I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate
Chapter 789: Rescue
During the more than a month of travel, Su Ze had considered more than once what he should do after arriving on Blue Star.
Charge in and face them head-on?
He knew there were at least three Nian Race Sun Gods on Blue Star. If he initiated a battle between Sun Gods, he would very likely destroy the planet.
After all, Blue Star couldn’t withstand the destructive power of several Sun Gods. Once the fighting started, he would have to hold back, unable to unleash his full strength.
Therefore, he planned to infiltrate stealthily first, get the lay of the land, and then decide on a course of action.
If the Magic Cube was discovered during its descent, he would just pretend to flee, lure the Nian Race Sun Gods into pursuit, and draw the battlefield into outer space.
If he wasn’t discovered, he would get a clear picture of the situation and then plan his next move carefully.
He didn’t choose to land in one of Blue Star’s three major settlements. A Sun God was certain to be stationed there, and landing would be like dropping right on their doorstep—he’d definitely be discovered.
He landed in the Myriad Beast Mountain Range, which was relatively close to the Lin Hua Continent, because he had heard from Li Fayi that Chen Suifeng was hiding there.
After stowing his ship, Su Ze scanned his surroundings. He hesitated for a moment before deciding against using his Perception Tentacles to investigate the Lin Hua Continent.
Su Ze’s Spiritual Power could now easily cover the entire Blue Star, but probing with it would most likely be detected by the other Nian Race Sun Gods. After all, while his Spiritual Power was immense, it hadn’t reached the level of an Ancestral God.
Probing with Perception Tentacles was stealthier than using Spiritual Power, but there was still a chance of being discovered.
Su Ze’s biggest worry on this trip wasn’t the three Nian Race Sun Gods themselves. It was that upon discovering him, they would immediately call for reinforcements from the Nian Race’s Mother Star. If an Ancestral God showed up, he’d be in real trouble.
Therefore, he chose to act with caution.
…
Deep within a hidden cave in the Myriad Beast Mountain Range, a passage behind a stone wall opened up into a whole new world. It was the very first Inheritance Space Su Ze had ever found.
Chen Suifeng, who had always been refined, presentable, and fond of life’s pleasures, was now a mess. His hair was disheveled, his eyes were bloodshot, and he looked utterly haggard, as if he had aged decades in the few years since Su Ze’s departure.
He had been hiding here for over two years, ever since the Nian Race’s resurgence.
During this time, he had gone out to investigate the situation several times, but on a few occasions, he had nearly run into Nian Race search parties in the wilderness.
After multiple excursions that yielded no useful information and only brought more danger, he rarely went out anymore.
He only hunted or foraged for wild vegetables nearby on occasion.
At his evolutionary level, he didn’t actually need to eat, but it was the only thing that made him feel like his life still had some small meaning.
Just then, Chen Suifeng suddenly heard footsteps coming from the entrance to the Inheritance Space.
“Who’s there!”
Like a startled bird, he shot to his feet. His eyes were fixed on the entrance, his body slightly crouched, ready for a fight.
“Mr. Feng, it’s me.”
Su Ze strode in with a smile on his face and immediately pulled Chen Suifeng into a bear hug.
Chen Suifeng was stunned for a long moment before he was sure he wasn’t hallucinating. A look of joy flashed across his face, but it was quickly replaced by a stern expression.
“What are you doing back here! Don’t you know how dangerous Blue Star is now? If anything happened to you, we’d… we’d lose all hope.”
As he spoke, he pulled Su Ze over to the Teleportation Array, gesturing for him to leave at once.
Su Ze patted the hand Chen Suifeng had clamped on him and smiled. “Mr. Feng, I came back to liberate Blue Star and free all of you from the Nian Race’s control. This time, I’m taking you all with me to Zexing!”
Chen Suifeng frowned, about to say something, but then he remembered that Su Ze wasn’t one to act recklessly or joke about such matters. He asked with a hint of expectation:
“What’s your power level now?”
“Sun God!”
Chen Suifeng swallowed hard. “You’re not kidding?”
Although he was only at the Legend-rank and didn’t fully grasp the difficulty of evolving beyond the God-rank, it had taken him decades just to evolve from an ordinary person to a Legend. He was certain that evolving from a Legend to a Sun God would be hundreds, if not thousands of times harder.
He had fantasized that one day Su Ze would return to Blue Star as a savior, but he had always assumed that would be hundreds, or even thousands, of years in the future. He had worried he wouldn’t live to see that day.
He never expected that in less than five years, Su Ze would be back—and as a Sun God-level powerhouse!
But…
Chen Suifeng said with some concern, “There are three Nian Race Sun Gods on Blue Star right now. Are you confident you can handle them?”
Su Ze gave a relaxed smile, looked at Chen Suifeng, and said, “Mere Nian Race Sun Gods? Killing them will be as easy as slaughtering dogs.”
Su Ze wouldn’t dare claim to be invincible among Sun Gods, but at the very least, the Nian Race Sun Gods weren’t even worthy of his consideration.
The Nian Race was nominally a second-rate race, but in reality, their power was only at a third- or fourth-rate level.
Hearing Su Ze’s words, Chen Suifeng could finally relax. The next moment, he was so moved that tears welled up in his eyes.
The Blue Star Human Race was finally saved!
The great weight on his heart could at last be lifted.
He had promised Mr. Ke that he would protect the Lin Hua Continent, but he never imagined the burden would be so much heavier than he expected. It had all but crushed him.
He had been trapped day after day in this cramped space, unable to do anything, yet unwilling to give up.
He could neither save the Blue Star Human Race nor bring himself to abandon everything and teleport to Zexing, so he was trapped in a painful state of internal conflict.
Thankfully, Su Ze had returned just in time to take the burden from his shoulders.
…
After Chen Suifeng’s emotions had settled, Su Ze sat down with him. The two prepared some simple food and drinks, eating and talking.
It was the first meal Chen Suifeng had truly savored in over two years.
