Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 508: The Fleeing Lamb
Chapter 508: Chapter 508: The Fleeing Lamb
"Matthew Dawson’s position..."
Seraphina Sullivan pointed at the glowing dot on the Compass. "He’s getting farther away? A moment ago, he was about three kilometers to the northeast. Now... he’s moving even farther."
The dot of light was moving slowly, heading deeper into the city.
"I don’t know what’s happening."
Seraphina’s brow furrowed. "I hope he hasn’t run into any danger..."
As long as the Life Mark was still lit, it meant the person was alive.
But being alive didn’t mean he was safe. He could be on the run, in a fight, or trapped in a difficult situation.
She was about to say something when her gaze suddenly fell on another spot on the Compass.
Less than two hundred meters away from them, a Life Mark was blinking.
And that mark...
Seraphina froze for a moment.
She recognized this mark.
It was Lamb.
The animal player she had met in the Divine Kingdom of Sweet Dreams instance, one of the God of Sweet Dreams’s Beloved.
Back then, in the God of Sweet Dreams’s domain, he had appeared in Human Form and had even helped them a little.
Before leaving the instance, she had placed a mark on Lamb as well—just in case.
She never expected to run into him in this instance.
"Seraphina?" Crystal Lynn noticed something was off. "What’s wrong?"
Just as Seraphina was about to explain, the bushes ahead began to shake violently.
Crystal Lynn was instantly on alert. Beau, her White Jade Snake, poked its head out from her arms, its forked tongue flicking as its amber eyes watched the rustling leaves warily.
Crystal Lynn’s hand rested on her waist, where a short dagger was hidden, ready for a fight.
"Something’s coming!" she whispered.
The branches were pushed aside.
Then, a pitch-black sheep stumbled out.
It was a real sheep.
It stood on four hooves, covered in black wool, with a pair of curved horns on its head. But its eyes were filled with terror and exhaustion.
Its wool was matted with dirt and blood, and several distinct wounds marred its body, as if it had just escaped from somewhere dangerous.
Crystal Lynn was stunned.
"A sheep?" She frowned. "Is it a Demonic Creature?"
She didn’t dare let her guard down.
On their journey, she had seen too many Demonic Creatures—plants that attacked people, animals that went berserk. There was no way to know if this sheep was a monster Disguised as an ordinary animal.
"Beau, get ready," Crystal Lynn ordered in a low voice.
The White Jade Snake raised its head, its tongue flicking, ready to strike at any moment.
But Seraphina raised a hand to stop her.
"Wait."
She looked at the filthy sheep, a hint of surprise in her eyes.
’So this is what Lamb looks like outside the Divine Kingdom of Sweet Dreams? So miserable and filthy?’
In the Divine Kingdom of Sweet Dreams instance, she had seen Lamb’s Human Form.
A handsome young man who spoke with a slight stutter.
At the time, she had almost forgotten that his true form was actually a sheep.
’That makes sense,’ Seraphina thought. ’The Divine Kingdom of Sweet Dreams is the God of Sweet Dreams’s stronghold. It must be easy for him to let his Beloved take on Human Form within his own Divine Kingdom. Outside of it, they would naturally revert to their original forms.’
The black sheep—Lamb—had also spotted Seraphina.
He froze, then a glint of joyous surprise instantly erupted in his terrified eyes.
He recognized Seraphina!
The next second, Lamb broke into a run, charging straight for Seraphina!
Crystal Lynn jumped, instinctively moving to block him, but Seraphina held her back by the shoulder.
"BAA—!!!"
Lamb let out a shrill, excited bleat, his cry tinged with tears, as if he were yelling—
’A familiar face! My savior! I finally found someone I know!!!’
He bumped right into Seraphina’s legs, his own legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the ground, panting heavily and trembling all over.
The blood and dirt on his wool smeared all over Seraphina’s pant leg, but he was in no state to care.
Seraphina looked down at the black sheep collapsed on the ground, momentarily at a loss for words.
Crystal Lynn was also stunned, slowly lowering her dagger. "Seraphina... you know this sheep?"
"Yeah," Seraphina nodded. "A... friend I met in a previous instance. This sheep is an animal player."
The word "friend" coming from her made Lamb snap his head up, his sheep eyes welling with tears.
"Baa baa baa baa baa!!!" (You actually called me a friend! I’m so moved!!!)
He trembled with excitement, desperate to nuzzle his head against Seraphina’s hand.
Seraphina silently took a step back, dodging the muddy sheep’s head.
"Alright, calm down."
She crouched down, her gaze sweeping over the wounds on Lamb’s body. "First, tell me, what are you doing here? And what happened to you to get all these injuries?"
Seraphina looked down at Lamb collapsed at her feet, then glanced at Flora Sullivan beside her, and suddenly realized she had an awkward problem—
She couldn’t understand what a sheep was saying.
Although Lamb’s eyes were full of stories and his mouth was bleating "baa baa baa" nonstop, to Seraphina, it was all just... bleating.
Fortunately, she had Flora Sullivan.
"Sullivan," Flora Sullivan said, tilting her head to listen for a moment before translating. "The sheep says he was being chased by the Native People in this instance. They saw him as food and have been hunting him."
"Huh?" Crystal Lynn’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Chased by Native People? Are the Native People of this world that vicious?
They even eat mutated animals—no, wait, the point is, are the Native People of this world that strong?
Strong enough to chase a Player into this state?"
Lamb nodded frantically, his wool shaking.
"BAA—!!!" (It’s not a question of strong, it’s that they’re terrifying!!!)
His sheep eyes were filled with lingering fear, and his body was still trembling slightly. The experience had clearly left him with significant trauma.
Seraphina frowned.
’Native People can chase down a Player?’
’And while Lamb isn’t a combat-type Player, he’s still one of the God of Sweet Dreams’s Beloved and has a certain Special Ability. For them to chase him into this state, the strength of those Native People... ’
She was about to ask more when her ears twitched.
Footsteps.
And more than one person.
"Hurry, that fat sheep is over here!"
A man’s voice, excited and urgent, came from behind the trees not far away.
The next second, the bushes were parted, and a group of people emerged from the woods.
Seraphina’s gaze swept over them.
There were seven of them in total, all adult men. They wore simple but practical leather armor and carried various melee weapons—spears, machetes, bows and arrows, and one was even carrying a huge Shield.
Their faces bore the unique ferocity and wariness of hunters, and their eyes scanned the surroundings like wolves.
Then, they saw Seraphina and her group.
The leader’s steps faltered, and his expression instantly froze with confusion.
