Chapter 856: Chapter 73: Remembering the Feast, Forgetting the Beating
Martial Heart Sect, the Lower Courtyard where the Outer Disciples lived.
"Damn it, I’m about to get eaten alive by these mosquitoes. Is that brat coming back or not!" Shi Dazhu gritted his teeth and snarled. They’d already waited several hours, and that bastard still hadn’t returned.
"What’re you rushing for? With his strength, he can at least play a few side matches at Jiuxiao Building. If he wins some money, you really think he can resist that kind of flashy world? Young guys will definitely party till their waist goes soft and legs cramp. Hit him while he’s sick, take his life while you’re at it!" Gan Jiu said, casually slapping a few finger-long giant mosquitoes to death, his hand covered in blood.
"Fatty Nine, you better be reliable this time. Bring out some real goods, don’t mess around with useless crap, or I’ll really mess you up!" Shi Dazhu threatened.
"Heh heh, relax. Who the hell is truly immune to a hundred poisons? Before, I was just worried about residue being found. This time I spent real money and got some Erosion Moon Fragrance from the Black Market. This stuff is premium. Even a Golden Core Great Power would go soft for a while after smelling it. Pair that with the Silencing Array from Gang Refining Hall, and we can go all out on him," Gan Jiu said viciously. "But once it’s done, the cost of the incense and the Array—each of us pays half."
In the front and back corners of Li Xin’s courtyard, there were now two small bronze-colored figurine pillars, each little figure’s hands forming a Hand Seal.
"Hmph, small fry. He dared to slap my face? I’d love to peel his skin off!"
Just thinking of being beaten half to death by Li Xin, especially that move of his that made a man want to die and stripped away all dignity, sent hatred surging straight to his head. Foreign crooked techniques like that—everyone had the right to kill.
The mosquito bites didn’t hurt as much anymore.
On the other side, Li Xin had eaten and drunk his fill and was lazily strolling back to the Sect. That dinner was on Liu Zhongyang, and the four of them had parted ways. By the time Li Xin returned to Martial Heart Sect, it was already deep into the night.
When he reached the mountain gate, he burped, looked up at the red moon in the sky. In his ears were the chirps of insects, the air was fresh, and the temperature just right. The abundant Spiritual Energy made both body and mind relax, almost like being on a mountain vacation.
It had been a long time since he felt this relaxed, able to actually feel himself instead of rushing around all day.
Ever since he came to the Divine Land, in the first few days he kept thinking he had to do something, especially after learning there were Night Patrol in the Divine Land as well. But these past few days he’d suddenly calmed down. Sometimes he thought, you’ve already transmigrated, so why still act like some corporate drone—so anxious, carrying such a heavy burden? The world will keep spinning without you; it’s just absurd.
The debt he owed Martial Heart Sect didn’t need to be repaid in a rush.
This was more like the place he imagined Beijing people should live in—far from his old noise and shackles. He’d met two strange old friends, Liu Zhongyang and Ku Chan, plus a new friend, Xiao Yan. It felt very comfortable.
He rubbed his belly, pushed open the courtyard gate, his eyes flickering slightly as the corner of his mouth curled up. "I’m stuffed. That seductive woman tasted amazing. Her legs were longer than my life; that waist—tsk tsk—smooth, slick, springy..."
Hiding in the shadows on the side of the roof, Gan Jiu gripped his Dagger, while Shi Dazhu was clenching his staff so tightly he wished he could smash Li Xin to death right then. But they were still holding back.
Humming a little tune, Li Xin pushed open the door. A faint Buddhist incense wafted into his nose; it actually smelled pretty nice. He deliberately yawned and flopped heavily onto the bed.
With a creak, the door opened again, and at the same time the Array activated. Swish...
Gan Jiu hadn’t even moved yet when Shi Dazhu, no longer able to hold back, fused man and staff into one, and his dark long staff came crashing down viciously toward the bed.
Boom...
Li Xin’s bed instantly collapsed. A split second later, Shi Dazhu felt something was off. He whipped his staff sideways in a sudden sweep, knocking back the attacking Li Xin. Gan Jiu, like some nimble ball, pounced at Li Xin as well. One long, one short, one nimble, one Fierce—their teamwork was unexpectedly decent.
"Fatty Nine, get lost, let me handle this!"
With a low growl, Shi Dazhu stopped pretending entirely. His Spiritual Ability exploded out with a roar, and one sweeping strike of his staff directly blew Li Xin’s roof clean off.
Li Xin retreated, dodging, and stepped into the courtyard. Shi Dazhu burst through the window. Under the moonlight, the iron staff in his hands gleamed with a faint, sinister light.
"Fatty Nine, Idiot Zhu, you two really don’t remember the beating you took, huh." Li Xin couldn’t help but laugh.
"Brat, you really think we can’t handle you? Today I’ll show you what the Infinite Qiankun Staff really is!" Shi Dazhu let out a low roar and charged in with a single thrust of his staff.
Boom boom boom boom...
The Fierce staff technique instantly enveloped Li Xin. The sheer Fierce power was no joke. Shi Dazhu’s whole body was radiating the Spiritual Ability of a Peak of Four Lives. In the middle of such ferocious moves, he was still holding back, not daring to use full power, afraid the Array would overflow and people on the mountain would notice something wrong.
Li Xin, riding his drunken buzz, swayed wildly among the staff shadows, dodging every single attack. He even got close enough to almost touch faces with Shi Dazhu, nearly driving the man insane. Shi Dazhu’s staff grew more and more savage. With one heavy overhead smash, Li Xin realized this wouldn’t do. That Array they’d set up probably couldn’t handle this blow. In an instant he used a "Scooping the Moon from the Sea," redirected the force with a pull, grabbed the staff and spun upward, then stomped down hard on Shi Dazhu’s toes. Idiot Zhu sucked in a cold breath, the staff flying from his hands. Before he could react, his head took a blow, the pain making him clutch his skull. Then Li Xin stomped on the instep of his other foot, and Shi Dazhu crouched on the ground, frantically rubbing.
Li Xin rested the staff on his shoulder, staring at Gan Jiu with a half-smile. Gan Jiu tossed his Dagger aside and obediently squatted to the side. "Master Xin, I was forced! It was him—he forced me with the staff. If I didn’t listen, he said he’d stab me clean through."
"Guess whether I believe you...or don’t believe you?" Li Xin glanced at the two of them, then checked the situation up on the mountain. He didn’t want extra trouble, but these two still needed some discipline.
Li Xin walked up to Shi Dazhu. Shi Dazhu’s whole body tensed up. Just as he was about to run, a Spiritual Rope bound him tight. "Be good, endure it a bit."
The Bone-Scraping Soul Refining Hand slammed into Shi Dazhu. The next second, the light vanished from Shi Dazhu’s eyes; he turned into a mantis shrimp, crazily rubbing against the ground. When he felt he couldn’t take it anymore, he bit down on the staff.
Li Xin then went over to Gan Jiu. Gan Jiu’s chubby face had completely lost its color. He casually pulled off his shoe and bit down on it. "Come... ah..."
The horrific pain made the shoe fly from his mouth instantly. Fatty Nine hurriedly picked it up and shoved it back between his teeth, writhing wildly on the ground like a giant grub, bouncing around; he actually got two or three meters off the ground. Shi Dazhu had it worse—tied up, he could only shake on the spot.
Li Xin just squatted to the side, smoking. How were these two idiots this stubborn? At least their bodies were pretty sturdy.
By the time Li Xin finished his cigarette, the strength in Fatty Nine and Idiot Zhu’s bodies had more or less faded. They lay on the ground like two fish out of water, mouths hanging open weakly.
