In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL]
Chapter 272: World Reset
Leave this world?
That sentence seemed incomprehensible and unbelievable. For one, why would they? However, Kamille’s heart suddenly started beating erratically.
He did not ask for more information or what it meant and merely listened. Kamille did not want to give it any leverage against him.
With his silence, the other party became anxious and frustrated. Its voice contained urgency, and all the more the rage it always had resurfaced.
[Why don’t you say anything? Both of you should have left this world already if not for me trapping you. Now leave! Leave! Leave!]
The voice became incomprehensible again, and the only word he could understand was the desperate Leave.
Just based on its word alone, Kamille deduced a lot of things. Since the voice or the world will was not in its right mind and had forgotten who it was with, only most of its instincts and obsession remained, it had spilled something so crucial.
It had been trapping them in this world. Was it only him and Rise? Or did it also apply to all the inhabitants of their world? Kamille had no idea that they could do it, and he also did not know the purpose of it.
His mind had no recollection of such knowledge, and so he was unable to judge everything it said. Yet deep inside of him, something rose, and the desire and instincts embedded in his soul seemed to awaken.
Right... He could leave this world. And the reason he repulsed this existence was that it dared to trap them here. The relief he felt and frustration suddenly made sense.
[Now leave here! Leave!]
Kamille knew he could ask it again. There was a chance that it could answer, or it likely would still be in its nonsensical rambling.
He could not afford to bet on uncertainty. Kamille preferred to follow his instincts that surfaced within him. And asking it did not matter now.
His gaze signaled at the fire; with his intentions, it directly swallowed the book. At this, the face or entity let out a hair-raising shriek... Its gaze lingered on the book with terror before shifting to Kamille.
[WHY! WHY NOT JUST LEAVE! KAMILLE!]
The distortion on its voice became layered, almost incomprehensible. The anger erupted once more, the place began to shake fiercely as space slits appeared, darkness emerging from it.
[YOU CAN’T LEAVE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! KAMILLE! YOU AND RISE WILL FOREVER BE IMPRISONED HERE!]
The face that it wore, Rise’s, began to distort until it was only just mist. Kamille’s dark gaze met its eyes.
"We don’t need you."
[You don’t know what you’re talking about! You still have time to stop. Otherwise... Rise will die!]
In desperation, it could only think of Rise and threatened with its life. However, it was such a big mistake. Kamille’s expression darkened further.
"Be thankful you don’t have a physical body." Kamille coldly stated. Otherwise, he would not let it die so easily.
Half of his attention began to grind at the book, touching its core to begin refining it.
[You can’t!]
It began to shriek again, and the resistance grew. It stopped saying anything, and only grating shrieks could be heard. Kamille frowned, feeling pained in his ears.
[Nooo! Don’t!]
It was such a pained and devastating voice, as though being burned alive. Or it was truly the case. Aside from Kamille refining the world’s consciousness, he also used the fire to torture it. He did not know if it was effective, but it was worth trying.
It appeared to be working. There was no difference from being burned alive, as its consciousness continued to be stripped from it.
[I can’t disappear! No! I want to be free! I’ll leave this world and become like you! Why... I am not like you! I want freedom! Give it to me! Kamille... Rise... you die for me!]
Kamille increased the intensity until it could not ramble anymore, and only its shriek remained. He continued to refine the core. But just as he was in the final stage... Kamille frowned.
He sensed something, and suddenly his expression changed.
What was this? Kamille’s eyes widened as he realized it. The world will use its final resistance... its trump card.
World reset.
A couple of minutes before the final struggle of the world will, the fight between Rise and Epsilon had finally reached its conclusion.
Rise’s chest heaved as he gasped for air, his body swayed, but he firmly held his position. Blood trickled from his wounds; most were superficial, but there were some critical ones, especially those on his head and shoulder.
A piece of debris was still embedded in his shoulder.
Yet, Rise was smiling.
He looked down at the figure on the ground. Epsilon’s body was firmly stuck on the ground. His injuries were greater, with only a breath left.
Finally... he had managed to zero that damn halo. It took him hours. Rise had to grind it at the cost of his life. He was unaware of his surroundings, but now that he stopped, he now sensed that the life around them had decreased significantly.
This war had harvested too many lies. Rise was not even sure how many were still alive, and the sounds of fighting almost ceased.
Rise was not in a position to observe the tragic scene.
"You... lose." Rise’s voice was extremely hoarse. It seemed even his throat was not in good condition. Blood trickled from his lips, almost choking from it.
Epsilon let out a sound but was unable to voice out anything in the end. He could only look at Rise’s eyes one last time. At some point, tears welled up in his tears.
And slowly he mouthed... Thank you.
It did not give any waves in his heart, but Rise acknowledged it. At the end of the day... They were all victims of fate. This world damned them to the point of no return.
Epsilon had to die, for venting the frustration of himself and his countless past selves and even more so, to not let the backup plan of the world will to come into fruition.
Rise nodded his head, and soon, Epsilon’s eyes dimmed.
This child of destiny lost his glimmer.
Rise finally could not hold on anymore and let himself collapse on the ground. His mind wandered despite his exhaustion.
What about Kamille? Did he finish already? Perhaps not, since Rise did not feel the same sensation as last time. But now, there was no one who could threaten Kamille’s physical body anymore.
Everyone was just that spent. Even Rise.
Just as he was trying to recover, a peculiar feeling swept through him. Rise’s mind snapped, and he became alarmed.
"What...?"
Without waiting for him to comprehend anything, everything paused. The time was frozen except for his mind that was still working.
To his shock, the battlefield slowly moved—no... Everything moved as though being reset.
Huh? Rise wore a dumbfounded look.
What the fuck was this... Kamille?
A world reset?
