Chapter 81 - 80: Sect Mission
Chapter 81: Chapter 80: Sect Mission
After studying the Spiritual Beast Four Extremes Formation, Yu Changsheng stepped out into the Spirit Chicken Garden. He formed a hand seal and summoned his two Spirit Beasts.
The Red Refining Snake and Golden-Winged Eagle appeared and blinked.
Their expressions seemed to ask, ’Master, why’d you call us out so late at night? For a midnight snack?’
"This is serious business. I got a new technique from Elder Wei—a combined attack skill that incorporates an array. Starting today, in addition to your daily training, you’ll also need to practice this technique."
"Memorize your positions. Coordination is crucial for this technique!"
As he spoke, Yu Changsheng used his Divine Sense to transmit the details of the Spiritual Beast Four Extremes Formation from the Jade Pendant to them.
The Red Refining Snake looked utterly baffled, its mind struggling to keep up. Fortunately, its Comprehension was high, and it recovered after absorbing and processing the information a few times.
As for the Golden-Winged Eagle, it was even worse off. Its expression was vacant and its eyes were lifeless, like an eagle that had lost all its dreams.
"It’s alright. I know it’s difficult to grasp its complexities in a single night, but we can start small and build up gradually. We’ll master it within a month."
Yu Changsheng said patiently.
The Red Refining Snake’s jaw dropped, its expression seeming to ask.
’Master, are you serious about one month?’
’I’m not sure we could even do it in a year!’
Nearby, the Golden-Winged Eagle had already collapsed. This was the greatest challenge it had ever faced in its entire eagle life, and the first time its efforts had made it want to quit.
Of course, the Golden-Winged Eagle’s attitude was still good. Though discouraged at first, it quickly recovered, stood tall, and firmed its gaze.
"SKRAW!"
’I’ll work hard, work hard! If my Comprehension is poor, I’ll just have to work harder to learn.’
’If I can’t learn it in a month, I’ll take a year!’
Yu Changsheng scratched his head and said, "I was just giving a rough estimate."
"Let’s start tonight. We’ll begin with the Red Refining Snake. Gather your Demon Power at the Fire position. Golden-Winged Eagle, don’t move around. You need to stand at the Metal position."
As he was explaining it to the Red Refining Snake, the Golden-Winged Eagle curiously poked its head over. That would never do—it messed up the positions!
Yu Changsheng quickly pushed the Golden-Winged Eagle’s body to the Metal position and said, "Good, right in this spot. You can start gathering your Demon Power too."
"Don’t look at me with your eyes. Use your Spiritual Power, your Perception, to resonate with my guidance."
Yu Changsheng shouted, standing in the center.
’Resonance?’
The Red Refining Snake tilted its head, looking left and right, but couldn’t make heads or tails of it.
The Golden-Winged Eagle, however, stared intently, not missing the slightest movement. Not even a single falling leaf could escape its eyes.
’But resonance? With whom? With Master?’
The two beasts seemed to be stumped, unsure of what "resonance" even meant.
They were bound to Yu Changsheng by a Contract, so they could resonate with him in battle. Without words or commands, a single glance was all it took for them to understand his intentions.
That was a so-called resonance of soul and Divine Sense—one of the benefits of the Contract and the foundation of every Beast Master’s abilities.
But how were a beast and another beast supposed to resonate with each other?!
Seeing the two of them just staring blankly at each other, Yu Changsheng couldn’t help but shout, "Look at me! Don’t look at my physical body—use your perception to see my Divine Sense!"
"My Divine Sense is the core of this array, its very framework!"
The two beasts seemed to grasp the concept, yet found it incredibly difficult to act on.
Yu Changsheng sighed and began explaining it to them again.
「The next day.」
Yu Changsheng had talked himself hoarse, but the Red Refining Snake and the Golden-Winged Eagle still showed no reaction.
Of course, they had made *some* progress. At the very least, they were now standing in the correct positions.
’Sigh, can’t I just enhance this Spiritual Beast Four Extremes Formation with my system? A one-time upgrade to make them both understand?’
