I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!
Chapter 387: A Whining Dog
Roxanna knew that Calen was frustrated, but the fact that he was willing to get pregnant himself as long as it meant having a child with her was honestly a little ridiculous.
Still, she didn’t say anything about it because she knew her husband was only upset, so instead of teasing him, she gently patted his back a few times to comfort him.
"I’m so sorry that I haven’t been able to give you a child yet," she said in a low voice.
They were currently walking back from the small hut to their own hut. Fortunately, there was a clean water reservoir near the farmland, so they had managed to wash themselves before leaving.
"No... don’t say things like that..." Calen whined, sounding exactly like a dog whose owner was about to leave him behind. "It’s not your fault at all. It really isn’t."
[But you look so sad...] Roxanna thought helplessly. [You’re making me feel like I’ve done something terribly wrong.]
As soon as that thought crossed her mind, Calen leaned closer and dropped his head onto her shoulder, looking as if he were about to cry right there.
"I don’t mean to make you feel that way," Calen mumbled. Another pitiful whine escaped him as he wrapped his arms around her and continued walking without letting go. "I’m sorry... It was Luan’s fault."
Roxanna couldn’t help but chuckle. She patted his back again, as if she were comforting an unhappy puppy. "It’s not anyone’s fault."
By the time they reached the part of the tribe filled with huts, quite a few people had started looking their way.
Well, not that Calen seemed to care.
He apparently had no shame left at all, because even with so many eyes on them, he still refused to let Roxanna go for even a second.
"What happened to that dog?" one of the males asked as they passed. "I swear, he’s the most dramatic husband our leader has."
Another male looked confused. "Didn’t they just mate? Why does he look so sad?"
Roxanna nearly tripped over her own feet. Her head snapped toward them in disbelief. [They knew?!]
She and Calen had tried so hard not to make too much noise earlier. Calen had even covered her mouth with his hand a few times just to keep her quiet.
And these people still knew they had been mating?!
[What the hell?!] Roxanna could feel her face heating up. [These beasts really do have super hearing!]
"Calen, I can’t walk properly if you keep clinging to me like this," Roxanna said, trying to push him away lightly. However, he clearly had no intention of putting any distance between them.
"It’s fine. We can just walk slower," he replied as if that solved everything.
Roxanna let out a soft sigh and finally stopped trying to push him away. At this point, she knew it would be easier to simply let him cling to her until they reached the hut.
A few moments later, they finally arrived.
The moment Roxanna saw their hut, her eyes widened and she immediately clapped her hands a few times in excitement. The plain wooden walls from before had completely changed. The entire hut had been painted a warm beige color, making it look brighter and much more welcoming.
"Ah, you did it!" Roxanna finally pulled herself free from Calen and hurried toward her other husbands, who were sitting on the terrace.
Calen made a small unhappy sound behind her when she escaped from his arms, but Roxanna was already too distracted to notice.
She stopped in front of the hut and looked around with a wide smile. The beige paint was not the only thing that had changed, her husbands had also decorated the place while she was gone.
Small pink flowers had been placed around the terrace, adding soft touches of color against the beige walls.
Some had been tied together and hung beside the entrance, while others were arranged in small bunches near the windows.
Roxanna even noticed several colorful stones lined neatly along the edge of the terrace. There were red ones, pale blue ones, yellow ones, and even a few shiny stones that caught the sunlight whenever she moved.
Some of the things they had collected over time had also been placed around the hut as decorations. Instead of looking messy, everything somehow made the place feel more personal.
It no longer looked like an empty hut that had simply been given to them by the tribe.
It looked like a home.
"You decorated it too?" Roxanna asked excitedly as she stepped onto the terrace. She reached out to touch one of the little bundles of pink flowers hanging near the entrance. "This is so cute!"
Her excitement immediately made the husbands sitting there look pleased with themselves.
"We thought the walls looked too empty after we finished painting them," Cyrus explained. "So we added some things."
"And the pink flowers?" Roxanna asked, already having a suspicion about why they had chosen that particular color.
Luan smiled. "We know you like pink."
Roxanna blinked a few times when her eyes suddenly met Luan’s. [Ah... this is so embarrassing. How am I supposed to tell everyone that I’m pregnant with Luan’s child now?]
The moment she thought about it, she immediately covered her mouth with both hands. [Damn it! They must already know!]
Before Roxanna could even recover from her embarrassment, Luan was already on his feet.
He quickly walked toward her, wrapped his arms around her body, and lifted her off the ground.
"Luan!" Roxanna cried out in surprise, quickly grabbing his shoulders when her feet suddenly left the ground.
Instead of listening, Luan let out a happy laugh and spun her around one more time before finally setting her back on her feet.
Even then, his arms remained firmly wrapped around her waist, as if he had suddenly decided that letting her go was impossible.
"You’re carrying my child," Luan said, and the huge smile on his face made it obvious that he was trying very hard not to shout those words for the entire tribe to hear.
