I'm Trapped in the Block
Chapter 617 - 614: Sound Offensive
Chapter 617: Chapter 614: Sound Offensive
The Tree Cave Clan ultimately decided to go ahead with the plan.
They scattered, hiding inside the tree caves. There were many ear flies, and they each chose an area to wait for the arrival of the Feeding Birds of Prey.
Soon, the raucous flock of Feeding Birds of Prey arrived above the forest. Tens of thousands of them dove madly into the trees, hunting down any creature that couldn’t escape in time.
Powerful beasts, tiny insects, flying birds, and burrowing vermin... all became their targets.
Meanwhile, the ear flies in the tree caves began to mimic the calls of the Feeding Birds of Prey.
These instigating calls quickly took effect. The Feeding Birds of Prey, constantly hearing what they thought were their own companions provoking them, abandoned their prey and turned on each other.
They didn’t care where the sounds came from. As long as they felt irritated, they would attack indiscriminately.
Soon, brawls of various sizes among the Feeding Birds of Prey erupted throughout the forest.
These Feeding Birds of Prey held nothing back in their fights. In fact, they used their most vicious attacks against their own kind, grappling madly while covered in blood until their opponent was completely incapacitated.
They didn’t care for fair duels. Ganging up, sneak attacks, striking at vitals... they were born to kill, causing their numbers in the forest to decline rapidly.
The sounds of slaughter filled the air, and the ear flies hiding in the tree caves finally experienced the terror of the Feeding Birds of Prey firsthand.
The sound of tearing skin, the wet thud of falling flesh, the agonizing wails... These sounds made the ear flies tremble, and the calls they produced became slightly distorted.
But most of the ear flies persevered. They continued to fan the flames, making the brawl among the Feeding Birds of Prey even more intense and bloody.
Before long, victors had emerged from the brawls in each area.
Most of these victors were heavily wounded. Some even dropped dead moments after their triumph. The ear flies realized it was time for the second phase: they had to lure these victorious Feeding Birds of Prey together to continue the fighting.
So, they made provocative calls, luring the Feeding Birds of Prey toward a designated area.
They had to fly out of the tree caves and face these blood-crazed Feeding Birds of Prey themselves.
These victors didn’t care if the provocative call came from one of their own or an ear fly. With a sharp screech, they charged toward the source of the sound.
They were the champions of the brawl, stronger and fiercer than any other Feeding Bird of Prey. Now, reeking of blood, their feathers bristled and muscles tensed, they were spoiling for a fight.
They showed the weak ear flies no mercy, giving chase with a single flap of their wings.
Their blood-soaked wings stirred a fierce gust as they closed in for the kill in an instant.
The ear flies were not fast. Against an ordinary Feeding Bird of Prey, they could dodge, weave around trees, and duck into holes, buying themselves some time. But how could they possibly be a match for these blood-crazed, battle-hungry champions?
The moment an ear fly made a provocative call, it was instantly targeted. Before it had a chance to flee, sharp beaks and talons were upon it.
’It’s over.’
In their final moments, the ear flies worried that their failure to complete the mission would drag down their comrades.
A moment later, the thought was cut short as the vicious Feeding Bird of Prey tore them to shreds.
The agitated Feeding Bird of Prey scorned even the ear fly’s corpse, turning to attack other living things instead...
A mournful buzzing echoed through the forest.
The ear flies’ plan had been successful, but they had neglected the massive disparity in strength.
They had been in hiding for so long that they had misjudged the true ferocity of the Feeding Birds of Prey.
The forest was too open. In such terrain, the Feeding Birds of Prey didn’t need any special tactics; they simply chased them down and killed them.
The idea of stalling for time to lure the Feeding Birds of Prey together was nothing more than a pipe dream.
The ear flies suffered a crushing defeat. The ones tasked with luring the Feeding Birds of Prey were all slaughtered, leaving only the newborns and young ear flies who had been kept in the rear due to their inexperience.
Hearing the mournful cries of their kin from the forest, they knew the ear flies had lost.
They had killed many Feeding Birds of Prey, but they were no match for the survivors. The gap in strength was an insurmountable chasm. All they could do was run.
’Run.’
The remaining ear flies scattered, fleeing for their lives. The rest of the plan was abandoned.
Rivers of blood flowed through the devastated forest, but the ear flies could only flee farther and farther, until the sounds of slaughter and screams no longer echoed in their ears.
"Less than one in ten of the entire Tree Cave Clan survived. Even the newborns died during the escape, unable to endure the cacophony. I just kept running and running, not daring to stop until I couldn’t hear a thing..."
As the survivor from the Tree Cave Clan spoke, its voice trembled. Its buzzing grew fainter and fainter, until it was barely audible.
The depths of the grotto fell silent once more.
The Guard said no more. The Great Clan Leader also hovered silently in the air, seemingly lost in thought.
"So, the Feeding Birds of Prey aren’t invincible. We’ve already culled their flock, and many of the survivors are heavily wounded. It will take them a long time to recover their numbers."
"We failed, but our failure wasn’t meaningless. It’s just as the clan leader said..."
Hearing this, the Great Clan Leader was silent for a moment before asking, "Is the clan leader of the Tree Cave Clan still alive?"
"I don’t know. They took a group of Guards and pioneers to the very front lines. Now... their chances don’t look good..."
"And your other companions?"
"They probably escaped somewhere else. It’s just the two of us here." The survivor drifted over and nudged Mo Ling.
The Great Clan Leader hovered silently, its thoughts unreadable. After a long while, it asked softly:
"Did you... learn the language of the Feeding Birds of Prey?"
"I did... I remember it very clearly."
The Great Clan Leader acknowledged this, then said to the Guard, "Go and gather all our kin. We are going to learn the language of the Feeding Birds of Prey."
The Guard froze for a second. "Great Clan Leader, you intend to..."
"Say no more," the Great Clan Leader interrupted. "Just do as I say."
The Guard trembled, then replied, "Understood."
It quickly flew off to gather the other ear flies.
Listening to their exchange, the survivor was in disbelief. "Great Clan Leader, why do you want to learn the language of the Feeding Birds of Prey?"
"To continue the plan," the Great Clan Leader answered coolly.
"The plan?" The survivor was confused. "But didn’t the plan fail?"
"No. The plan is still in progress..."
