Chapter 202 - 112: Wanting to Do Push-ups on His Body
Chapter 202: Chapter 112: Wanting to Do Push-ups on His Body
At 7:00 PM on Wednesday, the debate competition at Polytechnic University came to an end.
Xinyuan won the championship, and Chen Yuan was named Best Debater.
The entire competition could only be described as bizarre.
It was supposed to be a guaranteed loss, but their team had still prepared thoroughly. Regardless, everyone went into it with the mentality that it was the taking part that counted.
The other team were the two-time reigning champions, notoriously strong in debate. There was no way their team could win.
And yet, they still won.
The other team’s arguments didn’t have a leg to stand on. They crumbled at the first challenge, posing no threat to Xinyuan whatsoever.
Everyone was cheering, celebrating the victory.
But Chen Yuan sensed something was off.
Before the competition, Song Jianye had given him lots of advice and offered many lines of reasoning. And as luck would have it, they all happened to be the opposing team’s arguments and evidence.
That was extremely strange.
"Alright, spill it. What’s going on?"
Chen Yuan asked as he was walking Song Jianye back to his dorm.
"What do you mean, ’what’s going on’?"
"Where did you get all those arguments for the affirmative side that you gave me?"
"I found them online."
"You’d better tell me the truth," Chen Yuan said, "or I’m not taking you out anymore."
"Did you go snooping for intel on them?"
"No, I was completely open and aboveboard about it," Song Jianye said with a straight face.
"And how exactly were you ’open and aboveboard’?"
"Ten thousand bucks a person."
"Huh?"
Chen Yuan stared at Song Jianye. "You mean to tell me you gave them ten thousand bucks each?"
"I didn’t want you to lose, so I came up with this plan. Pretty good, huh?"
Song Jianye looked at Chen Yuan with hopeful eyes, as if to say, ’Come on, praise me a little.’
Chen Yuan was floored.
’I thought money wasn’t everything? Ten thousand each was all it took to buy you guys off?’
"Not bad, not bad at all," Chen Yuan praised him sincerely. "Making good use of your resources. If money can solve the problem, don’t waste your brainpower."
"I tried using my brain, but I couldn’t come up with anything, so I figured I’d just use money."
"Attaboy."
"Hehe, anyway, it’s a good thing that you guys took first place and you were named Best Debater. That’s the best possible outcome."
Standing at the entrance of the dormitory, Song Jianye waved at Chen Yuan.
"It’s getting late, I’m gonna head back now."
"Yeah, go on."
After Song Jianye left, Chen Yuan didn’t head back to his dorm either.
’Mili’s being weaned off her night feedings, and Jiang Wanyi might not be able to handle it alone. I should probably keep going over for a few more days.’
He stopped at the school gate to buy some drinks, then went to Jiang Wanyi’s apartment.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—
"Coming!"
Jiang Wanyi’s voice came from inside.
When the door opened, Jiang Wanyi was standing there in yoga pants and a tank top. There were fine beads of sweat on her forehead, and her perky, voluptuous figure was on full display.
"Dressed like that, and you don’t even check who’s at the door before opening it."
’I’m showing a little too much,’ she thought, glancing down at her chest. ’It’s fine in front of Chen Yuan, but definitely not in front of a stranger.’
However, she had looked through the peephole before opening the door. She only opened it so readily because she knew it was Chen Yuan.
But...
’The way he said that... he must be worried about other people seeing me like this.’
Jiang Wanyi thought back to what had happened that morning. ’Even though he was born in the 2000s, he’s pretty old-fashioned. And quite protective, too.’
"I guessed it was you," Jiang Wanyi said with a smile. "Besides, I looked through the peephole. I only opened up because I was sure it was you."
"Come on in—"
Before she could finish, she suddenly saw a door open behind Chen Yuan.
Before Jiang Wanyi could react, Chen Yuan pushed her inside and quickly shut the door.
Just then, the security door between her apartment and the elevator opened. A delivery guy walked in, holding two packages.
"Sir, package for this apartment."
"Alright, thanks."
Chen Yuan took the packages, and the delivery guy left.
Chen Yuan knocked on the door again.
Jiang Wanyi opened the door sheepishly. She had put on a jacket, covering her chest, and took the packages from Chen Yuan’s hands.
"That was an unexpected incident."
"Still, you need to be more careful."
With that, Chen Yuan let himself in.
"Wait a second."
Jiang Wanyi stopped Chen Yuan at the doorway, not letting him come further inside.
"Let’s add your fingerprint to the lock. That way you won’t have to knock anymore," Jiang Wanyi said.
"I couldn’t do that. I’ll just keep knocking."
"What’s the big deal? Just add your fingerprint already. It’ll save me the trouble of having to open the door for you."
She tapped a few times on the smart lock and, following the prompts, had Chen Yuan register his fingerprint before finally letting him inside.
She found a pair of slippers for Chen Yuan. Just as he’d slipped them on, he saw Mili crawling out of her playpen.
"Look at you, climbing out all by yourself. You’re amazing."
Chen Yuan picked up the baby and habitually nuzzled his cheek against hers.
"You’re getting so clever now. A little playpen can’t hold you anymore."
Mili had a mischievous look in her eyes. Even while in Chen Yuan’s arms, her attention was fixed on the fruit tea.
"Your papa bought this for me," Jiang Wanyi told her. "You can look, but you can’t have any."
Afraid the baby might start crying, Chen Yuan put her back in the playpen.
Jiang Wanyi went into the kitchen and returned with a small, amber-colored bottle.
"I can’t just take your things for free. This is for you."
"What is this?"
"Goji berry concentrate."
Chen Yuan: ???
"What’s this for? I thought we were going to see a traditional Chinese doctor tomorrow? We don’t even know if anything’s wrong yet, and you’re already putting me on a regimen."
"It’s about taking precautions. Even if there’s nothing wrong, it’s good for you to drink it regularly."
"You should drink it instead. It also replenishes qi and blood."
"Absolutely not!"
Her tone on the matter brooked no argument. She went ahead and opened the small bottle for Chen Yuan.
