I Summon Female Knights
Chapter 85: The Glass Ceiling
The subterranean throne room was vast and quiet, its silence broken only by the low, resonant hum of the Dungeon Core pulsing deep within the castle bedrock.
Raphael remained seated on the dark obsidian throne, his back resting against the cold stone, his long legs stretched out. He had unbuckled his dual adamantine scabbard harness, leaning the paired blades of Vanguard of the Eclipse against the side of the dais.
With a silent thought, he brought up his deep system synchronization interface- the underlying diagnostic grid that mapped how seamlessly his human soul, physical vessel, and spatial core were fused with the Sovereign System. A brilliant array of translucent violet runes expanded across his field of vision.
[SOVEREIGN SYSTEM INTEGRATION MATRIX]
[Host Vessel: Raphael Matthews]
[Domain Anchor: The Throne of Knights System]
[Current Synchronization Level: 199.8%]
[Integration Status: CRITICAL THRESHOLD STAGNATION]
[System Warning: Synchronization locked at 199.8%]
[Phase 2 Continental Core Alignment cannot initiate until 200.0% harmonization is achieved]
---
Raphael leaned forward, his eyes narrowing as he read the numbers hovering in the air: 199.8%.
It was an astounding figure. Standard awakened hunters in the human world, even elite S-Rank guild leaders, rarely achieved a core synchronization above forty or fifty percent with their respective mana affinities. His intense physical conditioning, the brutal restructuring during his Calamity-Tier awakening, the successful conquest of the outer floating drift islands, and the binding of the B++ Tier Abyssal Leviathan had pushed his integration to the absolute precipice of a full double-saturation.
At two hundred percent, the system’s next true phase would unlock. His spatial domain would no longer be limited to localized overwrites; it would begin naturally expanding into Earth’s physical fabric without consuming active mana reserves. Yet, despite the astronomical growth of his core attributes, the decimal remained stubbornly frozen at 199.8%.
"Point two percent," Raphael murmured, his voice echoing softly against the dark gothic arches.
A faint, satisfied smirk touched his lips at how close he was, but it was quickly replaced by sharp, analytical calculation. He flexed his right hand, watching micro-threads of silvery-violet spatial energy dance effortlessly across his knuckles. His mana channels were clear. His physical vessel was in peak condition. His spatial reserve was completely saturated at 275 units.
So what was holding him back? What was acting as the invisible glass ceiling between his current power and absolute two-hundred-percent harmonization?
Was it a physical limitation of his human anatomy? Was his mortal bloodline resisting the complete higher-dimensional overwrite? Or was there an unfulfilled structural requirement within The Iron Spire’s core that he had overlooked?
He closed his eyes, turning his perception inward. He sank his consciousness deep into his own mana core, tracing the dense, hyper-compressed spatial pathways flowing through his chest and nervous system. Every channel ran smoothly, like liquid adamantine through polished glass.
Then, deep within the absolute center of his core... at the microscopic point where his soul anchored to the Sovereign System... he felt it.
It was a strange, cold, and profoundly ancient spatial resonance... a microscopic seal that felt alien, yet hauntingly familiar. It stirred a fleeting shadow of a memory deep within his mind, a lingering sensation from long before his awakening, but no matter how aggressively his mind probed it, the origin remained completely shrouded in mystery. He knew this structure, yet he couldn’t remember where or when he had ever encountered it.
Before he could isolate the frequency to force it open with his spatial mana, the mysterious seal inside his chest gave a faint, imperceptible pulse.
THUD-THUD.
Raphael’s heart slammed violently against his ribs once, and then his perception dissolved. There was no explosive shockwave, no outward leak of mana, and no environmental disturbance. To the outside world, his Sovereign’s Veil remained perfectly intact, compressing his presence to absolute zero. But internally, his consciousness slipped into a deep, silent void.
His eyelids closed naturally, his broad shoulders relaxed against the obsidian seat, and his head leaned back as if he had merely drifted into a quiet, meditative slumber.
...
Down in the lower eastern corridor, Vanessa held the shaft of her newly acquired catalyst staff, the Aegis-Crest of the Void Empress. She walked alongside Head Butler Eldrin and Julian the Systems Analyst, completely unaware of the shift occurring atop the throne dais.
