I Came to Divorce Him—His Whole Regiment Adopted Me
Chapter 192: A Letter
Chapter 192: Chapter 192: A Letter
"If it weren’t for this business with Zhao Yuan, I would’ve taught you a lesson long ago."
Zhang Yun didn’t doubt Su Wan’s words, as there was indeed a precedent.
She scratched her head and confessed, "Miss Xu took me there."
"Miss Xu? Xu Rongrong?" Su Wan asked.
"Yes. Sister-in-law, do you know her?"
"Heh, of course I do. We don’t get along," Su Wan sneered.
"Miss Xu has a grudge against you too, Sister-in-law?" Zhang Yun scratched her head. "What a coincidence."
Su Wan couldn’t be bothered with Zhang Yun’s slow reaction.
She briefly explained her conflict with Xu Rongrong.
"Miss Xu has so much going for her, yet she’s still trying to steal my cousin from you. Sister-in-law, can you win against her? My cousin wouldn’t do anything to betray you, would he?"
Su Wan was left speechless.
"If he’s yours, he can’t be stolen. If he’s not, he’ll leave on his own without anyone needing to steal him," Su Wan replied, then buried her head in her food.
Zhang Yun was silent. ’I’m not nearly as magnanimous as my sister-in-law. The thought of someone stealing Zhao Yuan away makes me miserable.’
With that thought, Zhang Yun looked at Su Wan with pity.
"Sister-in-law, your situation is so tragic. For Miss Xu to try and steal a married man... her character is just terrible."
"I won’t hang out with her anymore. If she looks for me again, I’ll secretly tell you."
Though Su Wan’s situation wasn’t tragic at all and she didn’t need any pity, her goal had been achieved, so she didn’t mind these minor details.
"Take me to see Mr. Lu," Su Wan said, getting to the point.
Zhang Yun grew a little nervous at her words.
"Sister-in-law, what are you going to do there?"
"To find out what their goal is."
"Actually, never mind. I won’t go. I’ll have Xiao Liu investigate. Where is that Mr. Lu staying?"
Zhang Yun was relieved to see her drop the idea. After all, it seemed like Grandpa Lu Tang and Zhou Yu didn’t want to see her sister-in-law at all.
If her sister-in-law went to see them because of her...
...what if she was put in an awkward position and looked down upon?
"Yes, yes, yes, just have Xiao Liu investigate. Sister-in-law, don’t go there and get slighted."
’Slighted?’
Su Wan pressed, "What do you mean, slighted?"
Zhang Yun gave an awkward laugh, but she knew she couldn’t hide it from Su Wan. She nervously fidgeted with her fingers. "Well... I mentioned you, Sister-in-law, but... Grandpa Lu Tang and Zhou Yu don’t want to see you."
"I don’t know why, but I get the feeling they treat you like an outsider."
’Treated like an outsider?’
’That would only be possible if this so-called Mr. Lu is actually a relative of Lu Zhengchuan’s.’
’And not some enemy plotting against him.’
"Okay, I understand."
"Sister-in-law, what about my job...?"
"Take a leave of absence for now. I’ll get back to you within two days," Su Wan promised.
Zhang Yun felt reassured. She was about to say something more when Zhao Yuan returned, carrying two bowls of noodles—one with fried sauce and one with gravy.
"Xiao Yun, which flavor do you want? You pick first, and I’ll eat the one you don’t want." Every word out of Zhao Yuan’s mouth was meant to flatter Zhang Yun.
In no time, Zhang Yun was cooed into a wide grin.
Su Wan didn’t say anything.
Zhao Yuan, however, kept glancing at her from the corner of his eye.
Zhao Yuan thought his glances were subtle, but Su Wan had learned counter-surveillance from Lu Zhengchuan. While she wasn’t exceptional, she was more than a match for an ordinary person.
She just pretended not to notice and certainly wouldn’t be the one to satisfy his curiosity.
