I Received System to Become Dragonborn
Chapter 1483: Sharing
Billy and Adrien naturally understood that Erend had not told them everything about his recent journey. Neither of them felt offended or believed that they deserved to know every secret he carried. Instead, they understood better than most people that whatever Erend was facing had long since surpassed their capabilities.
After all, they had traveled and fought alongside him before.
Both of them had accompanied Erend through countless dangerous situations and had experienced true Magic battles firsthand. They had found themselves standing at death’s door during their adventures together more than once.
Those experiences had undoubtedly made them far stronger than ordinary humans and far more knowledgeable about the reality of combat involving Magic and world-ending threats.
Even so, both of them had reached the same conclusion long ago.
Unless Erend personally asked for their assistance, neither of them intended to insist on accompanying him.
If Erend chose not to ask for their help, then the danger he was facing was almost certainly beyond what they could reasonably handle. They trusted his judgment completely and were more than willing to remain behind if that was what the situation required.
Tonight was no different.
Erend briefly explained some of the things that had happened during his journey. He told them that he had encountered not one but two cosmic beings whose very existence exceeded the common understanding of power.
He spoke about meeting another Dragonborn and how the four of them had fought together against one of those entities.
But even with four Dragonborn fighting side by side, victory had never been guaranteed. The battle had been unimaginably dangerous and had nearly ended in their defeat.
As they listened to his explanation, Billy and Adrien could not help but feel a chill running down their spines. Neither of them realized that their faces had become so pale.
What Erend described sounded almost impossible.
They knew better than most people how powerful a Dragonborn was. Erend alone had already reached a level of strength that humanity could barely comprehend. To hear that four Dragonborns had nearly lost against a single enemy was simply absurd.
It forced them to realize that the scale of the enemies Erend now faced was something they could not even properly imagine.
Erend looked at their expressions and smiled bitterly. He had not even told them the worst part yet. The Black Rage.
If they learned that the Dragonborn possessed a power capable of consuming their emotions and potentially turning them into something extremely dangerous, what would they feel? Fear? Worry? Distrust?
For now Erend felt that it would be better to keep that information to himself until he found a way to completely understand and control it.
"Oh my God..." Billy said with a somewhat absent expression. "I can’t even imagine it. Thank God I didn’t go with you."
"That’s right," Adrien said while shaking his head. "Compared to what you’ve experienced, everything we’ve been dealing with here is nothing."
Erend smiled faintly before nodding his head. "Well, yeah. I also prefer that neither of you came with me."
The three of them fell silent for several moments afterward.
Unconsciously, both Billy and Adrien began imagining the worst possible outcomes if they had accompanied Erend on his latest journey.
Having experienced numerous Magic battles themselves, their imagination was more vivid than that of ordinary people. They understood just how quickly a single mistake could lead to death during combat against powerful enemies.
If four Dragonborn had nearly lost, then their presence would have changed absolutely nothing.
Eventually, they pushed such thoughts aside and spent the remainder of the evening talking about lighter subjects. Adrien and Billy now shared stories about their duty as a special operation unit in this world. They laughed occasionally, and simply enjoyed each other’s company after weeks of separation.
Before long, the night grew late.
Billy and Adrien finally stood up and returned to their respective homes located not far from Erend’s own house.
The backyard became quiet once more.
However, Erend did not return to his bedroom. Instead, he remained seated beneath the large tree while enjoying the cool night breeze.
Then suddenly, a familiar mechanical voice echoed inside his mind.
It belonged to Veyrun.
Erend could not help but feel slightly surprised. Usually, he was the one initiating conversations with the System Administrator. It was rare for Veyrun to contact him first without any prior warning.
Without hesitation, Erend mentally accepted the incoming communication.
"What’s wrong?" Erend asked.
"Nothing is wrong. There is no need for concern," Veyrun replied in his usual mechanical voice. "I am merely here to deliver new information that I obtained after conducting extensive research."
Erend frowned slightly.
Anything important enough for Veyrun to bring up personally was rarely trivial. The System Administrator spent an incomprehensible amount of time analyzing information hidden throughout countless worlds. If he considered something worth mentioning, then it was undoubtedly important.
"Okay. I’m listening."
"What I discovered may prove useful for all of you," Veyrun continued. "It concerns the ancient history of the Dragonborn that has been preserved at the far reaches of a distant world. There appears to be a legacy left behind by previous Dragonborns that can still be found."
Erend’s eyes widened slightly upon hearing those words.
The ancient history of the Dragonborn?
Until now, none of them truly knew where the Dragonborn originated from or whether others had existed long before their generation. The possibility that an ancient legacy still remained somewhere in the universe was beyond valuable.
"Let’s meet," Erend immediately said.
Without wasting another second, Erend sat properly in his chair again and slowly closed his eyes before diving into his subconsciousness.
He meets Veyrun in the same vast white room filled with black checkers. Veyrun stood with his form which was made fully of light.
"What is it?" Erend asked. He walked closer to Veyrun, his expression eager.
"After the information that I got, I have found several places with vague mention of Dragonborn presence. You four must visit this worlds as soon as possible."
