Chapter 169: Hunter’s Arsenal
Chapter 169: Hunter’s Arsenal
"What do you mean, what was I doing there?" Jenny asked with a puzzled expression. "Brother, didn’t you send me a message saying you were in trouble and needed my help?"
Leon’s brows furrowed. "I sent you a message asking for help? When?"
He quickly pulled out his phone and began scrolling through his messages from the past few days.
Suddenly, his fingers froze. His eyes narrowed as they landed on a message sent during the break time two days earlier.
’Jenny, can you please come to my college? Something urgent came up, and I really need your help. Meet me at 2:30 PM.’
The moment Leon finished reading it, his body stiffened. Someone had used his phone to lure Jenny into an ambush.
’That day...’ Leon fell into deep thought as he pieced everything together. ’I left my phone unattended for about a minute while Henry and I were heading to the cafeteria during the break. To think someone took advantage of that brief moment to set up something like this...
But who?
And how am I supposed to find them? There aren’t even any CCTV cameras inside our classroom.’
His thoughts spiraled one after another, but no matter how much he thought about it, he couldn’t find a single clue.
After a long silence, he let out a sigh before looking at Jenny. "Get some more rest. I’ll go finish the discharge paperwork and pay the bill. Then we’ll head home."
Just as Leon was about to stand up, Noira spoke.
"Master, there’s no need. That man named Stanley already paid for all of your sister’s treatment in advance."
Leon blinked. "He did?"
"Yes."
’I owe Mr. Cooper a lot. But, thank goodness...
I was already wondering how I was going to pay the hospital bills. Before leaving for the military training camp, I need to earn some money.’
Soon afterward, they left the hospital and returned home.
Jenny stayed home for the next few days and didn’t go to college. Leon first wanted to find out who was behind all of this. He had already asked for Stanley’s help with the investigation into this.
Noira took care of the cooking and household chores while Leon focused on his remaining exams.
The final four exams passed without any problems.
Now, only one week remained before the results were announced... and before the military training camp entrance test.
"Lamia. Noira." Leon called out one morning.
Lamia emerged from Leon’s Soul Sanctuary, while Noira walked out of the kitchen.
"Yes, Master," the two replied in unison.
"I’m heading out for a while. Keep Jenny safe."
"Understood," Noira answered obediently.
Lamia, however, looked a little disappointed.
She had thought that once Jenny recovered, she would finally be able to accompany Leon everywhere. She didn’t mind protecting Jenny or anyone else Leon entrusted to her.
But what she truly wanted was to stay by Leon’s side all the time.
In the end, she simply nodded.
"But where are you going, Master?" she asked. "Aren’t your exams already over?"
"Yeah, they are." Leon nodded. "But I’m running short on money, so I need to earn some before I leave for the military training camp."
"Money?" Lamia tilted her head. "You mean your world’s currency? I have plenty of spirit coins. You can take as many as you want if they work. What’s mine is yours."
Leon smiled helplessly. "Thanks, but spirit coins aren’t accepted in this world."
"Then how are you planning to earn money, Master? Are you going to raid one of those gates?"
Leon shook his head. "I can’t. Until I get my Hunter license, I’m not allowed to enter one."
"Then what will you do?"
"I recently learned how to forge weapons reinforced with magical abilities. I’m planning to forge a few and sell them. I think that should be enough to cover Jenny’s expenses for the next six months."
"But, Master..." Lamia spoke with a worried expression. "Whatever you do, don’t imprint runic lines beyond the Uncommon Grade."
Her tone was unusually serious.
Leon frowned. "Why?"
"This world can’t withstand the existence of weapons beyond the Uncommon Grade." Lamia looked him straight in the eyes. "If you accidentally forge one and it falls into the wrong hands... you can consider Earth finished."
"T-That serious?" Leon asked in disbelief.
Lamia nodded.
Leon turned toward Noira.
She silently nodded as well.
Leon swallowed hard. ’Seriously? Just what kind of monstrous skill did I obtain? Anything beyond the Uncommon Grade? But that’s only the second level!’ The more he thought about it, the more unbelievable it sounded.
"And what about defensive artifacts?" Leon asked after a moment. "If I forge one above the Uncommon Grade, would that be a problem as well?"
Lamia shook her head. "Defensive artifacts are different. They won’t threaten the world the way powerful weapons do. However..." Her expression became solemn. "Once people learn you’re capable of creating them, countless individuals will either try to win your favor... or capture you by force. You’ll be in grave danger."
’What a mess...’ Leon thought with a helpless sigh.
"Alright. I’ll be careful." With that, Leon left the house.
’I’ll just forge a high-grade defensive artifact and give it to Jenny. As long as no one knows about it, she’ll be safe. And even if someone discovers it while trying to harm her... if that artifact saves her life, then it’ll be worth the risk.’ With that thought in mind, Leon continued walking toward his destination.
Leon briefly considered flying but quickly dismissed the idea. It was broad daylight, and soaring through the sky would attract far too much attention.
Fortunately, he didn’t mind walking.
After nearly an hour and a half, he arrived in front of a two-story building with a large signboard that read:
’Hunter’s Arsenal’.
Without any hesitation, Leon stepped inside.
The building housed numerous weapon shops. The first floor was filled with showrooms displaying all kinds of weapons, equipment and artifacts for sale, while the second floor was reserved for forging and customization.
Leon wandered around leisurely, observing one shop after another.
Eventually, his gaze settled on a store whose displays were filled with the most elegant yet domineering-looking weapons.
Deciding that it looked the most promising, he walked toward its entrance.
But just as he was about to step inside, someone blocked his path.
"Who are you, brat?" the man barked impatiently. "Get lost. Don’t disturb our customers."