Yu Changsheng looked helpless. He didn’t know if the problem was him or his Spirit Beasts, but the technique had yet to be registered by his system.
’Perhaps I need to gather all four Spirit Beasts and have them all understand it before it can be registered.’
’Or maybe I just need to use it once for it to register.’
’The worst-case scenario would be that this Combined Attack Skill could never be registered at all. Then I would have to train the hard way with my Spirit Beasts, without any system cheats.’
Exhausted, he fed the Spirit Chickens and then went to the Beast Garden, his life a simple back-and-forth between the two locations.
The Cyan Flower Deer glanced at him curiously. After eating the Sunflower Leaves it was given, it watched him leave with a listless air.
’What in the world happened to make the kid so tired?’
"Looks like you were studying all night. How did it go? Make any headway?"
Elder Wei said with a smile upon seeing him.
Yu Changsheng sighed. "This disciple has been slow. My Spirit Beasts have yet to grasp how to activate this Combined Attack Skill."
"It’s not that easy. If anyone could master it, our Beast Taming Peak would have become the head of the Five Peaks long ago, hahaha!"
Elder Wei laughed good-naturedly. "Take your time. You’re still young, there’s plenty of opportunity."
"Yes."
After leaving the Beast Garden, Yu Changsheng suddenly remembered that he hadn’t completed his sect mission for the month, so he hurried to the Affairs Hall.
An Outer Disciple like him had to complete one sect mission per month, and the daily chores in the Beast Garden didn’t count.
During the Yu Family’s last crisis, he had taken on a mission outside the sect to help a Qi Refining Beast Taming Clan evolve one of their beasts. He had completed it quickly and easily, earning 1,000 Sect Contribution points.
Since then, he had taken a sect mission every month, usually simple ones with high rewards that didn’t require him to leave the sect.
For example, caring for a Foundation Establishment Elder’s Spirit Beast and helping it through a successful birth.
Or for another example, determining which Elixirs were needed for an injured Spirit Beast.
Yu Changsheng could complete these missions easily, and they never took much time.
"Are there any good sect missions left today?"
Yu Changsheng asked the disciple at the Affairs Hall counter.
The disciple looked over his list and smiled. "All the good missions have been taken recently. Why don’t you try this one, Junior Yu? Though, I’m not sure about your strength. This one’s no good if you’re too weak."
Yu Changsheng had successfully and quickly completed several missions through this disciple, so the two had become familiar with each other.
Yu Changsheng took the mission description and read it.
Objective: Travel to the Ten Thousand Beasts Secret Realm and capture one Illusory Bee Wolf. Requirements: its face must be unblemished, all four limbs must be intact, and its life must not be endangered. A low Realm is acceptable. The main purpose is for it to be a Spirit Pet for a junior member of the sect.
The Illusory Bee Wolf is a Wind Demon Beast, but it can also use Illusion Techniques, making it more difficult to deal with than other Demon Beasts. Its tail is especially dangerous, sharp and slender like a bee’s stinger. A strike from it inflicts both illusions and poison.
Furthermore, being wolf-shaped, the Illusory Bee Wolf is very fast. Empowered by its Wind Attribute, it is highly agile. Killing one might be easy, but capturing it completely unharmed would certainly be difficult.
This type of Demon Beast typically has a Realm between the Tier One Sixth Layer and the Eighth Layer. If he were lucky, Yu Changsheng could complete the mission without a hitch.
Yu Changsheng read on. The reward was indeed tempting.
Reward: Ten thousand Sect Contribution points and one Ten Thousand Beasts Secret Realm Ticket.
Entry to the Ten Thousand Beasts Secret Realm always required Sect Contribution points because it was filled with resources raised in captivity by the Beast Taming Peak, making it far safer than the Cloud Mist Mountain Range.
A single entry cost ten thousand points, an amount Yu Changsheng had yet to accumulate.
But now, this single mission offered a reward of ten thousand Sect Contribution points, the Task Token itself granted one free entry, and it came with an additional Ten Thousand Beasts Secret Realm Ticket on top of that.
In total, it was worth thirty thousand points!
Yu Changsheng’s palm tightened into a fist. "I’ll take this mission."
