I Married the President
Chapter 582: Part of the Plan
Chapter 582: Chapter 582: Part of the Plan
When Theo Rhodes walked in, Claire Sinclair’s computer was still playing the shocking revelation.
Claire Sinclair sat before the computer with a grim expression. She would normally have been asleep by this time, but right now, she wasn’t the least bit tired.
Theo Rhodes walked up behind her and said softly, "Master."
Claire Sinclair turned around and said in a low voice, "Thanks for your hard work."
Theo Rhodes scratched his head, smiling sheepishly. "Master, about all that baseless slander I was spouting about you earlier... don’t take it to heart."
Claire Sinclair shook her head gently. "It was all part of the plan. I don’t mind. It’s late. You should go home and rest."
"Master, aren’t you going to sleep?"
"I need to calm down."
Theo Rhodes simply pulled out a chair and sat down across from her. "I can’t sleep right now either. How about I keep you company and we can chat?"
Claire Sinclair nodded but said nothing.
Landon Winston, who had been standing to the side, suddenly spoke up. "Young Madam, you should get some rest."
Claire Sinclair looked up at him, feeling a deep sense of powerlessness. "I can’t sleep. I know for a fact that a group of people are engaged in illegal activities, but I’m powerless to do anything about it."
Landon Winston said, "First of all, this matter is beyond your capabilities. You are a journalist, not a police officer. Secondly, Young Master Quincy has already sent people to provide support. If any new evidence is found, we will report it immediately. You don’t need to worry, Young Madam. The arm of the law is long, and no one can escape the eyes of justice."
’As expected of someone trained by The Great Demon King Quincy,’ she thought. ’He’s a master at spouting these cynical platitudes.’
Claire Sinclair offered a slight smile and said, "Alright then. I’ll go to sleep. You two should go back and rest as well."
Only then did Landon Winston and Theo Rhodes leave, reassured.
Lying in bed, Claire Sinclair still couldn’t fall asleep.
St. Nina’s Private Hospital was just one of the hospitals collaborating with the Miracle Health Clinic. To produce drugs in such large quantities, this one hospital probably wasn’t enough to supply the "goods."
Therefore, she suspected that the Miracle Health Clinic likely had sources other than just hospitals for its "drug primers."
Furthermore, Joan Jacobs had specifically mentioned that she and Cyrus Marshall had been seeing each other secretly for five years. This meant that five years ago, Cyrus Marshall already possessed a certain amount of wealth that his wife knew nothing about.
But the Miracle Health Clinic hadn’t even been established five years ago. So where did Cyrus Marshall get the money he gave to Joan Jacobs?
’These questions could only be answered with a deeper investigation.’
「As the sky began to lighten.」
Claire Sinclair, having been awake all night, felt drained that morning. She used the excuse of not feeling well to refuse all visitors.
First thing in the morning, Joan Jacobs ran next door to knock on Theo Rhodes’s door. She looked flustered, yet there was also a hint of uncontrollable excitement in her expression.
Theo Rhodes opened the door and gave her a cold look. "Miss Jacobs, do you need something this early?"
Seeing his frigid attitude sent a chill through Joan Jacobs. "Rhodes, last night..."
"’Rhodes?’" Theo Rhodes frowned. "Miss Jacobs, if I recall correctly, you’re a few years older than me, aren’t you?"
"Y-You don’t remember what happened last night?" Joan Jacobs was stunned, a sudden panic rising in her heart.
Theo Rhodes said irritably, "I tend to black out when I drink. I didn’t do anything to you, did I?"
Joan Jacobs bit her lip, her eyes welling with grievance as she whispered, "We slept together last night."
’Bullshit.’
Theo Rhodes hadn’t been drunk last night at all. He had left the room the moment he’d finished pumping her for information. There had been no "sleeping together" to speak of.
’This woman has some nerve.’
"Do you have any proof?" Theo Rhodes asked, his expression unreadable.
"Proof?" Joan Jacobs was dumbstruck.
