I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan
Chapter 425: Blockade?
The veterans grasped the theory instantly, and it was precisely because they understood that their scalps tingled with awe.
‘Deducing the path of the blood vessels buried underneath by observing the stress patterns on the surface fat?’
They’d never have thought of it, but now that he’d said it, the implications were staggering.
It was a sudden epiphany.
‘Damn it, why didn’t I think of that?’
Zhang Sui couldn’t help but exclaim, “Jiang He, this new idea of yours… If we can really codify it and create a standardized system of judgment… it could even change the current SOP for minimally invasive pancreatic surgery!”
SOPs. Zhang Sui was still hung up on SOPs.
You could tell he was a true believer.
Before Jiang He could answer, he added excitedly, “Jiang He, do you have time to write this up yourself? If not, the hospital can assign a dedicated team to help you summarize it! They can run the data and do the literature review for you!”
The several deputy directors present also grew excited.
They hadn’t expected to get a piece of the action just by showing up to see what the commotion was about!
Summarizing a new anatomical concept of this magnitude had to start immediately. Once published, it would be an absolute bombshell in the field of general surgery.
If they could snag a second or third author credit on this project, their year-end performance reviews and awards would be a sure thing.
‘I want a steady happiness~ one that can withstand the cruel apocalypse~’
Jiang He nodded readily. “Sure, no problem. The KRAS targeted therapy project just started recently, so I really don’t have the time to write an anatomy paper. If the hospital is willing to provide people to help summarize it, that would be for the best.”
Of course he was willing.
Essentially, even if Zhang Sui arranged for people to do the write-up, when the results were published, the first author credit would definitely still be his.
They would be providing the manpower and resources, but in reality, they would just be working for him.
He’d take the lion’s share of the credit, the people helping would get a taste, and everyone would be happy.
Thinking of this, Jiang He suddenly had a strange feeling.
‘It seems that without me even realizing it, quite a few of the nation’s top experts are now working for me.’
‘Professor Wang’s step-up treatment protocol is about to be published.’
‘The research on the gut microbiome and hepatic encephalopathy being advanced by Wen Xuyang and his team is also about to be published.’
‘All of these achievements will bear either my name or Zhiyu’s.’
‘He suddenly realized that the number of his publications and his academic influence were skyrocketing.’
In the medical community, the quantity and quality of one’s papers determined one’s influence.
With these heavyweight publications to his name…
…future applications for National Natural Science Foundation grants, elections for committee positions in the Chinese Medical Association, and even being fast-tracked for a Changjiang Scholar award would all become much easier.
More importantly, these were the hard currency needed to lead future revisions of national and even global clinical guidelines.
Just as he was lost in thought, the office door was pushed open.
Yang Xu was back.
Following him was Wang Zhengchu, his expression extremely solemn.
On the way over, Wang Zhengchu had already figured out a solution.
You had to hand it to him, he’d always been a clever guy. He said with a serious face:
“Jiang He, that surgery just now was masterfully done.”
“Everyone, I believe that the skilled should be the teacher, and this is especially true in medicine. Based on that minimally invasive technique for separating the splenic vein alone, we should all call Jiang He our teacher. I’ll take the lead and set an example. Teacher Jiang!”
Luo Chongshan kept his head down, not saying a word.
Wang Zhengchu shot Luo Chongshan a glance.
Luo Chongshan quickly buried his head even lower. ‘What are you looking at me for! I didn’t say anything!’
Wang Zhengchu was struggling internally as well.
‘Just bluffing my way through this won’t work. Damn it, a promise is a promise.’
‘I made that bold promise right in front of Luo Chongshan.’
Compared to losing face in front of these colleagues, he was more concerned about being seen as someone who didn’t keep his word by his own subordinate.
‘If word gets back to City First Hospital, how am I supposed to command any respect?’
‘Suddenly, he deeply regretted bringing Dr. Luo along. Damn it, why did I have to bring him?!’
And so, when no one was expecting it…
Wang Zhengchu suddenly snapped to attention, faced Jiang He, and executed a sharp, ninety-degree bow. He declared:
“Yes, my fucking Teacher Jiang!”
Everyone in the room: “?”
‘Director Wang… what the hell kind of abstract performance art is this?’
Wang Zhengchu straightened up and explained to the crowd without batting an eye, “A clinical achievement like Jiang He’s deserves this level of respect from all of us. Don’t you agree?”
The crowd exchanged bewildered glances. Something felt off, but Wang Zhengchu’s words were delivered with such righteous conviction.
“Oh… right! Director Wang is right!”
“Yeah, the skilled should be the teacher!”
Someone started it, and then several of the younger attending physicians, as if struck by a sudden realization, also began to bow.
“Yes, my fucking Teacher Jiang!”
Jiang He was completely dumbfounded.
‘Why are they suddenly spouting broken English?’
‘This is so awkward… It’s that special kind of cringe you feel when a forty-year-old man tries way too hard to use youth slang…’
He caught sight of Yang Xu out of the corner of his eye, seemingly about to bend over and join in. Alarmed, Jiang He quickly steadied him. “Teacher, please don’t.”
After getting the situation under control,
Jiang He looked at Wang Zhengchu with a wry smile. “Director Wang, please stop calling me that. It’s making me uncomfortable. I had you called back because there’s serious business to discuss.”
Wang Zhengchu, looking as cool as a cucumber, said nonchalantly, “Go on. What did you want to talk to me about?”
“It’s about this: I wanted to ask about the progress on the standardized, specialized pancreatic serum sample bank we’re jointly establishing. How are things going over at City First Hospital?”
Wang Zhengchu answered seriously, “Progress is excellent. The infrastructure for the sample bank is complete, and we’ve already begun comprehensive sample collection. Also, the trial run of your SAP early prediction model is going very well at our hospital.”
“Recently, the model has successfully flagged three patients who were at risk of developing severe cases. We intervened early, and the results have been outstanding. I’ve now assigned an attending physician to follow up and record the data. I plan to compile it all into a large-scale validation retrospective study.”
