Chapter 618: Chapter 615: A Plan That Cannot Fail

Soon, the Guard had gathered all the ear flies in the depths of the cave.

The Great Clan Leader didn’t waste any time and flew directly into the center of the assembled ear flies.

"The Feeding Birds of Prey have reached the forest. They may arrive at the coast very soon..." The Great Clan Leader wasted no time in telling the ear flies the news about the flock.

The moment it spoke, the ear flies erupted into a panicked clamor. They immediately began discussing how to flee, where to run, and even started planning out their routes.

But the Great Clan Leader wasn’t anxious. It simply quieted the crowd, then slowly recounted what the Tree Cave Clan had done.

"The Tree Cave Clan found a way to fight back against the Feeding Birds of Prey, but their capabilities are limited, not enough to see the plan through to the end."

"Now, the next step of this plan falls to us..."

"After devouring all life within the forest, the Feeding Birds of Prey will press onward. The Tree Cave Clan greatly reduced their numbers, and they won’t be able to recover so quickly."

"If they continue to advance, the Feeding Birds of Prey scattered throughout the forest will gather together again. When they arrive at the coast, we can further reduce the flock’s numbers."

"We can lure them into our cave system. Unlike the open forest, the caves will force the flock to cluster together more tightly. Furthermore, the echoes will carry sound much farther, causing it to reverberate throughout the chambers."

"We can hide in more secluded spots, keeping ourselves concealed."

"If they turn on each other inside the caves, the narrow confines will cause their numbers to plummet even faster. Their tight formation will incite an even greater free-for-all."

"We have a unique environmental advantage. Since the Tree Cave Clan couldn’t continue the plan, it’s up to us to take the next step!"

After the Great Clan Leader finished speaking, all the ear flies present fell into silence.

The vast cave fell deathly silent. Water dripped onto hard stone, making a DRIP, DRIP sound. Outside the cave mouth, ocean waves crashed against the shore, their muffled pounding echoing throughout the entire cavern...

The minds of the ear flies reeled. For a long moment, no one responded, and no one objected.

The Great Clan Leader said nothing, just waited quietly.

"Great Clan Leader, please have the survivor from the Tree Cave Clan teach us the language of the Feeding Birds of Prey." The Guard flew forward, breaking the long silence.

Following that, the ear flies drifted forward. Not a single one held back. They all expressed their resolve to the Great Clan Leader.

Listening to their resolute words, the Great Clan Leader struggled to control its emotions.

"We... we might die. Are you truly prepared for that?" When it saw everyone supporting the plan so resolutely, the Great Clan Leader was the one who hesitated...

"We are, Great Clan Leader. Haven’t we always been preparing?"

"We always talk about fighting the Feeding Birds of Prey, but every time we just tuck our tails and run. Time and time again. We hate those things to our very core. We’ve wanted to wipe them out countless times. We’ve been ready for a long time; we just never had the right opportunity."

"Death? What of it? We’re just making the same choice the Tree Cave Clan did."

"We will carry on the voice of the Tree Cave Clan. Even if we die, that voice will be passed to the next clan of ear flies."

"They couldn’t finish their plan, so we will. If we can’t finish it either, we’ll let the next clan of ear flies who hear our voice take it up."

"The voice will never be silenced... One day, we will slaughter those Feeding Birds of Prey until not a single one remains!"

The resolute voices of the ear flies echoed throughout the cave. Like their kin in the Tree Cave Clan, they had suppressed their feelings for far too long.

Hate, the future, the next generation... whatever the reason, they had no cause to flee. The Tree Cave Clan had already torn a hole in the shadow that loomed over all ear flies. Now, all they had to do was widen that hole, rip the shadow to shreds, and part the clouds to see the light of day.

If one clan of ear flies couldn’t do it, the next one would. One day, they would break through the shadow. The ear flies were weak, but they knew that even the tiniest drop of water could eventually wear through the hardest stone.

"DRIP, DRIP..."

The water droplets in the cave had left a deep pit in the rock.

The waves crashing onto the shore had carved a long trench at the mouth of the cave.

"Our friend from the Tree Cave Clan, please teach everyone the language of the Feeding Birds of Prey."

"Alright..."

...

The flock of Feeding Birds of Prey steadily advanced toward the coast.

The forest was not far from the coast to begin with. At the flock’s ravenous pace, the food within the forest would soon be devoured. Their next stop would be the beach.

The ear flies of the Cave Clan worked feverishly, meticulously planning every single step.

They had more time to prepare, and armed with the Tree Cave Clan’s experience, they were also more confident.

The cave environment was perfect for sound propagation. The ear flies only needed to hide in concealed locations and mimic the calls of the Feeding Birds of Prey. The sounds would travel far along the rock walls, meaning the ear flies could guarantee their own safety.

Moreover, thanks to the echoes, the ear flies could pinpoint the flock’s location with great precision and adjust their strategy in real-time based on the chaos of the infighting.

The ear flies weren’t worried about the birds refusing to enter the caves, either. The cave system teemed with life, and these bloodthirsty predators would certainly not pass it up. After hunting the creatures on the beach, they would swarm into the caves all at once.

During this time, Mo Ling flew all over the caves with its survivor companion, constantly testing the acoustics in different locations.

"If we make a sound in this small hole, it will carry into the next cavern..."

"And this spot here isn’t good for hiding. The walls will distort the sound, which might render our calls ineffective against the Feeding Birds of Prey. We can wait for them to fly into that passage back there before we create a disturbance."

"That passage only fits five or six Feeding Birds of Prey at a time. We might not even need to interfere—they’ll start fighting over it themselves. Besides, if a brawl breaks out in such a narrow space, their losses will be devastating."

Mo Ling and the survivor tirelessly analyzed the strategic value of each location in the caves, formulated their plan, and reported back to the Great Clan Leader of the Cave Clan.

The Great Clan Leader assigned some ear flies to familiarize themselves with the key locations while directing others to modify the caves.

The ear flies sealed several entrances, transforming the cave system into a massive cage. They also modified the main entrance to be exceptionally conspicuous, ensuring the passing Feeding Birds of Prey would notice it.

With all arrangements in place, all that remained was to drill relentlessly and await the arrival of the Feeding Birds of Prey...

Throughout the winding caves, the calls of the Feeding Birds of Prey echoed again and again.

The ear flies mimicked the calls they once found so terrifying and repulsive, turning the sounds they hated to their very core into a second nature, crying them out again and again...
