I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 223: He Actually Cheated?
Chapter 223: Chapter 223: He Actually Cheated?
Having a brother like him truly warmed Evelyn Grant’s heart.
Regardless of what the future held for Alex Grant, or whether he could really earn enough to support her as he promised, she felt completely content.
After all, boys his age were usually just focused on having fun, curious about everything new and novel.
Yet he dedicated himself to his studies. Instead of running off to play in his free time, he stayed home to take care of their mother.
Evelyn Grant was certain her brother would have a bright future.
"Alex has been so worried about you! Sigh, I haven’t even told you... last time you and Julian Sterling came home, things ended so unpleasantly, remember? When your brother found out, he was on pins and needles. He kept wanting to call and ask you what was going on! I had to stop him several times before he finally gave it up."
It wasn’t that Chloe Shea wasn’t worried about her daughter; she just felt it was better to let the younger generation resolve their own issues.
Especially problems between a husband and wife.
Outsiders meddling can sometimes make things worse.
She never imagined at the time that her daughter and son-in-law’s relationship had already deteriorated to the point of divorce!
"Yeah, Alex asked me about it a few times afterward, worried that I was being bullied."
"Eve, since we’re on the topic, let me just be nosy and ask you one thing. Your divorce from Julian Sterling... what was the real reason?"
Chloe Shea hadn’t dared to ask before, seeing the state her daughter was in.
She was afraid of bringing up a painful subject.
But now that some time has passed, ’surely she can talk to me about this, right?’
"We... just weren’t compatible."
Evelyn Grant didn’t know what to say, nor could she bring herself to tell her mother the whole truth.
’It would absolutely make her angry enough to have a heart attack!’
"Eve, I’ve been around the block, don’t you think I know about all the little trivialities of marriage? ’Incompatibility’ is just an excuse. Just tell me the real reason! Otherwise, I’ll never stop worrying about it."
"..."
"Did Julian Sterling have someone on the side?" The reasons that led to divorce usually fell into just a few main categories.
Otherwise, minor squabbles wouldn’t lead to this point.
Evelyn Grant’s throat felt a little dry. She pursed her lips. "Something like that."
’Jane Jacobs’s appearance should count as Julian having found someone else, right?’
"He actually cheated?!"
"Mom, our situation is a bit complicated. He was with that other girl before Julian and I were married. Later... Julian’s mother refused to let her join the family, so they broke up. Then, Julian listened to his parents and married me."
Evelyn Grant said this because she didn’t want her mother’s imagination to run wild.
Otherwise, knowing her personality, she likely wouldn’t be able to sleep soundly without getting a clear answer.
"But you didn’t know about any of that, so what right did his family have to drag you into it!" Chloe Shea was instantly indignant on her daughter’s behalf.
Evelyn Grant quickly said, "But you promised you wouldn’t get angry! That’s the only reason I told you!"
"..."
"Besides, it’s all in the past now. I’ve already let it go, so you should just pretend you don’t know! What’s most important is that our family is happy together. Why keep dwelling on these unpleasant things?"
Chloe Shea sighed on the other end of the line. "It’s just that my heart aches for you. Sigh! My only daughter was taken advantage of, and not only could I do nothing about it, I even helped him lie to you! I’m really getting more muddled in my old age!"
