Chapter 564: Chapter 559: Half-Dead, Half-Alive
The White Whale cut through the waves, leaving swiftly.
Everything that happened in the Foggy Area felt like a dream from start to finish. Who could have imagined that a Kun Fish was hidden within the vast expanse of fog?
Such ancient creatures were exceedingly rare. Ning Jiang even suspected that this might be the last one left in the current age.
The fusion of the good and evil wills would be an incredibly long battle, taking anywhere from decades to centuries.
At that moment, beside Ning Jiang, sat a young girl who looked to be about twelve or thirteen. Dressed in golden robes, she had two small, adorable horns on her head that shone like crystalline jade. It was the recently awakened Little Dragon Girl.
"The Dragon God Celestial Palace was destroyed?"
The Little Dragon Girl sat there in a daze, her eyes filled with disbelief.
A moment ago, the two had spoken, and the Little Dragon Girl had learned the terrible news about the Dragon God Celestial Palace from Ning Jiang. She had been hunted by the Other Shore for some time and had been completely unaware of what had happened.
Upon hearing such news, she felt the world spin around her, as if it were all a dream.
A power as mighty as the Dragon God Celestial Palace, the overlord that had dominated the East Sea for thousands of years, had actually been destroyed. It was something she had never imagined.
"What about Bai Yuyun? How is she?" the Little Dragon Girl asked anxiously. She had spent all her time in the White Dragon Hall and was very close to Bai Yuyun.
"She was being hunted, so her current status is unknown, but I don’t believe she’s in any real danger," Ning Jiang said.
He was confident because Golden Cicada was with Bai Yuyun. Although Golden Cicada was now just a remnant soul, he was a Celestial King, after all. He was bound to have a few tricks up his sleeve.
"The Other Shore... those damned bastards!"
The Little Dragon Girl clenched her fists, grinding her teeth.
The Dragon God Celestial Palace was her home, and now that the Other Shore had destroyed it, she was naturally filled with immense hatred.
But along with her rage, she felt an overwhelming sense of powerlessness. What could she do in a situation like this? Although she was a prodigy on the Hidden Dragon List, her power had not yet matured. It wasn’t nearly enough to control the situation.
The Chaos Alliance and the Other Shore now held firm control over the East Sea. As a survivor of the Dragon God Celestial Palace, there was simply no place for her there.
’Maybe this Foggy Area is actually a safe place after all?’
The Little Dragon Girl gave a bitter laugh. A prodigy like her was usually incredibly strong-willed and would never succumb to negative emotions. Even when she was being hunted by the Other Shore and had fled into the Foggy Area, she had remained convinced she would make it out alive.
But now, she couldn’t help the desolation welling up in her heart.
"There’s always a way out. No matter the situation, there’s always a sliver of a chance. As long as you’re alive, there’s hope," Ning Jiang said, glancing at the Little Dragon Girl.
"And where is that hope?" the Little Dragon Girl asked.
She looked into Ning Jiang’s eyes—eyes unlike any she had ever seen. They were as deep as the starry sky, yet held a lofty, celestial air, as if looking down from the heavens.
"Do you know what the Chaos Alliance and the Other Shore are most desperate for right now?" Ning Jiang posed.
The Little Dragon Girl frowned at his words. On the surface, both the Chaos Alliance and the Other Shore were desperate to annihilate the remnants of the Dragon God Celestial Palace—to pull the problem out by the roots and eliminate every last survivor. But for Ning Jiang to ask, the answer clearly wasn’t that simple.
Seeing the thoughtful expression on her face, Ning Jiang smiled and reminded her, "Don’t forget who the true pillar of the Dragon God Celestial Palace is."
"The Undying Celestial King!" Realization dawned in her eyes.
"Exactly. The thing the Other Shore and the Chaos Alliance are most desperate to do right now is find the Undying Celestial King. Although it’s said that he has likely fallen, as long as they don’t see a body, neither of the two great powers can be at ease. Only by confirming the Undying Celestial King is truly dead can they rest easy," Ning Jiang said slowly.
The Undying Celestial King was the Sea-Spanning Purple Gold Beam, the Heaven-Supporting White Jade Pillar. He was the lynchpin of this entire affair.
If he were to appear, both the Other Shore and the Chaos Alliance would be annihilated by his wrath.
But right now, no one knew where the Undying Celestial King was, or whether he was alive or dead.
"Ning Jiang, do you think the Undying Celestial King is still alive?" the Little Dragon Girl asked.
"He should be. But even if he is alive, he must be in terrible condition. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have remained hidden all this time," Ning Jiang said.
’Based on my knowledge, the Undying Celestial King is likely in a state between life and death. For someone who has broken the ten-thousand-year limit, every additional year of life is an immense struggle.’
’Moreover, he suffered severe injuries from his trip to the Ancient Forbidden Land, which only made a bad situation worse.’
’If my guess is correct, the Undying Celestial King has likely found a place to seal all his Power and enter a state of quiescence to suppress his injuries.’
’This method is like a tree in winter. It sheds its leaves, but in reality, it’s pulling all its Energy down into its roots, conserving it to survive the cold.’
’Of course, even with this method, the Undying Celestial King can’t last for long.’
’For one, he has very little of his lifespan left. For another, his injuries can be suppressed temporarily, but not indefinitely.’
"Even if the Undying Celestial King is alive, it’s useless if he can’t take action, isn’t it?"
The Little Dragon Girl knew the Undying Celestial King was the key to everything, but he hadn’t even appeared when the Dragon God Celestial Palace was destroyed. He was even less likely to show himself now.
"If that one item can be found, the Undying Celestial King will be able to emerge once more!" Ning Jiang said slowly.
"What item?"
"The Life Divine Spring!"
Ning Jiang uttered three words. With his intellect, he had long understood that the Undying Celestial King had deliberately auctioned the map to the Life Divine Spring for the sole purpose of getting others to find it for him.
With the Life Divine Spring, the Undying Celestial King could live a second life and reign over the East Sea once more.
Of course, whether it could be found was another question entirely.
Furthermore, even if it was found, actually obtaining it would be next to impossible.
...
Outside the Foggy Area, a few Martial Artists were gathered.
"See that? This is the Foggy Area, a forbidden zone in the Dark Sea Region. Once you go in, you basically can’t get back out. In the future, if you see this place, you must stay far away from it. Be careful not to wander inside."
An old man was gravely warning his young grandson.
"I’ll remember." The young man nodded, his eyes filled with awe.
AWOO.
But just then, the long cry of a White Whale echoed from within the fog. The next moment, a White Whale emerged, with two figures standing on its head.
The old man who saw this was instantly dumbfounded.
"Grandpa, didn’t you say that no one who goes in ever comes out?" the young man asked, astonished. At his words, the old man was speechless, wondering if he was dreaming.
"We’re out."
Ignoring the astonished grandfather and grandson, Ning Jiang and the Little Dragon Girl took to the sky, disappearing over the horizon in the blink of an eye.
