Chapter 734: Chapter 734: Am I About to Give Birth?
Ethan Kingsley let go, then gently smoothed her hair. "Behave yourself here," he said finally. "Don’t get any funny ideas."
"Does this mean I can call you if I need anything?" Ivy Tanner asked.
Ethan Kingsley nodded. "Don’t bother me over little things."
"Okay." Ivy Tanner nodded.
’She refused to believe that if she kept calling him, she wouldn’t once catch Corinne Linden on the other end.’
-
Ever since Ethan Kingsley left that day, Ivy Tanner had begun her campaign of harassment.
She would call him at the most random times to talk about the most trivial things.
For example...
"Ethan Kingsley, I had winter melon soup today. The baby kicked me, and it hurt a little."
His voice was grim on the other end. "Are you looking for trouble?"
Ivy Tanner immediately played dumb. "I was just bored."
"Just wait until I have time to come over and deal with you!"
CLICK. The line went dead.
Or another time...
"Ethan Kingsley, my baby will be here in two more months. Could you help me pick a name? Not just one—one for a boy and one for a girl. Please?"
His voice was grim. "I have no interest in naming someone else’s child. Stop bothering me!"
CLICK. The line went dead again.
Or how about...
"Ethan Kingsley, I can’t sleep. The baby keeps kicking me and won’t settle down. Can you help me soothe him to sleep? Please?"
"You’ve got a death wish!"
CLICK. The line went dead again.
And another time...
"Ethan Kingsley, I don’t know why, but I’ve been getting these random sharp pains in my stomach lately. Am I going into labor? I’m a little scared."
Ethan Kingsley suppressed his inner rage, saying through gritted teeth, "Don’t bother me!"
CLICK...
The next day, she was back at it, relentlessly calling him again. "Ethan Kingsley, my stomach hurts again, and the baby is kicking me so hard. I really think I’m about to go into labor. Will you please help me think of a name for the baby?"
Ethan Kingsley snapped, "I don’t have time!"
Ivy Tanner pouted. "If you don’t have time, then why did you answer my call? You must have time."
"Little Cutie, do you think it’s fun to mess with me like this?"
"Of course. I’ve been bored for so long, and you’re the one who insisted on locking me up. Who else am I supposed to bother? Wouldn’t you agree?"
"Just wait till I get there. You’ll be sorry!"
CLICK...
Ivy Tanner was having the time of her life. Especially when he hung up on her in a fit of anger, she felt like the world was a wonderful place.
But there were also times she genuinely needed him. For instance...
"Ethan Kingsley, could you buy me a pretty notebook? I want to keep a diary to record the baby’s growth after they’re born."
For once, Ethan Kingsley didn’t sound angry. He asked, "You know how to write?"
Ivy Tanner retorted, "I’m very smart, you know. Are you going to buy it or not?"
"I’ll have someone send one over in a bit. Is one notebook enough?"
"Yes, that’s enough!"
"Hanging up."
CLICK...
’Unfortunately, he was the one who answered every single time. How could Corinne Linden be so useless? She couldn’t even get her hands on her own fiancé’s phone. Utterly useless.’
In truth, while the things she said over the phone were all trivial, they reflected her genuine feelings.
She didn’t know why, but for the past few days, she’d been getting occasional sharp pains in her lower abdomen. Sometimes they would last for half a minute, making her think she was about to go into labor.
Ethan Kingsley thought her due date was two months away, but it was actually sooner. The due date she had announced publicly was already pushed back from the real one.
’Come to think of it, Claire Sinclair’s due date must be right around the corner, right?’
’And what terrible timing—the election was almost here too.’