Once the meal was over, Zhang Yun left with Zhao Yuan.
Zhao Yuan was a little curious. "Xiao Yun, why did your sister-in-law want to see you?"
"Oh, nothing much. She just asked about my job." Zhang Yun didn’t dare mention the money from Zhao Xiangxiang, but she couldn’t hide the other things.
It wasn’t in her nature to keep secrets anyway.
"You told her about the job?" Zhao Yuan was so shocked that his voice rose, startling Zhang Yun, who subconsciously rubbed her ear.
"What’s wrong?" Zhang Yun asked, confused. "Ah Yuan, why are you so shocked?"
"...I’m just worried. Worried she’ll take your job back. After all, Mr. Lu only gave you the job out of respect for your cousin. If she gets angry that you haven’t been listening to her lately and goes to whisper in your cousin’s ear, he might step in and really make you lose your job."
"My cousin is missing, so how could she whisper in his ear?" Zhang Yun said, displeased.
"If my cousin can really come back, what do I care if I don’t have a job?"
Zhao Yuan’s expression nearly cracked. He wished he could crack open Zhang Yun’s head to see what on earth she was thinking.
"Besides, my sister-in-law heard about it and was just worried someone might use my cousin’s name for bribery or something."
Hearing the word "bribery," Zhao Yuan’s eyes lit up, strengthening his resolve to marry Zhang Yun.
"Okay, okay, okay, I was wrong. Come on, let’s go home. It’s getting late and it’s not safe."
After dinner, Su Wan reported the results to Mother Su.
Things hadn’t gone exactly as planned, but the issue was more or less resolved.
"Dad, Mom, I’m heading back now. You two come home early too once you’re done."
"Alright."
Su Wan rode her bicycle home. She had hurried back because she wanted to wait for Lu Zhengchuan.
However, on her way home, she passed a newsstand and first made a call to Xiao Liu, asking him to investigate Mr. Lu and Zhou Yu.
Since she had the name of the sanatorium, finding the two of them would be simple.
After telling Xiao Liu to let her know the moment he had any news, Su Wan hung up.
When she got home, Second Sister-in-law Su had already gone to bed with Nuannuan.
"Aunt Zhao, you should get some rest. I can stay and watch the two children."
"Wanwan, you didn’t rest well last night. You should be the one going to bed early," Aunt Zhao said with concern.
"It’s fine. I can’t sleep if the children are awake anyway," Su Wan said, shaking her head. She wanted to wait for Lu Zhengchuan, but she couldn’t say that, so looking after the children was a convenient excuse.
Sure enough, seeing her insist, Aunt Zhao just assumed she missed her children and didn’t try to persuade her further. She brought over the children’s diapers and formula, and only went back to her room after filling the thermos with hot water.
Su Wan lit the kerosene lamp and played with the lively and energetic Tuantuan on the bed for a while.
Yuanyuan, still as placid as ever, just watched his brother play beside him with his big, grape-like eyes.
After half an hour of playing, Yuanyuan yawned and closed his eyes at some point.
As for Tuantuan, who could already crawl, his little butt was sticking up in the air, and he hadn’t moved for a while.
Su Wan looked over curiously and couldn’t help but let out a snort of laughter. Tuantuan had actually fallen asleep just like that, with his little hand tucked under his head. ’Did he just play until he was tired and conk out?’
"You little rascal," Su Wan couldn’t help but chuckle as she reached out to pat Tuantuan’s little bottom. She picked the little guy up and placed him in the small bed next to hers.
Because Tuantuan was a wild and active sleeper, the two children slept in separate little beds.
Yuanyuan was much more well-behaved. He would lie in his little bed and barely move at all.
The two children were asleep. It was still early, just past eight, when Su Wan heard her father and the others returning outside.
Su Wan decided to sit at the desk and read.
But as she opened the book, Su Wan discovered a letter tucked inside.
