Chapter 201: Chapter 111: I Got You an Appointment with a Chinese Medicine Doctor

"Let’s go."

Song Jianye had a rather extensive bedtime routine, what with skincare and face masks. If they got back late, she wouldn’t have enough time.

The two of them walked out of the library, and Song Jianye gazed at the Miyue Ice City storefront up ahead.

"Don’t even think about it. Let’s go."

Chen Yuan didn’t want to police Song Jianye, but it was a task from Uncle Zhang. When she was with him, he definitely had to rein her in a little.

As for when she wasn’t with him, he just let her do as she pleased.

"I’m not getting one for myself. I want to buy some for my classmates."

"I still remember the last time I walked you back to your dorm and you immediately ran off to buy a cold drink."

"I swear, this time it’s really for my classmates." Song Jianye held up her delicate, fair hand, looking at Chen Yuan with pleading eyes.

"Pleeeease?"

No one could refuse a Sweet Sister, not even a stone-hearted man like Chen Yuan.

"Fine..."

"Hehe, let’s go."

The two arrived at the Miyue Ice City, where Song Jianye was such a regular that the owner already recognized her.

"What’ll it be this time?" the owner asked with a smile.

"Four hot lattes, please. Thanks."

"You got it. Just a moment."

"I thought your favorite was the fresh orange drink?"

"See? I told you you misunderstood me. This really is for my classmates."

Song Jianye was the type to always repay a kindness. She always found her own way to thank anyone who helped her.

’Someone must have helped her, so she’s buying them coffee to say thank you.’

Chen Yuan felt a flicker of sympathy and was tempted to let her buy one for herself, but on second thought, he decided against it.

’She definitely drinks plenty when I’m not around,’ he thought. ’Aside from that one week she was acting all weird, there’s no way she’d deprive herself.’

"Do you want one?"

Chen Yuan shook his head. He was no longer interested in an innocent little Xuezi; a mature Shanghai socialite was his preference now.

Soon, the four coffees were ready. Since they were taking a different route than usual, they arrived at Dormitory 3 first.

"Alright, I’ll walk you back."

"No, it’s okay! I have to go to the Economics and Management building to find my classmates. You can head back first. I promise, I absolutely will not sneak off to buy anything."

"You sure?"

"Positive."

Chen Yuan nodded. "In that case, I’ll head back."

"Good night, then. I’ll say it now."

"Just behave yourself."

Chen Yuan returned to his dorm, while Song Jianye carried the coffees to the Economics and Management building, tiptoeing up to room 206.

She stood at the doorway and poked her head in to take a look.

Inside the classroom, four people—two men and two women—were sitting together, arguing loudly.

"Nian Nian!"

Just then, a girl with a ponytail spotted Song Jianye. Her name was Miao Yuxuan, and she was a member of the School of Economics and Management’s debate team.

Their dorm rooms were across the hall from each other, so they saw each other often, popping into each other’s rooms to chat.

The other three looked up. When they saw it was Song Jianye, they put down the A4 papers in their hands, deciding to resume their discussion later.

As the campus belle of the University of Science and Technology, she was a welcome sight to everyone, not just students from her own school.

"Nian Nian, what brings you here?" Miao Yuxuan asked, walking over.

"I heard you all were preparing for the debate competition, so I thought I’d come see how it’s going. I’m not interrupting, am I?"

"Not at all, not at all. We were just chatting."

"I bought you all some coffee. Miyue Ice City is the only option on campus, so I hope this is okay."

"Nian Nian, you’re the best! Love ya!"

Miao Yuxuan and Song Jianye were pretty friendly, so she didn’t hesitate, calling the others over to grab a coffee.

"The debate finals are tomorrow, right?"

"Yup. Our opponent is Xinyuan. They’ve been the worst team for years, but they got ridiculously lucky this year and somehow made it to the finals. On top of that, we drew the affirmative position. The championship is as good as ours."

"Oh, okay. What’s this year’s topic?"

"’Is money everything?’ We’re arguing for, they’re arguing against. I can’t even imagine a scenario where we lose," Miao Yuxuan said, slurping her coffee.

"You could say Xinyuan is just unlucky. They finally make it to the finals, only to get stuck arguing the negative."

The speaker was a guy with short hair named Gao Ziming.

"So Xinyuan doesn’t stand a chance at all?" Song Jianye asked tentatively.

"I don’t think so. Xinyuan’s team has always been at the bottom. They lack experience, and their school doesn’t even care about the competition. The fact that they even made it to the finals is a miracle."

The one who spoke this time was another guy, Guo Xintong. He had long hair and looked a bit like one of those ’aesthetic’ pretty boys from the internet. He often posted videos of himself looking cool on TikTok and had managed to get a few thousand followers.

But standing in front of Song Jianye, he instinctively toned down his swagger, not daring to show off in the slightest.

"I know some people over at Xinyuan, and I asked them about it. Their team doesn’t have a coach. They’re finding all their own materials and learning debate techniques online. They’re no match for us."

"Oh..."

Song Jianye looked a little deflated. She looked at the four of them and said, "I have a good friend... he’s in Xinyuan, too. He’s substituting for a classmate in the debate finals."

The four of them immediately sobered up and exchanged glances. Miao Yuxuan was the first to speak.

"Nian Nian, you’re not here to spy on the competition, are you? Even though you bought us coffee, we can’t tell you anything. It’s a matter of principle."

Guo Xintong added, "We’ve won the championship for the last two years. We have to secure a three-peat for the school’s honor."

Gao Ziyang said, "You should give up on that unrealistic idea."

Liu Lu declared, "This three-peat is a gift from the heavens. No one, and nothing, can shake our resolve to win."

Seeing how determined the four of them were, Song Jianye ventured,

"Would ten thousand do it?"

"Huh? What did you just say?"

"Ten thousand each. I don’t want my good friend to lose."
