Chapter 351: Chapter 351: Shell of the Tortoise

The roar of the crowd still echoed through the Great Solaris Arena as Damon led his team back to the dugout.

Ariel was laughing, her arm wrapped around Flare’s shoulder. Mio and Mia were discussing Flare’s final strike with animated gestures. Seraphina walked with quiet pride, her chin held high.

But Damon’s attention had already shifted.

Grand Marshal Vane stepped to the center of the arena, his voice cutting through the noise.

"THE NEXT QUARTERFINALS MATCH!"

The projection array flickered above the arena.

BLACK TORTOISE SECT vs. VERMILION BIRD SECT

Damon settled onto the bench, his golden eyes fixed on the arena floor.

’This is the one to watch.’

The Black Tortoise Sect entered first.

Seven disciples in blue-black robes marched onto the stone floor. Their formation was tight, their steps synchronized, their faces blank as stone.

Their captain walked at the front.

He was a mountain of a man, broad-shouldered and thick-limbed, with a shaved head and a jaw that looked like it had been carved from granite.

His name was Shen.

Damon activated his Incubus Celestial Eyes.

The world sharpened.

Shen’s Qi was dense, layered, rooted deep in the earth. His cultivation sat at the Eighth Level of the Heavenly Spirit Realm. His spiritual roots were Earth-Water, Heaven Grade, Mid.

’Perfect for defense,’ Damon noted. ’He’s built like a fortress.’

The Vermilion Bird Sect entered next.

Fania led them.

Her crimson robes billowed as she walked, her flame-patterned sleeves trailing behind her like wings. Her eyes burned with barely contained fire.

Her cultivation was Ninth Level Heavenly Spirit Realm.

’Offensive powerhouse,’ Damon thought. ’But she burns hot and fast.’

Grand Marshal Vane raised his hand.

"BEGIN!"

Shen didn’t hesitate.

He stomped his foot.

The ground trembled.

Blue-black Qi erupted from the Black Tortoise disciples, converging into a massive dome that enclosed their entire formation.

The shell was dense, opaque, pulsing with the rhythm of synchronized breathing.

Damon watched as the dome’s base sank into the arena floor.

’Rooted,’ he observed. ’They’re drawing energy from the earth itself. Smart.’

Fania’s response was immediate.

She raised her hand.

Crimson fire exploded from her palm, a torrent of liquid flame that slammed into the Black Tortoise shell with enough force to shake the arena.

The crowd gasped.

The fire spread across the dome’s surface, licking at the blue-black Qi like a hungry beast. Steam erupted from the contact point, filling the arena with a thick, hissing fog.

But the shell held.

Damon leaned forward.

’Interesting.’

Alena moved closer to him, her voice low.

"Her fire output is too high."

Damon nodded. "I see it."

"She’s burning through her reserves faster than she can recover." Alena’s forest-green eyes tracked Fania’s movements with clinical precision. "If the shell holds for another five minutes, she’ll be empty."

Damon watched Fania’s face.

The Vermilion Bird captain’s jaw was clenched. Sweat beaded on her forehead. Her flames were powerful, devastating, but they lacked efficiency.

She was trying to brute force her way through a wall designed to absorb brute force.

’She’s not thinking,’ Damon thought. ’She’s reacting.’

Fania’s fire intensified.

The torrent became a pillar, a column of white-hot destruction that hammered the dome with relentless fury. The arena temperature spiked. The stone floor around the shell began to glow red.

But the Black Tortoise formation didn’t break.

Shen stood at the center of the dome, his hands pressed together, his eyes closed. His Qi pulsed in steady waves, redirecting the force of Fania’s attacks into the earth.

The ground beneath him cracked.

But he didn’t move.

’Discipline,’ Damon thought. ’That’s what wins wars.’

The battle dragged on.

Five minutes passed.

Ten.

The arena was a nightmare of steam and fire. The stone floor had melted in places, forming pools of molten rock that hissed and bubbled.

Vermilion Bird disciples fell one by one.

The first collapsed from Qi exhaustion, her flames sputtering out as she hit the ground.

The second was carried off by medics, her meridians scorched from overexertion.

The third, fourth, and fifth followed in quick succession, their bodies broken by the relentless heat they had poured into the Black Tortoise shell.

But the Black Tortoise paid their own price.

The dome flickered—a sickly, translucent shimmer that rippled across the surface like a dying heartbeat.

A disciple stumbled, his face pale as ash, blood dripping from his nose in a steady crimson stream that splattered against the cracked stone floor. Another fell to his knees, his Qi spent, his body trembling violently as the last dregs of his spiritual energy gave out. His hands clawed at the ground, nails scraping against the molten rock, but he could not rise.

Shen’s voice cut through the chaos, sharp and commanding, carrying the weight of absolute authority. "Hold the line."

The remaining disciples gritted their teeth and held. Their knuckles were white, their veins bulging against their skin, their faces twisted in agony as they poured every last ounce of their strength into the crumbling formation. The dome stabilized, just barely, a fragile shell of defiance against the inferno.

Grand Marshal Vane struck the gong, the resonant boom echoing through the arena. "FIVE ELIMINATED FROM EACH SECT!"

The crowd erupted. A deafening roar of cheers and gasps filled the air, spectators rising to their feet, their eyes wide with disbelief and excitement.

Damon leaned forward, his golden eyes locked on the arena, his lips curling into a faint, knowing smile. Only two fighters remained.

Shen stood at the center of the broken dome, his blue-black robes torn, his chest heaving. Blood dripped from his nose, but his eyes were steady, his stance unbroken.

Fania stood opposite him.

Her crimson robes were singed. Her hair was disheveled. Her flames had dimmed to a weak flicker, barely visible against her palm.

She was breathing hard.

Too hard.

Damon watched her hands.

They were shaking.

’She’s empty,’ he realized. ’She gave everything to break the shell. And it wasn’t enough.’

Shen raised his fist.

The ground trembled.

Fania’s eyes widened.

She raised her hand, trying to summon fire.

Nothing came out.

The crowd held its breath.
