Chapter 478: The Egg That Disappeared

Lian stayed silent, that part was obvious, with the appetite that egg had, it was clear that it would eat anything in its path.

What was not clear was the egg’s current location.

There was no shell left and no sign of it breaking, not even a trail on the ground and not even a hole that could show that something had taken it from below.

Ed only stared at the empty spot for a few seconds.

Had it escaped? The thought was so ridiculous that he raised an eyebrow for a moment.

How could an egg escape? Did it roll away? Grow legs? Or maybe it was no longer an egg?

That last thought was not as funny, that egg unfortunately had nothing in common with a normal egg, what kind of egg was even aware?

His expression became a little more serious, but before he could investigate more, Orion’s voice came.

"Anyway, whatever was here is no longer here, and I can’t feel any trace of it either."

Lian nodded again, it was also good news that this man had not been able to find the egg, and it was also clear that he currently had more important things to deal with.

He was also sure that the Federation would soon send an elite team here to search both this womb and almost the entire area, just in case Ezrak had hidden something else here.

Still, he did not like the idea of an unknown creature that belonged to him being lost in Antarctica.

"Gareth is waiting for you." The Overlord then raised his hand and moved it without saying anything else.

Before Lian could say anything, white light covered his entire vision.

One moment he was in Antarctica, and the next moment his feet were on a metal floor.

He blinked and looked around, black walls, cold lights on the ceiling, and it was not hard to know where he was, the same facility under the mountain.

And right in front of him stood Gareth, the commander was standing beside a large table with several people.

He stopped in the middle of his sentence and his eyes immediately locked onto him, and when he saw that he was safe, the pressure that had been sitting on his face for several hours disappeared in an instant.

"Damn..." He let out a deep breath and rubbed his face for a moment.

"Good. You’re alive."

"I’m glad to see you too." Vorhelm’s young man said calmly.

The commander spent a few more seconds making sure there was no immediate problem, then gave a short look behind Lian.

"Mountainbreaker found you?" Of course, it did not sound like a question, he seemed almost certain.

"Yeah."

"Then it’s over."

Lian thought for a moment about the two black prisms that were now with Orion.

"I guess, for now."

Gareth raised his eyebrows slightly, but decided not to ask for now and put his hand on one of his people’s shoulders.

"Call a healer, I want his condition checked."

"I’m not that badly hurt."

"I need to make sure you’re okay, otherwise both your uncle and your teacher Aldric won’t let me off easily."

Lian did not answer, he was not surprised that the commander knew his uncle, after all, his uncle was a very well-known person.

And about his concern regarding Teacher Aldric’s reaction, considering that he was his favorite student...or at least that was how it seemed, it was normal too.

A little later, the World Devouring Fortress had been removed from Lian’s body.

The first examination showed that his injuries were serious, but there was nothing that could not be stabilized with rest, the right potion and a few hours of time.

The armor itself was also repairing thanks to Structural Memory and it should not take too long for it to fully recover.

Gareth waited until the examination was finished, and when the doctor left, he sat in front of him.

"So, why exactly did that madman take you?"

Lian thought for a few seconds, not to make a lie but to decide how much of the truth he should tell.

In the end, he chose the simplest version.

"He had seen some kind of potential in me before, apparently he decided from the first time that he wanted to use my body as part of his next monster, he also said some things about the Calamity Seed and making a much stronger creature. That the creature he was making could become something even stronger."

He shrugged.

"Honestly, I’m not sure which parts of what he said were true and which parts were just the nonsense of a madman."

That sentence was not completely a lie, he had only left out a very large part of the truth.

Besides, he could not change everything either, first, Overlord Orion knew about the Calamity Seed and had taken that madman for interrogation, and he personally doubted that Ezrak would be able to stay silent anymore.

"You said he wanted to make another monster, the Overlord was able to capture that creature?" Gareth slowly nodded.

"Yeah."

"Good, losing it could have destroyed a lot of information. Especially if it really was artificially created, as for the white-eyed man himself, he will probably go directly under Strategic Supervision."

"So they won’t bring him back here anymore?" Lian kept his eyes on him.

"Unlikely, after what we saw today, no sane person would put him in the same kind of prison again. The man escaped from one of the safest facilities in the country and even the arrays did not understand how."

Then he added.

"Most likely, from now on he will be kept directly under the watch of the Overlords and the higher parts of the Federation."

"Does that mean I can’t see him anymore?" The young Vorhelm paused for a moment.

Gareth became silent.

One second.

Two seconds.

Then he started laughing, and the young Vorhelm looked at him without changing his expression.

"What?"

"Are you serious?"

"Yeah."

"Lian, that man kidnapped you."

Lian stayed silent, and the commander raised another eyebrow.

"He took you to the middle of nowhere and wanted to use your body to make his monster." And in the end he stared at him for a few seconds.

"Why do you want to see him again? Do you miss him?"

"I became interested in his work." Lian answered with complete seriousness.

"You have some problems too." Gareth’s laugh stopped, and he stared at him for a few seconds before saying very calmly.

"Maybe." He shrugged in response.

But the real reason was completely different, Ezrak had information, information that could be very useful to him.

That man knew about the Five Calamities, the Calamity Seeds, and the Sixth Position, and it was clearly possible that he even knew more.

And there was something that was more important to Lian than all of those.

The Anchor and Vessel of their world, with Ezrak’s information, it might be possible to identify them.

And if that madman really had information about the Calamities, worlds, and how to destroy them, he might know something that could help Lian later.

"Forget about him for now." Gareth gave the table a short tap with his hand.

Lian looked at him.

"It’s unlikely that the Federation will allow anyone to even get close to him without direct permission, but don’t worry about his work. If the knowledge of the Valkaris is really useful, sooner or later we’ll get something out of him." He gave a faint smile.

"I hope so." The young Vorhelm nodded, as if he had to let it go for now.

But his inner feeling said something else.

Dimensional prison, Overlord, Strategic Security, or whatever name they wanted to give it.

He did not feel that Ezrak’s story had ended inside that prism.

A man who had managed to cross from his own world, hide on Earth for years, and escape from one of the Federation’s safest prisons without activating a single warning would not stay inside a box forever that easily.

He did not know when, but he was sure he would see Ezrak again.

After a few more checks and changing his damaged clothes, a military vehicle took Lian out of the facility.

When he returned to the academy, the sun was still in the sky.

Students were moving around the grounds.

Two people beside the path were talking about the exam results, while another group was laughing.

Someone was talking about the organizations that had come to recruit the top students.

Life continued completely normally.

None of them knew that a few hours earlier, thousands of kilometers away, a creature had been born earlier than it should have, and the System considered the result of its completion to be "A Calamity Released into the World."

Lian also had no intention of telling anyone, he entered the dormitory building, went up the stairs and opened the door to his room.

He expected it to be empty, Kain should have already returned to the Ruined Realm by now, considering how much he wanted to go there.

But he was still there.

His best friend was sitting on a chair and checking something on a small screen, and when the door opened, he raised his head.

"Where were you?" And he stared at him for a few seconds.

"An interrogation." Lian entered and closed the door behind him.

"An interrogation?"

His eyes moved from head to toe, his clothes had been changed, he had changed clothes in the middle of an interrogation.

Kain raised an eyebrow.

"Why do you look like someone who just came back from a war?"

"The interrogation took a long time."

The Child of Light looked at him without saying anything, Lian also looked at him and they stared at each other in silence for a few seconds.
