Chapter 187: Chapter 156: Flustered Jiang Xueli (Part 2)

"I’ll pick backup singers for you in advance. It’ll promote you and the company at the same time. Essentially, you won’t be doing group performances. You’ll still be on a solo track."

Jiang Xueli leaned back in the taxi. "Oh, I see. When I think of a group, I think of something like a girl group."

Lin Zhengran shook his head.

"You’re overthinking it. A girl group is a professional team. They perform basically all their songs as a group, but that requires all the singers to be at the same level. The skill gap between you and the other artists at our company is too wide. That path isn’t an option, and I don’t plan on sending you down it anyway."

Jiang Xueli was starting to understand. "Then what about the other girl groups at our company?"

Lin Zhengran said, "They *are* professional teams, but you’re a very special exception. You’re not like them."

Jiang Xueli smiled. "Anyway, I’ll just do whatever Zhengran tells me to do." She puffed out her chest and patted it. "No matter what kind of performance, I won’t mess up."

Lin Zhengran asked, "By the way, after I take you for a haircut, are you planning on going back to the dorm or going home?"

Jiang Xueli thought for a moment. "Back to the dorm. It’ll be too late if I go home. Mom and Dad have to work tomorrow even though it’s the weekend, so I shouldn’t bother them."

"Alright, either works."

Jiang Xueli took out her phone and glanced at the time. It was still early. She remembered the girls’ dorm locked its doors at ten on weekdays and eleven on weekends.

’Getting a haircut and then heading back should be fine.’

So the two of them found a restaurant and had dinner first.

Afterward, they headed straight for a nearby barbershop.

But since it was the weekend, the barbershops were a bit crowded.

Every shop they went into was packed with young people. Left with no other choice, they stopped looking and just sat down in one of them to wait.

She watched the stylists, SNIP, SNIP, SNIP, as they cut the customers’ hair.

Jiang Xueli touched her own pigtails, which reached her butt when she was sitting down. After waiting for nearly an hour, it was almost her turn.

"Zhengran, I don’t have to get it cut too short, right?" She was afraid if she said "too short," the stylist might just shear everything off.

’Without my pigtails, would I even be Jiang Xueli anymore? Of course not.’

’They’re my trademark! My very essence.’

Lin Zhengran: "Just to your waist is fine."

"My waist?"

Lin Zhengran touched the small of Jiang Xueli’s back. "Right here."

Who would have thought that with Lin Zhengran’s light touch, Jiang Xueli would shudder, and she herself would suddenly hear a faint SNAP from behind her.

Something seemed to have broken from his touch, a clasp shattering.

Mortified, Jiang Xueli quickly crossed her arms over her chest, her face flushing as she bent over.

Fortunately, Jiang Xueli was sitting by the wall, perfectly blocked from view by Lin Zhengran. Besides, the barbershop was so noisy and chaotic that no one paid them any mind.

Seeing her suddenly bend over, Lin Zhengran asked curiously, "What’s wrong?"

Jiang Xueli bit her lip, stunned and bewildered. ’My... how did it break?’

’What am I going to do? We’re out in public!’

"Lili?" Lin Zhengran called out again. This time, he looked at Jiang Xueli’s back and suddenly noticed that, as she was bent over, the outline of a clasp was missing from under her clothes.

Lin Zhengran realized what had happened and blinked.

Just then, Jiang Xueli said, "Zhen... Zhengran, can you come outside with me for a second? There are too many people here. Please, just come outside with me."

So, Lin Zhengran took off his jacket and handed it to Jiang Xueli.

"Put it on and zip it up."

Jiang Xueli, her little face flushed, turned to look at Lin Zhengran. It wasn’t as if she wasn’t already wearing a jacket—it was winter, after all.

But she was still shy, hiding behind Lin Zhengran as she took his jacket and mumbled a thank you.

She quickly put it on and pulled up the zipper.

Lin Zhengran’s jacket was very big on her, fitting quite loosely. Plus, she was already wearing a jacket of her own.

So when she stood up, you couldn’t tell anything was amiss.

But it was still awkward.

Lin Zhengran led her out of the barbershop.

They found a deserted corner in the night.

Jiang Xueli hugged her chest again and squatted down, so shy and embarrassed she didn’t know what to say. "It... it broke... What do I do?"

This was a first for Lin Zhengran. "Something like this can actually happen?"

"I didn’t think something like this could happen either..." Jiang Xueli said, embarrassed, as she peeked up at Lin Zhengran. "By the way, Zhengran, how did you know just now?"

"I saw it from behind. When you bent over and hugged your chest, the clasp on your back was gone. I just guessed that’s what happened."

Jiang Xueli’s face turned red as she bit her lip. "Why do you have to notice everything? And don’t just say it out loud!"

"Didn’t you just ask me?"

Jiang Xueli fell silent.

’Fine, look all you want,’ she thought. ’After all, Zhengran is my boyfriend.’

After a moment, she whispered, "Is there an underwear store around here? I wasn’t paying attention when we were walking over. I need to go buy a new one."

Lin Zhengran took out his phone to search. "Looks like there’s one nearby. I’ll go buy it for you."

The underwear store was a bit far from where they were, and Lin Zhengran was worried this girl wouldn’t be able to walk that far.

"Huh?" She was panicking. "You’re going to buy it for me? You’re buying me underwear?"

Lin Zhengran said, "Well, what other choice is there?" He looked at his phone.

"The store is pretty far from here, at least one intersection away. If I don’t go buy it for you, are you going to walk all that way in your current state? Even if other people can’t tell, you’d feel really awkward, right?"

Jiang Xueli didn’t know how to explain. "That’s true, but... but that’s... u-u-u-underwear! A girl’s underwear!"

Her face grew redder and redder as she stammered and stuttered.

Lin Zhengran said, "I know it’s underwear. So what?"
