Chapter 538: Chapter 538: Death

However, before the Four Non-Beings could land, Qiao Yi leaped even higher. As his heavy fist descended, the creature dodged, narrowly avoiding the attack.

Qiao Xixi, who had been watching this scene unfold, let out a breath. She had almost thought her father was going to be hurt.

But there were simply too many of the behemoths. While her father and the others could hold them off, the beastmen of Beast King City could not.

In just a few moments, several beastmen had died beneath the sharp fangs of the Four Non-Beings.

Yun Ji appeared at Qiao Xixi’s side. "Xixi, use Thunder Attraction," he said.

Qiao Xixi glanced at the sky. She had been thinking the same thing.

"Alright."

Jin Wei looked up at Qiao Xixi and Yun Ji in the sky. They were too far away for him to clearly make out who was beside Qiao Xixi.

Just as Jin Wei was distracted, he saw Jin Ling about to cut a path right to him. Alarmed, Jin Wei shouted, "Fall back! Fall back!"

The elephant beast retreated rapidly while two Four Non-Beings rushed forward to shield Jin Wei.

Jin Ling shot Jin Wei a cold glare before turning to face the oncoming Four Non-Beings.

"Jin Ling, it doesn’t matter what you do! Today, this place will be your grave!"

The dark clouds hung overhead like a suffocating lid.

Qiao Xixi had already flown up beneath the gloomy clouds. Her hands formed a seal as she silently chanted an incantation.

Suddenly, a fierce gust of wind swept by, whipping up her beast-hide skirt. In the suffocating darkness, the snow-white hide was the only point of brilliant light.

Her eyes burned with fiery determination. As the incantation spilled from her lips, she stretched out a slender finger and pointed it at the sky. The Spiritual Power gathering at her fingertip transformed into a brilliant ribbon of light that coiled around her arm, stretching upward until it reached the dark clouds.

Arcs of lightning began to flicker across the dark clouds overhead.

Even the beastmen locked in brutal combat were drawn to this change in the sky.

The piercing screams and cries of those fleeing the behemoths stabbed violently at Qiao Xixi’s eardrums.

She closed her eyes. When she opened them again, her arm shot out, pointing at a Four Non-Beings charging toward the beastmen.

"Lightning Strike."

Streaks of lightning flashed rapidly within the dark clouds, and then a bolt shot straight down, striking the Four Non-Beings.

The moment the lightning hit, the Four Non-Beings’ body went rigid. A plume of thick, black smoke rose from it, and its body fell stiffly to the ground in front of several beastmen.

The fleeing beastmen stared at the dead Four Non-Beings with lingering fear, then looked up in disbelief at Qiao Xixi in the sky.

’Is... is that the Beast God? She can make lightning strike these monsters!’

Qiao Xixi’s gaze swept over the behemoths. Once she had her target, she raised her hand again.

"Lightning Strike."

Lightning struck again, precisely hitting another of the creatures—a Three Unlikes.

Jin Wei’s eyes widened in disbelief.

"What... what kind of ability is that? How can a female possess such power!"

Jin Wei had spent his entire life yearning for immense power. He had sacrificed nearly everything for it, yet his wish was never granted.

And now, he was seeing everything he ever wanted in a mere female.

’How could he not be filled with hatred!’

"Hate it, do you? But what good does that do?"

Startled, Jin Wei turned his head just in time to feel Jin Ling’s sharp claws land on his neck.

Jin Wei hadn’t expected Jin Ling to break through the encirclement and reach him in such a short time.

He looked at Jin Ling with a complicated expression. The Jin Ling before him now was the ideal male cub he had always envisioned. And yet, that cub now had his claws at his throat, ready to take his life.

"Jin Ling, I am your father beast! Don’t you forget, without me, you wouldn’t exist!"

Jin Ling’s gilded, golden tiger eyes narrowed into slits, the pupils devoid of any warmth.

Seeing that Jin Ling was unmoved, Jin Wei hurriedly added, "Don’t you want to know where your mother is?"

Jin Ling faltered.

Jin Wei sensed he had struck a nerve. "I know you were always fondest of your mother. She’s still alive. Just let me go, and I’ll take you to her right now... GAH..."

Jin Wei’s pupils contracted violently. His eyes widened in disbelief, reflecting the icy coldness in Jin Ling’s.

"I told you. The Jin Ling of Tiger Beast City is long dead."

’Therefore, nothing in Tiger Beast City had anything to do with him anymore.’

Blood gushed from Jin Wei’s neck. Even in death, he did not close his eyes, his expression one of bitter unwillingness.

The stench of blood saturated the mountain forest outside the city gates.

And so it continued, until the thick, gloomy clouds in the sky finally dispersed.

Qiao Xixi called down one last lightning strike, killing the final Four Non-Beings. Exhausted, her body plummeted from the sky.

But before she could hit the ground, Yun Ji had already caught her in his arms.

Qiao Xixi nestled into his embrace. "Why is using lightning so exhausting?"

’I feel like I’ve been completely drained.’

"Lightning Strikes take the greatest toll on the body, but you’ll be fine after some sleep."

Yun Ji landed steadily on the ground, holding Qiao Xixi.

Jin Wei was dead, and the behemoths had all been slain. The remaining beastman soldiers fighting for Jin Wei saw that the tide had turned against them and surrendered one by one, unwilling to fight any longer.

’If they could kill that many behemoths, what chance did we stand?’

Xijing and Jin Ling immediately walked over to Yun Ji to ask about Qiao Xixi’s condition.

Yun Ji glanced at Qiao Xixi, who could barely keep her eyes open in his arms. "It’s nothing serious," he said. "She’s just exhausted."

The two of them relaxed upon hearing this.

"Brother! Brother!"

Jin Ling turned at the sound of the voice. A male beastman who bore a slight resemblance to him, but with a completely different air about him, was running over.

His beast-hide clothes were stained with blood; it was impossible to tell if it was his own or someone else’s.

Jin Yao strode up to Jin Ling, his eyes filled with unconcealable excitement. But then, thinking of something, he stopped a few paces away, looking at Jin Ling with some apprehension.

Jin Ling’s gaze quickly swept over him, and a faint smile touched his lips. "Jin Yao, you’ve grown up."

Hearing his brother’s still-gentle voice, the apprehension on Jin Yao’s face vanished.

"Brother, I’d heard you were still alive and have been trying to find out where you were. I never thought I’d see you here today."

Jin Ling nodded. "We can talk later. First, let’s get the injured beastmen into the city for treatment."

"Yes, I’ve already given the orders. I’ll go check on them now."

"Go."

Xijing walked over, watching Jin Yao’s departing figure before glancing at Jin Ling.

"Your brother?"

Jin Ling gave a quiet grunt of affirmation.

Xijing was puzzled. He hadn’t noticed anything unusual about the young male. Given Jin Wei’s habit of turning on every one of his own cubs, it was strange that he would have spared one.

But since Jin Ling didn’t elaborate, Xijing didn’t ask. It was, after all, a personal matter.

What Xijing didn’t know was that while he didn’t ask, Qiao Xixi certainly wanted to listen.

’She wasn’t actually asleep, just too exhausted to open her eyes. She was forcing herself to hang on to her last shred of consciousness to listen to their conversation, but of course, no one brought up that key piece of information...’
