I Dumped My Mate—Now Every Beast King Wants Me
Chapter 199: Second Brother Captured
Chapter 199: Chapter 199: Second Brother Captured
"She actually knows how to grow rice?" The Yilong Family Master felt that Zerev’s claims were getting more and more outrageous.
"If you don’t believe me, Father, you can send someone to the Fuzu Tribe to see for yourself right now. The area outside their tribe is entirely planted with crops, and they even have watermelons."
The Yilong Family Master, a man who had seen much of the world, opened his mouth wide in shock.
"I will send someone to verify this matter. Don’t leave the Holy Capital for the time being, lest the Fire Phoenix Family Master finds more cause for gossip."
"Yes, Father."
Seeing that his father was swayed by his words, Zerev didn’t push the issue, avoiding a counterproductive outcome.
Upon returning to his residence, Zerev closed the door and stripped off his linen outer robe.
He cast his eyes down at his arm. The spot where his Mate Beast Mark should have been was now replaced by a scar. Long before, on his way back to the Holy Capital after failing to find any trace of Kaka, he had carved the Mate Beast Mark out of his own flesh.
It was purely a precaution. Fortunately, he had prepared in advance; otherwise, he wouldn’t have survived today’s ordeal. This was the only way to stall for time, taking it one day at a time.
While tensions ran high in the Holy Capital, harvest season had already arrived at the Fuzu Tribe.
Both the watermelons and the corn were fully ripe. Ophelia led the members of the Fuzu Tribe in harvesting the crops, announcing that they would hold a bonfire party the following evening to celebrate the bountiful yield. This successful harvest proved that Ophelia indeed knew how to cultivate crops. Consequently, the Clan Leaders from the surrounding tribes stopped hesitating from the sidelines and decided to collaborate with her on future planting.
That night, the Fuzu Tribe was bustling with activity. Ophelia was extremely busy, exchanging ideas and negotiating future agricultural collaborations with the various Clan Leaders.
It was the little dragon cubs’ first time attending a bonfire party, and they found everything fascinating. The three little ones darted back and forth through the crowd, playing happily with the cubs from other tribes.
Just then, Momo, a male cub from the Leopard Clan, sought out Dan’er. He looked nervous but forced a relaxed expression. "Dan’er, come with me. I found a really fun place."
"What fun place?" Dan’er’s eyes instantly lit up at the prospect of playing.
"Don’t rush, I’ll call everyone to go together. It’ll be more fun with more people!" Dan’er turned his head to look for his other friends, but Momo grabbed him.
"Dan’er," Momo said. "This is my secret base. I only want to share it with you. Can you please not tell the others?"
Dan’er hesitated.
Momo quickly added, "Dan’er, I’m only telling you about this secret base because I consider you my best friend.
"If you insist on bringing everyone else, then I won’t take you at all."
As he spoke, a trace of anger appeared on Momo’s face.
Seeing this, Dan’er frantically waved his hands. "Don’t be mad, I just won’t tell them." He really liked his new friend Momo and didn’t want such a trivial matter to ruin their friendship.
Momo breathed a sigh of relief, a smile returning to his face. "Then let’s go."
Momo pulled Dan’er toward the outskirts of the tribe. Watching the tribal square grow further and further away, Dan’er felt a twinge of anxiety. "Momo, where are you taking me? If we go any further, we’ll be outside the tribe."
"My secret base isn’t far outside the Fuzu Tribe. It’s fine, don’t worry. Nothing bad will happen. I’ll protect you!" Momo patted his chest in reassurance.
"It’s already dark out. Why don’t we go tomorrow?" Dan’er suggested. Because there were so many visitors today, their mother had specifically warned them not to wander too far. Deep down, Dan’er was quite reluctant to leave the safety of the tribe just to play.
"Dan’er, do you not trust me? Hmph, if you don’t believe me, I won’t be your friend anymore!"
With that, Momo threw off the third cub’s hand and ran off toward the outside of the tribe.
Dan’er furrowed his little brows tightly. After a moment of hesitation, he chased after Momo.
Because of the bonfire party that evening, the male guards at the tribe’s entrance were much more lax than usual. Dan’er and Momo slipped out of the tribe one after another without a single guard noticing.
Dan’er followed Momo further and further away. Looking at the pitch-black woods ahead, he grew frightened. "Momo, stop running. It’s too dark, I’m a little scared."
Ahead of him, Momo ignored his pleas and kept running, though his pace gradually slowed. Dan’er took a deep breath and quickly caught up, grabbing Momo’s arm. "It’s too late. Let’s go back to the Fuzu Tribe."
Seeing the genuine concern in Dan’er’s eyes, Momo’s own eyes reddened with tears. "I’m sorry, Dan’er, but I had no choice.
"If I didn’t do this, they would kill my mother."
Dan’er was stunned. Although he was playful, he wasn’t stupid; he instantly realized he had fallen into a trap. He looked around cautiously and soon noticed a rustling sound coming from the nearby bushes.
"Little male cub, your mother killed our Young Master, so I’m going to kill you to avenge him!" Kaka’s eyes were bloodshot. Morphing one hand into a sharp claw, he lunged at Dan’er.
Suddenly, a hand reached out from the side and stopped him. "Hold on, Kaka."
"Tiger, why are you stopping me?" Kaka glared furiously at the other male.
"Killing a little cub is simple enough, Kaka, but it was Ophelia and Zerev who caused the Young Master’s death. We’d be better off using this cub as bait to lure them out. That is the only way to truly avenge the Young Master."
Hearing this, an eerie smile crept onto Kaka’s face. "You’re right, Tiger."
Listening to their exchange, Dan’er waited for an opportunity to flee. However, he hadn’t made it more than a few steps before Tiger caught up and snatched him by the scruff of his neck.
Dan’er was terrified and wanted to unleash his superpower. However, his superpower was currently only strong enough to take down one male at most. There were two of them here; even if he managed to strike one, he would just be caught by the other.
Dan’er rolled his eyes in thought and decided to hold his ground for now. Besides, from the sound of it, they didn’t intend to harm him immediately. His father had taught him before that he should never expose his superpower unless his life was in absolute peril.
A second before Tiger knocked him unconscious, Dan’er’s gaze landed on Momo’s face. He ground his little fangs together. "Momo, we are no longer friends."
Momo covered his mouth, sobbing uncontrollably. "I’m sorry, Dan’er, I didn’t want to do this."
But Tiger and Kaka had captured his mother and used her life as leverage. How could he possibly refuse?
Dan’er’s disappearance was only discovered after the bonfire party had ended.
Exhausted after a long day, Tyler had boiled water, ready to give the three little ones a bath. But when he went up to the third floor to check, he found that Dan’er hadn’t returned. Tyler and Lobak searched the entire Fuzu Tribe but couldn’t find a single trace of Dan’er. Starting to panic, he hurriedly reported the matter to Ophelia.
Ophelia paused in the middle of drying her hair. "Dan’er is missing? When did this happen?"
"I don’t know," Tyler replied. "Princess, could it be people from the Holy Capital?"
Klein, who had walked over after hearing the news of Dan’er’s disappearance, rejected Tyler’s guess. "It can’t be people from the Holy Capital.
"At the absolute fastest, it takes three to five days to travel here from the Holy Capital. It’s only been a few days; even if they received word, they couldn’t possibly have arrived this quickly."
"Then who do you think it is?"
