Chapter 93: Chapter 92: Both Numbers Were Drawn

The press conference began.

The host, standing on a hover platform by the stage, delivered some tired old opening remarks.

"Distinguished gentlemen, ladies, and all our adorable~ little ones, good morning!"

The host’s voice, amplified, echoed into every corner of the venue.

Over a dozen camera drones from major media outlets flew around the venue, their footage broadcast live on the Star Network Platform.

Inside her seating pod, Shu Yao was bored to tears. She opened the pod’s built-in virtual store and added the new Mecha model, available for pre-sale, to her cart.

The original price was 180,000.

She had to pay a ten-percent deposit, and they didn’t knock off a single credit.

Shu Yao propped her chin on her hand and grumbled, "With so many people buying, you’d think they’d offer a small discount."

A low chuckle rumbled in Qin Shiwei’s throat. "Not everyone at this conference is here for the new product."

Shu Yao thought for a moment, then nodded in understanding.

Only 5,000 tickets were available for the conference. Each ticket holder was eligible to draw a number.

Out of the 5,000 numbers, 50 lucky winners would get a limited-edition model for free.

That was why most people here were aiming for the limited-edition model.

It was also why tickets for the conference, after being resold several times on the Star Network, could fetch such an exorbitant price.

If you hit the jackpot, you could walk away with a limited-edition model. The ticket would more than pay for itself, and you could always buy the standard new product during the official release later.

Shu Yao hoped for the limited-edition model, but she wasn’t getting her hopes up.

After all, who could predict matters of probability?

Getting your hopes up only to be let down would lead to disappointment and resentment.

It was much more relaxing to just grab the new model, go home, and complete the task her uncle had given her.

Besides, the most important thing was that her son was happy.

The door to their seating pod slid open, and a service robot brought in a new Kunlun Model.

"Hello, it is my pleasure to serve you. This is the latest Kunlun Mecha Model you ordered. Please accept it."

Shu Yao froze, glancing at the item still sitting in her virtual shopping cart.

She hadn’t even had a chance to pay for it; the payment window wasn’t even open yet.

"AHHH!"

Xiao Juzi shrieked with joy, throwing his arms around the model—which was a head taller than him—and jumping up and down excitedly.

Shu Yao looked at the man beside her.

’He probably pulled some strings again.’

For once, Qin Shiwei’s attention was actually on his son.

The little one was beside himself with excitement.

Shu Yao patted his head. "Sweetie, this is your first model. Do you like it?"

"I love it~" Xiao Juzi nodded furiously.

Shu Yao added, "Your dad bought it for you. Shouldn’t you say thank you to him?"

Xiao Juzi looked awkwardly over at Qin Shiwei.

The man sat with his arms crossed and his legs propped up, looking like an understated emperor as he watched the little boy with a leisurely air.

It was as if he were waiting for the ’thank you’.

’What a jerk!’

"Thanks!" he blurted out, then gave a haughty huff and turned his puffy-cheeked face away.

’Saying thanks was fine.’

’Calling him Dad? Impossible!’

’He was already being generous by not calling him a jerk to his face.’

Qin Shiwei: "..." ’So uncute!’

"Hee hee~" Xiao Juzi hugged the model, letting out a silly, childish giggle.

Shu Yao couldn’t resist teasing him. "Since your dad bought you the model, you can carry it back yourself."

Xiao Juzi asked sweetly, "Mom, can I sleep with it tonight?"

"As long as you don’t put it on my bed, you can do whatever you want." Shu Yao had no desire to be woken up in the middle of the night by something cold and hard jabbing her.

Xiao Juzi furrowed his brow, finding the choice difficult. After a moment of internal struggle, he finally made a decision, and his brow smoothed out.

"I’ll let you have my sleep pod tonight. Don’t be lonely, okay? I’ll play with you as soon as the sun comes up~" The little one was treating the model like a new friend.

Qin Shiwei: "..." ’No, it won’t be lonely tonight!’

Shu Yao, however, was thinking, ’It really is time to create an environment where Zaizai can meet more kids his own age...’

On the hover platform, the host got the audience to join in a countdown.

When the countdown finished, the payment window opened.

On the holographic screen, a string of numbers was climbing rapidly—the real-time total of sales.

In just a few seconds, it had already reached nine figures!

Those who placed their orders at the conference would receive their models immediately. Anyone ordering through other channels would have to wait at least three months.

The pre-order deposit was non-refundable. Shu Yao resignedly paid the remaining balance, thus completing the task her uncle had set for her.

Ten minutes later, the growth in total sales finally began to slow.
