"We’re finally about to reach our destination. My ass is about to be rubbed raw from all this riding," said the young man in luxurious clothes.

The young man in luxurious clothes was named Wang Fugui. His family was in business, making them quite wealthy. However, his father restricted his spending and wouldn’t let him squander money.

The reason he was now leading his guards out of the city to hunt for treasure at Bibo Lake was simple: he had gone drinking at the brothel with his friends so often this month that he’d already blown through his allowance.

With his allowance gone so early in the month, he naturally had to find a way to get more money.

Borrowing from his friends was out of the question; they were in no better shape than he was.

Since he couldn’t borrow money, and going home to ask his father would only earn him a scolding instead of cash, he certainly wasn’t going to pass up this sudden opportunity for a windfall.

"Young Master, there’s someone who has been following us..." a slim guard suddenly said.

At these words, Wang Fugui turned to look back, and the other guards followed suit.

Just as the slim guard had said, a person was running at a steady pace forty or fifty meters behind them.

"Are you sure he’s been following us this whole time?" Wang Fugui asked.

"Yes, Young Master. He’s been tailing us for over ten minutes now," the slim guard said earnestly.

Wang Fugui’s merchant father had often told him to be careful if a stranger started following them in the wilderness outside the city, as such people were rarely up to any good.

Letting your guard down could easily get you killed.

"Damn it, this guy’s following us... he’s not planning to ambush us, is he?!"

The guards all frowned, the same thought occurring to them.

Wang Fugui pulled on his reins, bringing his fine steed to a halt. Just then, he saw the man forty or fifty meters away also stop and watch them from a distance.

Lin Li saw the group he was following come to a stop. ’Are these five going to be like that last three-man party,’ he thought, ’and come over to throw some threats my way?’

"Let’s go see what this guy wants," Wang Fugui said to his guards. He then took the lead, urging his mount toward Lin Li.

A moment later, Wang Fugui and his party arrived before Lin Li.

Pulling his mount to a stop, Wang Fugui looked at the young man before him, who appeared to be several years his junior. "Hey," he said in a hostile tone, "what’s your deal?"

Faced with this familiar scene, Lin Li’s response was the same as last time. With a calm expression, he replied, "It’s nothing."

"What do you mean, ’it’s nothing’? You’ve been tailing us this whole time. You’re clearly up to no good."

"I bet you’re just looking for a chance to ambush us and steal our things." Wang Fugui immediately leveled a baseless accusation against Lin Li.

’This guy has a real temper, accusing me right off the bat...’ Seeing that Wang Fugui’s attitude was far worse than the long-haired man’s from before, Lin Li’s own response hardened.

"You should watch what you say. Be careful, or I’ll report you to the magistrate’s office for slander."

Wang Fugui saw that Lin Li was younger than him and figured that even if he was a Cultivator, he couldn’t be that strong.

Plus, the guy was alone. Relying on his numerical advantage, Wang Fugui laughed brazenly. "Hahaha... So what if I did? What are you gonna do about it? Go on, report me to the magistrate’s office!"

"You look decent enough, but I guess it’s true that a filthy mouth can’t speak a single decent word," Lin Li said flatly, watching the mocking, laughing Wang Fugui.

"You..." Struck by Lin Li’s retort in front of his own guards, Wang Fugui felt utterly humiliated. The smile on his face froze, and he flew into a rage, raising his right hand and lashing out at Lin Li with his horsewhip.

Seeing the attack, Lin Li instantly sidestepped. As the whip cracked through empty air, he shot out his right hand like a lightning bolt and snatched it from the air.

"He actually dodged it," the guards murmured, shocked to see Lin Li so easily evade their young master’s surprise attack.

"Let go!" Wang Fugui grunted, trying to yank the whip back with all his might.

But how could his strength possibly compare to Lin Li’s? Even when he put his entire body into it, his face turning beet red, he couldn’t pull the whip back an inch.

"Idiot," Lin Li muttered, then gave a sharp tug with his right hand.

Caught completely off guard in the middle of their tug-of-war, Wang Fugui was yanked right off his horse, face-planting in the dirt.

"Young Master!" the guards cried out in alarm, seeing Wang Fugui get pulled to the ground and covered in dust.

They immediately leaped from their horses to help the fallen Wang Fugui to his feet.

"Kid, you’re dead!" Wang Fugui screamed at Lin Li, his face contorted with rage after being so thoroughly humiliated. He then turned to his guards and barked an order.

"Get him! Take that bastard down!"

"Yes, Young Master," the Guard Captain replied with a nod.

But before the captain could move, the slim guard, eager to prove himself, shouted, "Young Master, just watch! I’ll take down this insolent bastard for you."

Before the words had even left his mouth, the slim guard was already charging forward.

The Guard Captain frowned, slightly annoyed at the man for acting without orders.

’When we get back,’ he thought, ’I’m going to have to teach this guy a lesson. He needs to learn there’s a price to pay for trying to snatch glory without permission.’

"Monkey, just teach him a lesson and capture him! Don’t kill him." Though still furious, Wang Fugui called out the warning when he saw the slim guard charge forward menacingly, even drawing the weapon from his back.

He felt that even though the guy had been rude and humiliated him by making him take a nasty fall, it wasn’t a reason to kill him. Hence the warning.

Lin Li saw Wang Fugui send his guards after him. The first one was charging with a drawn weapon, looking for all the world like he was out for blood.

His eyes narrowed, and he prepared to meet the charge with a devastating counter. But then he heard Wang Fugui’s merciful words and couldn’t help but shoot him a surprised glance.

THUD.

A figure was sent flying backward like a cannonball, crashing heavily to the ground and letting out a pained wail.

"AHHH..."

Wang Fugui and his party had been expecting to see the slim guard teach Lin Li a lesson and beat him until he was on his knees begging for mercy.

They never expected the slim guard to be sent flying with a single blow. It completely defied their expectations.

"Stop dawdling and coming one by one. If you’re going to attack, then come all at once," Lin Li taunted, his expression blank as he looked at the dumbfounded Wang Fugui and his party after kicking the slim guard away.

"Young Master, this guy’s no pushover! You stay back," the Guard Captain said to the stunned Wang Fugui. "Brothers, with me!" He then rallied his companions, and together they charged at Lin Li.

Under the bright sun, a group of tall, burly men ganged up on a single youth.

"AHHH..."

Despite outnumbering him, the guards who should have had the advantage were all beaten to the ground after a brief exchange. Unable to get back up, they could only clutch their injuries and scream in agony.
