I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!
Chapter 389: Something Happened Last Night
[Congratulations, Host! Hidden Mission Complete: Make the Vixeria Tribe More Colorful!]
[Reward: 170,000 Spirit Points (SP)]
[Remaining Spirit Points (SP): 613,650]
Roxanna, who was in the middle of eating with her husbands, suddenly froze when the system notification appeared.
She had never expected to receive such a huge reward just for helping add more color to the tribe.
[What do you mean, Host?] the system quickly chimed in. [What you did is actually very useful for the tribe, so of course you deserve a reward for it!]
[Just look around! Everyone is so happy today!]
The system was actually right. When she had walked toward the hut with Calen earlier, everyone had seemed pleased with their newly decorated homes.
That kind of happiness would surely improve their quality of life, and perhaps, little by little, the Vixeria Tribe’s fertility problem could finally be solved.
[I really can’t wait for more babies to be born so Azura and my future child can have more friends!]
Just imagining several little beastmen running around the tribe made Roxanna smile to herself.
[Ah, that would be so cute.]
After dinner, Roxanna spent a little more time talking with her husbands before they finally decided to sleep. It had been a long day for everyone, especially after all the work they had done decorating the huts.
Roxanna fell asleep rather quickly. However, in the middle of the night, she suddenly woke up with an uncomfortable dryness in her throat.
Still half asleep, Roxanna slowly pushed herself up. She rubbed her eyes before reaching toward the spot beside her, expecting to feel the familiar warmth of one of her husbands.
Instead, her hand touched an empty space. Roxanna blinked several times, tilting her head. "Huh?"
She turned her head and looked around the dark hut. It took her sleepy mind several seconds to realize exactly who was missing. "Luan?"
Roxanna glanced at the others, wondering if Luan had simply moved to another spot during the night. However, no matter where she looked, she could not find him anywhere inside the hut.
"Where did he go in the middle of the night?" she murmured to herself.
Not long after, her sleepiness quickly began to fade. Roxanna carefully got up, making sure not to wake the others. After drinking some water, she walked toward the entrance and peeked outside.
The settlement was quiet because most of the beastkins were sleeping, and there was hardly any movement around her.
"Luan?" Roxanna called softly, but there was no answer. She stepped outside and looked around for a while, but there was still no sign of him.
"Did he go out to get some fresh air?" Roxanna asked herself once more.
She stayed there for a little longer, hoping that Luan would suddenly appear, but he never did. In the end, Roxanna decided to return to the hut and go back to sleep.
After all, Luan sometimes liked to go outside at night to clear his head and get some fresh air. Maybe he was simply doing the same thing tonight.
However, Luan did not return home until morning.
After all, Luan did sometimes like to go outside at night to get some fresh air. Maybe tonight, he was doing the same thing.
However, Luan did not return home until morning.
Roxanna was still asleep when she heard the soft sound of footsteps entering the hut. At first, she thought it was one of her husbands moving around, so she simply pulled the blanket closer and tried to go back to sleep.
Then she smelled a faint metallic scent, causing her eyes to immediately widen.
The first thing she saw was Luan standing in the doorway.
He had just stepped inside the hut, and judging by the morning light coming from outside, the sun had only recently risen.
Roxanna was about to ask where he had been when she noticed something on his clothes: blood.
There were several dark red stains across the front of his clothes, with even more around his hands and arms.
Roxanna immediately sat up. "Luan! What happened to you?"
Luan, who had not shown any significant expression on his face before, suddenly widened his eyes the moment he heard Roxanna’s voice.
It almost seemed as if he had been sleepwalking before this.
"What?" Luan finally spoke.
"What do you mean, what?" Roxanna quickly got out of bed and walked toward him. "There’s blood all over you!"
The commotion early in the morning eventually woke her other husbands, and they were just as shocked when they saw Luan’s clothes covered in bloodstains.
Hell, his clothes even looked like he had just washed them in a river of blood.
"Luan, for God’s sake, are you dying or something?!" Calen was the first one to break the silence between them.
Not long after, Luan finally lowered his head and looked at his own clothes with a confused expression.
"I... what happened?" Luan asked them instead of answering their questions. "I have no idea what happened."
For several seconds, no one said anything.
Roxanna stared at Luan, trying to figure out whether he was joking. Unfortunately, the confusion on his face looked completely real.
"What do you mean you have no idea?" she finally asked. "You disappeared in the middle of the night, Luan."
"I did?" he asked.
"Yes!" Roxanna exclaimed. "I woke up because I was thirsty and noticed you were gone. I even went outside to look for you."
Luan’s brows slowly pulled together. He looked toward the entrance of the hut, then down at his bloodstained clothes again. His hand moved over one of the stains as if he were only now realizing how much blood was actually covering him.
"I don’t remember leaving," Luan said.
A moment later, his expression suddenly darkened as a terrible thought crossed his mind. "What did I kill last night? Did I—"
"Let’s not jump to conclusions yet," Zeir quickly cut him off before his thoughts could go somewhere worse.
He got to his feet and gestured for Calen to do the same.
"I’ll go check what happened out there," Zeir said before turning to Calen. "You can follow the scent trail Luan left behind, right?"
This time, Calen did not brag about being the greatest tracker in the entire world like he usually would.
He simply nodded. "Yes, I can."
Zeir gave a small nod before turning toward Cyrus, who was still staring at the blood covering Luan’s clothes.
"Cyrus, make something warm for Luan," Zeir said. "He looks like he needs it."
Cyrus immediately nodded. "Alright."
"And Roxanna." Zeir looked at her next. "I’m sorry, but can you help him change his clothes and check his body too. Make sure none of this blood is actually his."
Roxanna nodded eagerly. "I will."
To be honest, even if Zeir had not told her to do that, she would have helped Luan anyway.
Zeir did not waste any more time after that. He walked out of the hut with Calen, and the two of them soon disappeared from sight.
Roxanna watched them leave before turning back toward Luan.
He was still standing in the same place. Normally, Luan would have already complained about everyone making such a big deal out of him. He might even have laughed and insisted that he was perfectly fine.
But this morning, he was unusually quiet. Perhaps because he really didn’t understand what was happening to him.
"Come here," Roxanna said gently.
Luan looked at her for a moment before finally walking over.
His movements were slower than usual, almost as if his body was exhausted even though he could not remember what he had done to make himself so tired.
Roxanna guided him to sit on the edge of the folded matress. "Take this off first," she said, reaching for his bloodstained shirt.
Luan raised his arms without arguing, allowing Roxanna to pull it over his head. The moment his upper body was exposed, Roxanna immediately began checking his skin.
There were several scratches across his arms and shoulders. Some were fresh, but none of them were deep enough to produce the amount of blood covering his clothes.
Roxanna frowned. "This one is yours," she murmured, touching a thin scratch near his shoulder. "Probably this one too."
Luan glanced at it. "Does it look bad?"
"No." Roxanna shook her head. "But most of the blood on your clothes definitely isn’t yours."
If the blood did not belong to him, then it had come from something else or someone else.
Roxanna quickly continued checking him. She moved behind him and carefully examined his back before moving down to his waist and legs.
Aside from a few scratches, some dirt, and several leaves stuck to his clothes, she could not find anything serious.
"You’re fine," she finally said. "At least, I don’t see any serious injuries."
Luan stared at his hands. The dried blood had already turned dark between his fingers and beneath his nails.
"I don’t understand," he murmured. "What the hell is happening to me?"
