I Married the President
Chapter 589: Can You Take Me to See Him?
Chapter 589: Chapter 589: Can You Take Me to See Him?
A wave of disappointment washed over Claire Sinclair. Her unease spiraled into anxiety, and finally, into fear.
At that moment, she desperately wanted to go to him, to have him by her side, to protect this new baby together.
She was truly afraid—afraid she wasn’t strong enough to protect the baby on her own, afraid her own weakness would mean repeating the same mistakes.
Her confidence wavering once more, Claire Sinclair grabbed her phone and walked to the door. Landon Winston was still standing guard outside. She asked at once, "Winston, do you know where Mr. Quincy is? I want to find him."
Landon Winston replied, "Young Master Quincy is at sea, assisting with a mission. I’m afraid you won’t be able to see him even if you go. This mission is rather important and carries a certain amount of risk. It’s not advisable for you, Young Madam, to go out to sea at this time."
"Oh, I see..." Disappointed, Claire Sinclair retreated back into her room. A heavy blanket of unease and fear settled over her world, and she felt increasingly helpless.
She curled up in a corner as tears began to fall, beyond her control. She just couldn’t shake the restless anxiety. She realized she couldn’t get through this alone, as if she had regressed to that awful state she was in before she met him, to that bone-deep feeling of inferiority.
Crying, she picked up her phone and sent him a voice message. "Adrian, please come back soon, okay? I miss you so much..."
She cried as she waited, continuing until night fell and it was time for dinner, but he still hadn’t returned.
Growing more and more distressed, Claire Sinclair wiped her tears and walked to the door, asking Landon Winston again, "Winston, is Mr. Quincy’s business concluded? I want to see him."
Landon Winston saw that her eyes were red and swollen and asked with concern, "Young Madam, what’s wrong? Have you been crying?"
Claire Sinclair forced a smile. "I wasn’t crying. I just suddenly had an overwhelming urge to see Mr. Quincy. Can you take me to him?"
Landon Winston glanced at his watch. "He should be back around now. Please just wait a little longer, Young Madam."
"All right, I’ll wait a little longer." Disheartened, Claire Sinclair went back into her room again.
She was feeling incredibly fragile and couldn’t stop herself from sending him another message: Adrian, please come back soon, okay?
A moment later, her phone suddenly rang. It was him calling!
Claire Sinclair answered at once, asking eagerly, "Mr. Quincy, are you back?"
"I’m still at sea. An emergency came up. It might be another two days before I can get back."
"Oh, I see..." Claire Sinclair was deeply disappointed. Suddenly, she didn’t want to say anything at all.
Adrian Quincy asked in a deep voice, "Have you been crying?"
Claire Sinclair flatly denied it. "No. Why would I cry? I just suddenly started missing you a lot, that’s all."
"Claire, I’m sorry. I broke my promise."
"It’s okay. The mission comes first. If it were me, I’d also finish the mission first if an emergency came up."
Claire Sinclair was very clear-headed about this. That was the kind of person he was, and as it turned out, she was the same.
Because somewhere along the line, she had learned to prioritize the bigger picture, to read the situation, and to care about matters of national importance.
Adrian Quincy asked her, "Did you take the pregnancy test yet?"
Claire Sinclair froze for a moment, then said instinctively, "I wanted to wait until you were back to take it. I’m scared to face the result alone."
"Claire..." Adrian Quincy’s heart ached. "I’m sorry I couldn’t be by your side when you needed me."
"I told you it’s okay. Stop apologizing."
"That question you asked me earlier today... do you still want to know the answer?"
Claire Sinclair hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Tell me."