To her, the keep was as serene as ever. The Sovereign’s aura was suppressed as it always was when he rested or contemplated his next move. This was a good practice she would’ve advised him to do at any given time.
She tapped the base of her glowing violet staff against the stone floor, calling a brief assembly near the main grand hall entrance to organize the domain’s operational schedule. Within moments, the newly summoned citizens and military guardians of The Iron Spire gathered in a precise, disciplined line.
Master Eldrin stood impeccably at attention, flanked by the Master Chef, Jeffery, and the two C-Tier maids, Celestina and Vivian. Beside them stood Julian, his fingers already hovering over holographic diagnostic projections. At the rear, the four towering combat guardians- the Heavy Vanguard Knights clad in dark void-iron plate, and the silent silhouette of the Shadow Assassin- remained anchored in rigid martial formation.
Vanessa held her staff vertically before her, her voice ringing with clear, unquestioned authority through the gothic corridors.
"Lord Raphael is currently reflecting upon the next stage of our domain expansion," Vanessa announced smoothly, her violet eyes sweeping over the assembled subjects. "While he remains unbothered on the throne, the management, defense, and surveillance of The Iron Spire rest entirely on our shoulders. We will ensure that every system within this citadel functions at absolute perfection."
Head Butler Eldrin stepped forward with a crisp bow. "The domestic wing is fully organized, Lady Vanessa. The Master Chef has secured our core nourishment reserves, and the living quarters have been prepared. Household logistics will run without a single delay."
Vanessa nodded approvingly before turning her gaze to the thin, sharp-featured technician. "Julian. Report on your integration with the quantum server array."
Julian adjusted his wire-rimmed glasses, flicking his wrist to project a sleek blue holographic display into the air. Streams of encrypted code and live video feeds from Sector 1, Sector 3, and Sector 9 scrolled rapidly across the space.
"The intelligence grid integration is operating smoothly, Lady Vanessa," Julian reported concisely. "I have tapped into Jiston’s municipal transit networks, Bureau emergency frequencies, and the public news channels. Vanguard Coalition has officially declared bankruptcy following the ALT-5 heist, and Apex Guild has deployed forty A-Rank and B-Rank contractors to seize Vanguard’s outer manufacturing facilities in Sector 4."
"And the Bureau’s movements?" Vanessa asked coldly.
"Captain Vale has placed Sector 1 under strict martial curfew," Julian replied, zooming in on a live feed of Bureau tactical cruisers patrolling wet granite streets in the rain. "Officer Elena has been assigned to lead an independent task force targeting the ’Unknown Wanderer.’ However, her team has zero viable leads. They are currently analyzing empty spatial signatures in Sector 9."
"Keep monitoring them," Vanessa commanded. "If any corporate strike team or Bureau squad strays within five miles of our outer rift coordinates, alert the gatehouse immediately."
"Understood," Julian bowed, minimizing the holographic feeds with a swift gesture.
Vanessa turned her attention to the armored titans standing at the rear. The three Heavy Vanguard Knights stood like iron monoliths, their pale-blue faceplate flames burning steadily, while the Shadow Assassin remained merged with the shadows of the stone pillars.
"Guardians," Vanessa commanded, raising her catalyst staff. "You have your orders. Knights, deploy to the forward gatehouse and establish a phalanx perimeter at the primary bridge. Assassin, slip beyond the ward line into the outer drift islands. Coordinate with the Abyssal Leviathan in the void sea to hunt any wild rift entities that drift near our borders."
The lead Heavy Knight slammed his gauntleted fist against his void-iron chest plate with a deafening CLANG.
"By your will, Lady Steward!" the knight grunted. "The phalanx will not fall!"
The Shadow Assassin offered no verbal response; he simply melted backward into the stone pillar’s shadow, vanishing completely from perception without leaving a single trace of mana behind. With their directives assigned, the guardians and citizens bowed once more before dispersing to their designated posts throughout the floating citadel.
Vanessa walked back toward the throne room landing, looking up at Raphael as he sat quietly on his dark throne, looking completely relaxed and unbothered, as though he were simply taking a moment of deep rest after days of intense combat and expansion.
She anchored her staff beside the stairwell, her violet eyes full of quiet, unshakeable devotion.
"Everything is in order, my Sovereign," Vanessa whispered into the quiet hall, completely unaware of the ancient, mysterious seal stirring deep within his core.
