I Can Devour Spirits

Chapter 633 - 403: Too Dangerous (2)

Zhu Cheng immediately laid the corpse down and began searching, but only found a few silver notes.

Duan Rong looked at the shuttle dart in his hand, his gaze flickering slightly, and thought to himself, "Read Artifact Spirit!"

Immediately, a set of data emerged before his eyes.

Artifact: Black Iron Shuttle Dart

Artifact Spirit Tier: Tier Six

Devouring Requirements: Host’s Spiritual Power Level 6 (satisfied)

Devouring Effect: Ruyi Three-fold Hand Third Level

In the melancholy night, Duan Rong stared at the floating data before his eyes, his gaze flowing. "Ruyi Three-fold Hand? It’s a Hidden Weapon Technique in the True Qi Realm."

"Devour!"

As Duan Rong uttered these two words in his heart, the data panel slowly dissipated in the night.

By this time, Zhu Cheng had already finished searching the bundle beside Zhou Wei’s feet. He looked up.

Neither on Zhou Wei’s body nor in the bundle did he find any useful clues.

Duan Rong handed the Black Iron Shuttle Dart to Zhu Cheng and said, "He has been lurking beside you for years. Someone like him, an undercover agent, is always ready to expose and retreat, leaving almost no clues."

Zhu Cheng sighed, knowing Duan Rong was right, but he was unwilling to be played like this.

He looked at the Black Iron Shuttle Dart in his hand, his gaze suddenly tensing, and said, "Can we find clues with this shuttle dart?"

Duan Rong replied, "You can check it, but the hope should not be high." If clues could be found, the opponent would not have left it.

Zhu Cheng nodded and placed the shuttle dart on Zhou Wei’s corpse.

Zhu Cheng stood up and looked towards the entrance of the main room. Zhou Wei’s residence should also be searched to see if there are any clues, and Zhou Wei’s corpse needs to be handed over to the forensic doctor for further investigation.

He turned to Duan Rong, clasped his fists, and said, "Brother Duan, could I trouble you to guard the scene here? I’ll go to the Ministry of Justice to summon a team to search this courtyard for clues."

Duan Rong nodded and said, "You go ahead. I’m here."

"Thank you!" Zhu Cheng said, and then he leaped out of the courtyard.

Duan Rong had already scanned the house inside and out with his Divine Sense. Seeing Zhu Cheng retreat, he went into the main room, moved a Grandmaster’s Chair to the entrance, and half-slumped in it, preparing to rest and sleep for a while.

In recent years, since crossing to this realm, his nerves had become increasingly nonchalant and coarse. When he first arrived in this world, killing someone for the first time left him nauseated and dizzy. Now, with the corpse beside him, he could sleep soundly.

Honestly, over these years, the number of people he had killed with these hands was beyond counting.

After about an incense stick’s time, troops from the Ministry of Justice had surrounded this place.

One voice exclaimed at the entrance, "Can’t you guys wait for me? It’s the middle of the night; do you know how long I’ve been circling this area?"

The tone of dissatisfaction belonged to Zhu Peng, who arrived after hearing the commotion of the troops.

Zhu Cheng said, "Urgent matters require flexibility! Besides, how could Brother Duan catch up? You fell behind, so reflect more on yourself."

"You..."

While talking, the two had already entered the courtyard.

Duan Rong stretched lazily and stood up.

Upon seeing Duan Rong, Zhu Peng said, "Brother Duan, you’re being too inconsiderate. I hosted you with fine food and drink, yet you didn’t leave me a marker so at least I could follow you."

Duan Rong chuckled and said, "I left a marker!"

Zhu Peng asked, "What marker did you leave?"

Duan Rong said, "I was too full and let out stinky gas all the way. Didn’t you smell it?"

Zhu Cheng patted Zhu Peng on the shoulder, laughing, "That’s indeed your fault. Brother Duan went to such lengths to leave a marker for you, and you didn’t notice? That’s just unforgivable!"

"I can’t be bothered with you two!" Zhu Peng shrugged Zhu Cheng’s hand off his shoulder and ran under the tree to the forensic doctor, to look at Zhou Wei’s corpse.

The troops from the Ministry of Justice had already begun searching inside and outside the courtyard. Duan Rong observed and noticed their techniques were indeed meticulous, being professionals.

Zhu Cheng began searching inside, and Duan Rong also wandered around the room since he had been brought in to assist with the case and had to make an effort.

The Ministry of Justice’s personnel, when handling cases, evidently did so meticulously. As two hours passed, the sky lightened. Many figures were still busily moving inside and outside the house.

Duan Rong yawned. He was only making an effort and had already stayed up all night. He really didn’t want to push through any longer, so he greeted Zhu Cheng and prepared to return to the inn to sleep.

Seeing Duan Rong leaving, Zhu Peng also said he would leave. He had just come to watch the commotion and really didn’t know how to investigate; his role was merely to assist Zhu Cheng with troops if necessary.

Zhu Cheng waved him off, not wanting to engage.

Stepping outside, Zhu Peng found that Duan Rong was nowhere to be found. Zhu Peng muttered with a grin, "Is this guy a ghost? Vanished in a flash."

Saying so, Zhu Peng yawned and headed towards the alley entrance.

Duan Rong ate some breakfast by the street.

Honestly, the wontons and buns in Divine Cloud Prefecture were truly unmatched. Expensive as they were, the taste was undeniably excellent.

Duan Rong wiped his mouth, feeling warmth in his stomach. He slowly walked toward the inn. A good sleep next would be wonderfully comforting.

As he reached the inn, he suddenly noticed quite a few people at the entrance. Those people seemed to have waited all night; some were crouched, some sat, leaning against each other asleep, looking fatigued.

He walked to the inn’s front gate, where a soldier leaning on a long spear was dozing.
