Chapter 214: Chapter 196: Colson’s Speaker

Vili’s first reaction was that Wally wanted to eat her.

Ever since Wally had followed him into and out of the Bole Forest, he’d developed a taste for raw meat. From then on, aside from humans and a few particularly ugly and bizarre creatures, Wally was eager to try eating just about any living thing.

This behavior of Wally’s instilled a soul-deep fear in Selena and Kangbi’Er, who lived in the artificial lake.

Even Vili felt that if he hadn’t repeatedly warned him, the two Sea Elves might have already been reduced to fish bones.

Wally shook his head, and his body began to shrink at a speed visible to the naked eye, quickly returning to his plump, miniature form.

He tilted his head up, tugged on Vili’s pant leg, repeated two syllables, and gestured with both paws.

"You mean... Colson?"

Vili frowned.

Although Wally still couldn’t speak human languages, he could make specific sounds to represent certain simple words.

For names like Vili and Vilia, and even for certain foods, Wally could make specific, short yelps.

Thanks to his Ability, Vili could perfectly understand what Wally meant.

’Colson... What does this have to do with Colson?’

Vili was rather confused.

But when he recalled Wally and Colson’s relationship, Vili guessed that Wally probably thought this Bloodline Descendant named Senya could be useful to Colson in some way.

Wally was, after all, Colson’s closest friend.

In all of White Bear Town, only Wally could stomach Colson’s endless chatter. And only Colson, every time he saw Wally, would earnestly address him as "Lord Volibear."

The friendship between the man and the bear had begun back in Fandou Village and continued to grow stronger to this day.

You could say that for Wally, other than the Ferren Family, Colson was his best friend.

’In that case...’

Vili raised his other hand and chopped the back of Senya’s neck.

Senya, who had still been struggling, was knocked unconscious by Vili’s strike.

THUD.

Vili simply tossed Senya to the floor.

Now unconscious, Senya’s inhuman features began to recede.

Soon, she looked like a normal human again.

"Since Colson needs her, you take her to him."

Vili said to Wally, then added, "You’d better stay with Colson. If this assassin wakes up, it’ll be easy for her to take him out."

’This woman must be a Two-Engraving Level Bloodline Descendant, while Colson only has the power of a One-Engraving Silence.’

’If they were to fight, Colson would be the one more likely to get killed.’

Wally stuck out his tongue. His body abruptly grew a bit larger. He grabbed Senya’s clothes in his mouth, leaped out the window, and vanished into the night.

’Colson...’

Vili furrowed his brow.

Colson was one of White Bear Town’s most powerful assets and Vili’s right-hand man.

However, Vili hadn’t spoken much with Colson recently, so he wasn’t aware of what he might need. Wally, on the other hand, was much closer to him and would know.

’Wait a minute...’

Vili seemed to have realized something. ’A Bloodline Descendant...’

’Does Colson intend to cultivate his own Speaker?’

Vili’s brow tightened. ’But he’s only a One-Engraving Silence...’

’Is Colson about to advance to a Two-Engraving Silence?’

Vili shook his head. ’That seems unlikely.’

’After all, it had taken Colson several years just to advance from awakening his Ability to becoming a One-Engraving Silence.’

’It’s been less than a year since Colson advanced to One-Engraving Silence. How could he possibly advance again so quickly?’

’Not everyone was like Vili, able to increase their talent along with their strength.’

’I’ll have to summon Colson tomorrow and ask him about this...’

Although he felt the chances of advancement were slim, Vili still hoped Colson could pull off a miracle.

After all, he himself was quite an oddity—the most talkative Silent in history.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!

The slow-reacting Personal Guards had only just now arrived.

They were almost always late to the scene.

In truth, they couldn’t be blamed. They were ordinary humans, so it was perfectly normal for them to have been unable to detect Abel and Senya’s infiltration.

"Lord Baron..."

A flustered expression appeared on the face of the Personal Guard’s captain.

Looking at the pool of blood on the floor, he guessed that the Lord Baron had dispatched an assassin.

He panicked. This was a dereliction of his duty.

He braced himself for the Lord Baron’s punishment, but Vili didn’t seem to mind the issue.

"Clean this up..."

Vili said simply, without any harsh reprimand.

Vili’s energy was now more focused on how to defend against the next assassin’s surprise attack.

In Vili’s mind, the people in the Wata Duchy who hated his guts wouldn’t just let the matter drop.

’Perhaps there will be a second wave of assassinations... and a third...’

’I don’t know how much patience those people have. If they keep sending riffraff to harass me, I really will be annoyed to death.’

’But I have to get stronger, faster...’

Vili thought to himself, ’What if they get serious and send a higher-Level assassin after me? That could be trouble...’

However, Vili also knew this was unlikely. Experts at the Great Knight Level were an extremely precious resource. Generally speaking, unless the Wata Duchy went completely mad, it wouldn’t keep sending masters of this level to their deaths. As for beings of an even higher level, they would never target him; it would be a waste of their talent.
