly shifted the conversation to other casual topics, chatting lively amongst themselves.
Qiao Meixia quietly enjoyed her food, listening to their banter and only speaking up whenever they directed a question specifically at her.
Once they finished their meals, the four of them strolled leisurely back toward their classroom building.
Qiao Meixia walked comfortably in the middle of her three companions, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere as she listened to them talk.
To her, this brief afternoon lunch break had passed without anything particularly notable or interesting occurring.
What she did not realise, however, was that the embarrassed student from Class One had already begun bitterly spouting a twisted version of the cafeteria incident to anyone who would listen.
Because his classmates had not accompanied him to that specific dining hall, the student maliciously spun the narrative, telling everyone that Qiao Meixia had violently kicked his leg and stubbornly refused to offer an apology. To make matters worse, he claimed she had actively rallied the surrounding crowd to mock and laugh at him and his friends.
His companions, who had actually been present, wanted to step in and correct his distorted version of events. However, he fixed them with a fierce glare and barked at them to keep their mouths shut. Since his family possessed significantly more wealth and influence than theirs, they lacked the courage to defy him. In the end, they could only remain silent, watching helplessly as he twisted the facts to suit his narrative.
When Jiang Yanna caught wind of the story, her face registered shock, but deep down, she was practically giddy with excitement. Without having to lift a single finger, Qiao Meixia had managed to turn herself into a public enemy at school.
Snapping into action, Jiang Yanna immediately approached the student, Gu Xian, putting on her sweetest, most empathetic expression as she offered an apology on Qiao Meixia’s behalf.
"Student Gu, I am so deeply sorry on behalf of my sister." Jiang Yanna said softly, her voice dripping with artificial regret. "Well, she has always been... a little different, ever since she returned. But I promise you that I will personally bring her to see you and make sure she apologises to your face."
Gu Xian certainly had not expected Jiang Yanna to approach him over the matter, let alone offer to bring Qiao Meixia directly to him.
If Qiao Meixia actually came over to confront him, his elaborate lie would be blown wide open. Terrified of bringing disaster upon himself, he panicked, rejected Jiang Yanna’s offer on the spot, and insisted that he had no desire to escalate the situation any further.
"Ah, it’s really fine! You don’t need to apologise for her, and there is definitely no need to bring her here." Gu Xian stammered out quickly. "I have already moved past it."
"No, no, that would not do." Jiang Yanna pressed gently, shaking her head. "Whoever commits a wrong must be held accountable and apologise properly."
"Well... about that..." Gu Xian’s expression contorted into a look of sheer agony.
He had not anticipated that Jiang Yanna would be so absurdly persistent about this nonsensical apology. He had already given her a way out by claiming he did not want to pursue the matter, yet she kept insisting on dragging Qiao Meixia straight to him! If she actually followed through, he would end up publicly humiliated.
"Student Gu, please don’t worry. I will make sure justice is served." Jiang Yanna reassured him, taking his anxiousness for modesty.
"Student Jiang, really, you should not force her into anything." Gu Xian pleaded desperately, sweat practically forming on his forehead. "If she genuinely feels guilty, she will come apologise on her own initiative. If she does not, then so be it! I truly don’t mind at all, so please, there is zero need to force her!"
Jiang Yanna opened her mouth to argue further, but the subject teacher stepped into the classroom at that exact moment. With authority present, she had no choice but to drop the topic, bringing their conversation to an abrupt halt.
...
The final bell finally rang, signalling the end of the school day.
Packing up her desk, Ruan Jiaojiao called out to Qiao Meixia.
"Meixia..." Ruan Jiaojiao paused, leaning over with a bright smile. "Are you heading straight home now?"
"Hmm." Qiao Meixia responded quietly.
"The three of us are heading over to Not Today, Salad Can Die. Do you want to come along?" Ruan Jiaojiao asked invitingly.
"Yes." Qiao Meixia answered almost instantly, without a single second of hesitation.
Her response came out so fast and eager that the other three girls could not help but burst into a fit of laughter.
"Well, you really can’t blame Meixia." Han Mengyu wheezed through her giggles. "Her love for sweets is absolute."
"Alright then, let’s head out right now!" Ruan Jiaojiao declared cheerfully.
The four of them walked out of the school building together, heading in the direction of the popular Not Today, Salad Can Die dessert shop. They chatted animatedly as they walked, enjoying the relaxing afternoon breeze after a long, exhausting day of classes.
However, before they could even make it past the school gates, their path was abruptly blocked by Jiang Yanna and her tight-knit circle of followers.
"Sister Meixia!" Jiang Yanna called out in her signature, cloyingly sweet tone.
The moment that sugary voice reached her ears, Ruan Jiaojiao immediately clicked her tongue in sheer irritation. She could already guess that Jiang Yanna was here to stir up trouble, and she highly doubted a single positive thing would come out of her mouth.
"Sister Meixia, you really need to go and apologise to Student Gu right now." Jiang Yanna stated, adopting a stern, maternal posture.
"Huh?" Qiao Meixia tilted her head slightly, her gaze cold and unbothered.
"Sister Meixia, you cannot keep acting like this. You did something horribly wrong to him, so the right thing to do is offer a sincere apology." Jiang Yanna lectured, looking at Qiao Meixia with a disappointed, scolding expression.
"First of all, who on earth is this ’Student Gu’?" Ruan Jiaojiao interrupted, stepping forward with a heavy frown. "And secondly, what exactly did Meixia supposedly do to him?"
"Sister Meixia, don’t tell me you have already forgotten what you did to Student Gu in the cafeteria during lunch today?" Jiang Yanna explained defensively. "You kicked his leg!"
"What?! What absolute nonsense are you talking about?" Han Mengyu gasped in utter shock.
"Wait a minute... Is that cowardly bastard actually out here twisting the facts?!" Ruan Jiaojiao shouted in outrage.
