Chapter 424: Chapter 270: Blockade?

The family waiting area.

Tao Yuege’s mother finally saw Jiang He.

She’d been waiting on pins and needles.

From the moment her daughter was wheeled into the operating room, she had been anxiously waiting for him to appear.

But now that she actually saw him, she was filled with dread.

Apprehensive.

She didn’t even dare take a step closer.

Her chest rose and fell dramatically.

She gulped in one deep breath after another.

Her racing heart just wouldn’t calm down...

Jiang He had just finished playing a personal victory theme in his head. He walked over and said softly, "The surgery went smoothly."

There it was—

The four magic words!

And don’t ever say those four words are just a cliché. In a moment like this, they’re the best words in the world!

The mother’s strength instantly drained away. She staggered and almost fell.

Jiang He stepped forward to steady her. "The tumor has been completely removed," he continued. "Most importantly, we successfully preserved her spleen and the surrounding major blood vessels. There was minimal blood loss during the procedure, so it went exceptionally well. The next few days are a critical recovery period, and we’ll be monitoring her closely to prevent any pancreatic fistula. If there’s no significant leakage in the first three days, we can try removing the drainage tube. She’ll need to have no food or water by mouth for a while, relying on intravenous nutrition. Once her bowel function returns and she passes gas, we’ll gradually transition her to a liquid diet."

The mother couldn’t understand a word of it.

But every single word was music to her ears.

She took two more deep breaths before speaking. "Doctor... I really... I don’t know how to thank you... So my daughter... she’s really safe now, right?"

Jiang He replied, "Yes. Very safe."

The mother clutched her chest, the words coming out with difficulty. "So... so we made the right choice. A minimally invasive surgery like this, without a large open incision... it will have less of an impact on her life down the road, right?"

"That’s right. The trauma is minimal. Once she’s through recovery, she’ll even be able to stand on a stage again."

After hearing that answer,

The mother completely broke down.

She sank to the floor, gasping for breath.

Slowly...

Sobs began to rise.

Sobs of relief.

Jiang He gestured to Chen Jing. "Sister Jing, the family member is a little overwhelmed. Could you help calm her down?"

"Got it. Leave her to me." Chen Jing hurried over, squatting down to support Tao Yuege’s mother.

Jiang He went to change out of his scrubs, then headed for the vice dean’s office.

The moment he pushed open the office door.

CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!

Fervent applause erupted.

Vice Dean Zhang Sui, Yang Xu, and several Deputy Chief Physicians from General Surgery were all there.

"Beautifully done, Jiang He!"

"That minimally invasive spleen-preserving procedure was incredible!"

"Damn right. Powerful stuff."

"To think you could pull that off with only a laparoscope, given the limited visibility... Your outside-the-box thinking is a real eye-opener."

"It’s an absolute godsend for that young patient. Preserving her organ function... it makes a world of difference."

"According to current guidelines, a rupture with that much bleeding would almost always be converted to an open procedure."

"Three words: rewrite the guidelines."

Everyone in the room was a seasoned, veteran surgeon.

They showered him with the most direct, unfiltered, hardcore, no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point, and incisive praise imaginable!

Jiang He smiled. "You’re all too kind. I just got lucky; the patient’s vascular anatomy happened to be favorable."

Yang Xu stepped forward, grinning. "So humble all the time. Who’d you learn that from?"

Jiang He replied, "From you, of course."

Yang Xu said, "Wrong."

Jiang He shot back, "You’re right."

Yang Xu laughed. "Haha! Oh, right. Director Wang Zhengchu from City First Hospital was here just now. He watched the entire procedure from the observation room. It’s a shame, he just left."

Jiang He paused, surprised. "Director Wang Zhengchu? What was he doing here?"

"Came to see you, what else? He didn’t believe you could pull off this surgery laparoscopically, so he insisted on watching. I guess watching it rattled him a bit, so he bailed."

Jiang He thought for a moment. "Professor," he said, addressing Yang Xu, "could you ask him to come back? I actually have something I’d like to discuss with him."

Yang Xu grinned. "No problem! Leave it to me, I’ll go head him off! Heh heh, this is my favorite kind of mischief."

After he left, Vice Dean Zhang Sui turned to Jiang He, his gaze intense. "Jiang He, back in the OR, the hematoma was so thick. How in the world did you spot that variant blood vessel ahead of time, and even have your first assistant get the clips ready?"

This was the very question on everyone’s mind.

The room immediately fell silent as everyone pricked up their ears.

When Jiang He had decided on that maneuver, his thought process might have seemed like: ’I’m doing it because I can. So what?’

But that wasn’t actually the case.

He didn’t need to provide a detailed thought process fit for a medical journal.

But he still had to offer some sort of explanation.

He couldn’t very well say: ’Haha, this is just standard anatomical knowledge for surgeons twenty years from now! You guys are all just a bunch... of... little... morons!’

Jiang He began to explain.

"It’s actually a small discovery I made."

"While doing research on the pancreas, I read through a large number of foreign basic anatomy textbooks, including some obscure journal articles. I discovered that even when a hematoma obscures the view, the tumor’s expansion alters the tensile stress on the surrounding tissues. Simply put, it’s vascular localization based on fascial tension."

Spotting a nearby whiteboard, Jiang He walked right over and began to hold an impromptu class.

He scribbled and drew on the whiteboard, then explained:

"Look, everyone. The stress pattern on the superficial omental fat will deform. All I had to do was follow the direction of this deformation and extrapolate backward. From that, I could roughly calculate the position where the variant blood vessel underneath had been displaced. Make sense?"

"HSSSSS..."

The sound of a collective, sharp intake of breath filled the room.

If they kept sucking in air like that, they could probably solve global warming.

They kept gasping.

Did the temperature in the room actually drop a little?
