I Transmigrated as a Peasant, but My System Wanna Make Me a Duke!
Chapter 194 - 185: Star Speaker Among Kin
Chapter 194: Chapter 185: Star Speaker Among Kin
Her consciousness roamed swiftly through the Daylight Space, as if searching for something.
At that moment, however, Lady Anita suddenly felt her consciousness tremble.
An unexpected force ejected her consciousness from the Daylight Space, catching her completely off guard.
Lady Anita’s eyes snapped open, a strange look within them.
"My lady, what did you see?"
Vili asked upon seeing this.
Lady Anita’s face was filled with confusion. She didn’t answer Vili’s question, asking instead, "Among your direct blood relatives, is there also a Star Speaker?"
"Hm?"
Vili was momentarily baffled by Lady Anita’s question.
’A Star Speaker? Among my direct blood relatives?’
Vili didn’t understand why Lady Anita would ask such a strange question.
"Just now, when I was probing for the answer to your question, I was repelled by a similar Star Speaker’s power. It’s an instinctive defense mechanism that Star Speakers have to protect themselves and their families from being scryed upon. Therefore, there must be a Star Speaker among your direct blood relatives."
Lady Anita paused, then added, "However, this Star Speaker seems to have only just awakened. Their power is extremely weak."
’My direct blood relatives... a Star Speaker...’
Lady Anita’s words caught Vili completely off guard.
’There’s another Transcendent so close to me?’
’Father Lake? Mother, Mrs. Shaven?’
’It’s basically impossible for those two.’
Aside from the Extraordinary Power of a Knight, which could be attained through training later in life, ninety-nine percent of all other Transcendents awakened their Abilities before the age of thirty.
’In that case...’
’Sopps, Vilia...’
If what Lady Anita said was true, then one of them had to be a Star Speaker.
"Like many with Extraordinary Professions, a Star Speaker might not even realize it themselves when they’ve just awakened."
Seeing the look on Vili’s face, Lady Anita could guess he was completely unprepared for this, so she offered a reminder.
Vili nodded slowly, his eyes still filled with contemplation.
What Lady Anita said made a lot of sense. It was just like Colson; when he first awakened his Ability as a Silent, it took him a long time to realize it.
’Who could it be?’
The faces of Sopps and Vilia floated through Vili’s mind.
"Come, let’s try again."
This unexpected turn of events only deepened Lady Anita’s curiosity about Vili.
The more inscrutable a man was, the more fascinating women found him.
"Again?"
’But it just failed.’
"I was merely caught off guard before. Although there is interference from another Star Speaker’s power, that power is very weak, like a budding sprout. If I’m prepared, I can resist the disturbance."
Lady Anita explained.
"Alright, let’s continue then."
Vili was now genuinely curious about the Star Speaker’s Ability.
The fact that someone in his own family had awakened the Ability of a Star Speaker greatly increased his interest in Star Speakers themselves.
Just as before, the bead of light in Lady Anita’s palm drifted before Vili’s eyes.
"I want to know who my first woman will be."
Vili once again placed his fingertip on the sphere of light, repeating his earlier question.
The corner of Lady Anita’s mouth twitched up again, revealing her snow-white teeth.
’This young man, so full of secrets, seems far more interesting than I imagined.’
The sphere of light at Vili’s fingertip burst, once again dissolving into motes of starlight that flew into Lady Anita’s palm.
Lady Anita closed her eyes again. Before her was an expanse of daylight.
Her consciousness continued to drift through the white space. Soon, the instinctive protective power of the Star Speaker appeared once more.
This time, Lady Anita was prepared.
Her own Star Speaker power easily repelled the weak force.
An obstruction of this level was nothing to Lady Anita, as long as she was consciously guarding against it.
Lady Anita’s consciousness continued to search for traces of Vili’s future in the daylight.
The space was a pure white, seemingly without boundaries.
Time passed slowly, and beads of sweat began to form on Lady Anita’s forehead.
’How can this be?’
Panic began to rise in Lady Anita’s heart. ’I’ve already dealt with that obstructing power, so why can’t I find any fragments of his future...’
Lady Anita felt her Spiritual Power being rapidly overdrawn, her physical strength quickly fading.
’This isn’t right!’
Lady Anita had already clenched her jaw, her body trembling slightly. ’How is this possible! Why isn’t there a single trace? Even if Vili were to die old and alone, I should still be able to find other related fragments of the future. Why is it like this? His future is a complete blank.’
Suddenly, the daylight before Lady Anita’s eyes vanished, and a splitting headache assaulted her.
"Lady Anita!"
Seeing Lady Anita’s body sway, nearly falling from the windowsill, Vili quickly reached out and caught her.
Lady Anita’s soft body leaned directly into Vili’s arms.
Her beautiful hair was soaked with sweat, her face was pale, and she looked completely exhausted.
"What’s wrong?"
This was the first time Vili had seen a Star Speaker after they had used their Ability.
’It seems to have significant aftereffects.’
"It’s nothing..."
Lady Anita looked at Vili with a complicated expression.
In her vision, Vili’s future was a complete blank.
There were three possibilities.
The first was that Lady Anita’s own Ability was insufficient, simply not powerful enough to see through Vili.
But this was unlikely. Vili was just a Senior Knight, while she was a Three-Engraving Star Speaker, making them essentially the same level. A prediction between peers should, at the very least, grasp some key information.
The second possibility was that a more powerful Star Speaker had shrouded Vili with a thicker Power of Destiny to act as interference.
This was the least likely possibility. Judging by Vili’s earlier reaction, he didn’t even know his own relative was a Star Speaker. Combined with his status, it was impossible that a powerful Star Speaker would be shielding the traces of his destiny.
’In that case, there is only the third...’
Lady Anita looked at Vili, her gaze a mixture of contradictory emotions like hesitation and anticipation.
The third possibility: Vili would become an extremely high-level Upper-Ranker.
His every move would affect the fates of thousands upon thousands.
"Lady Anita..." Vili asked tentatively, "What’s the answer to my question?"
"You will naturally find out in the future."
Lady Anita, feeling much of her strength return, sat down alone on the edge of the bed.
She had no intention of telling Vili this secret. In fact, she didn’t want to tell anyone.
The current Vili was like an undiscovered treasure. And she, Lady Anita, was the first person to find the map.
"Hm?"
Vili felt that Lady Anita seemed to be hiding something.
But seeing her condition, he didn’t feel it was right to press her further.
"By the way, my lady, you mentioned earlier that you would grant me any one condition?"
Seeing his chance, Vili tried to change the subject.
"Of course, I will grant it." Lady Anita gave a tired smile, which held a strange sort of beauty. "But I will be the one who decides when to fulfill it."
"Alright..."
Vili knew he’d been played.
"I know what you’re thinking." Lady Anita stood up, draped an arm over Vili’s shoulder, and leaned in close to his ear. "I’m not one for boys who are too young. Perhaps in a year or two, when you’ve matured a bit, we can share some... wonderful experiences."
"You should go." Lady Anita lay back down on the bed, not even taking off her clothes, and pulled the covers over herself. "Good night, Baron Vili."
Vili glanced at the night outside. He felt like he’d been tricked by Kirk. He shrugged helplessly. "Good night, Lady Anita."
He gently opened the door and left the room.
’What a charming little fellow...’
Lady Anita closed her eyes and soon drifted off to sleep.
