Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Pet Owner: King Boramo the Cruel

Victor did not know any of the babarian people praising him. But this feeling... it was an incredible one. A feeling that he had never gotten before.

Of course, in his old world, he had garnered attention when the parent company for Dungeon Conquest climbed to the top.

But even when the camera’s flashed his way, he could always hear the snickers, and mocking laughter underneath.

"Look at him. Like a walking bowl of tofu."

"Such a fat thing won’t even fit in the camera lens."

That attention felt tainted, and even made him feel worse than ever.

But this one. It was different. He actually felt the praises come from the hearts of the babarians. And a sweet fondness he had never felt before enveloped him.

Maybe that was why he had forgotten himself. If not, he would have immediately stopped Popo from issuing that challenge.

It was not until he heard it, that his mind snapped back to reality.

"No! No!! No!!!" Victor hurried down from the muscular shoulders propping him up. "Don’t do it. Don’t challenge him." He pushed through the crowd until he reached the front, and tried tugging at Popo’s arm. But Popo was in his prideful moment. The son of the late king that had great blood flowing in him.

He was not going to back down.

Boramo smirked. His fiery red eyes stirred down from the podium. "Son of Zaza, heir of the Southern Babarian Bloodline, I Boramo, first of my bloodline... accept your challenge."

Boramo’s words were very provocative. Especially because he had calmed himself ’first of his name’.

This showed that he had no regard for the ancestors that came before him.

This was an insult that made the people murmur. Regardless, he had still accepted the challenge.

The Babarians roared. Many beat their chests and others their heavy weapons together.

This was a proud moment for them. After all, this was their warrior way.

However, when Kiki turned about, she noticed that Victor had a dreadful look on his face.

She placed a heavy hand on his shoulder, "Milkshake22, are you that worried about your brother. Don’t worry..." she chuckled, "I was not betrothed to a weak—"

Victor pushed her hand off his shoulder—pushing his way through the crowd.

This shocked her. ’What is wrong with...?’

Before her observant eyes, Victor hurried back to the mouth of the fallen Basalt Dragonic Lizard.

He fell once as he did, but still pushed himself up, hurrying to reach the jaws he had barely escaped from only moments ago.

She only raised a brow at this, wondering if Victor needed to use the toilet that bad. Considering the circumstances, taking a dump in the mouth of the fallen beast was not a bad idea.

It was away from the eyes of the people and he could still see and bask in the glory his big brother enjoyed.

But then she heard it.

No, the entire arena heard it.

Boramo’s hearty laughter. "Of course, I’ll have to accept it if you are able to see that day—" his eyes raised to the crowd. "If any of the Southern Bloodline shall see that day."

He waved a hand forward.

At first nothing happened. Just the puzzled look on the faces of the babarians in the arena, trying to comprehend his words.

Whispers went out.

As the heir of the former king Zaza, Popo stepped forward, expecting clarification.

But then the answer came.

High up in the sky. A dark cloudy silhouette. It was so high, but yet huge enough that it blanketed the land. Like it was about to rain.

Meanwhile, Victor tried to dig deeper into the throat of the dead beast. It stank. It was disgusting, and he had barely managed to make it out with his life.

But now he was rushing in like his life depended on it.

But it did.

Shit! Shit!! Shit!!! I had the opportunity, but forgot to stop it. Even in the game, ensuring Popo did not issue the challenge was something I only discovered after hundreds of tries.

Stopping Popo from issuing the challenge wouldn’t have been easy, but if I had done that, at least the rest of the game would be a breeze.

After all, it would trigger that—

[Red Alert: Special Storyline activated. REVENGE OF THE SOUTHERN BLOODLINE]

"Oh fuck. It actually activated."

Meanwhile, a lot was happening outside.

The Babarians stood frozen looking towards the sky.

Some pointed, some whispered. But all were curious.

The silhouette did not fly so much as breathe, expanding and contracting against the sky like a lung made of shadow.

Then the light it obstructed finally revealed it.

This was not one creature, but thousands.

It was a single, writhing mass of segmented bodies, some no larger than a man’s forearm, some larger than a man, locked wing to wing, claw to claw, until the swarm wore the shape of something both old... but ONE.

From below, it looked like one impossible beast. But up close, it was not. And Victor knew it. He knew that it was a colony wearing a body like a coat.

Chitinous wings, translucent and veined black, beat in a rhythm too perfectly synchronized to be natural.

Sssss. Sssss.

The sound of ten thousand wings sawing against one another.

And beneath that came the clicking.

Xxxxx. Xxxxx.

Mandibles, thousands of them, they were testing the air in restless anticipation.

Its "eyes" were not eyes at all, but clustered nodes of dull red light scattered across the swarm’s surface, blinking in and out like dying stars. And each one belonged to a different body, and yet somehow, they all looked in the same direction

At the swarm’s core, the audience could see something larger. A queen, maybe. Or a king. But looked like the thing every other body in the sky obeyed without question.

[Encroaching Darkness — Swarm-Class]

[Name: Vashkorath

Title: The Thousandfold Maw

Pet Owner: King Boramo the Cruel]

First came the amazement of what they were seeing. But then Kiki’s instincts kicked in.

"RUN!!!"
