Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 519: Rosa, the Demon God’s Pillar
Chapter 519: Chapter 519: Rosa, the Demon God’s Pillar
Seraphina Sullivan found a place in the settlement to sit and rest for a bit.
The continuous battles and travel had consumed a lot of her stamina. Although she still appeared calm on the surface, her body needed to recover.
Crystal Lynn and Flora Sullivan sat beside her. One rubbed her sore legs while the other closed her eyes to regulate her breathing.
Lamb, on the other hand, was full of energy. Its four hooves pattered around the settlement as it looked around curiously.
One moment, it would sidle up to the drying animal hides to sniff them; the next, it would crane its neck to watch what the Native People were doing; then, it tried to venture deeper into the settlement—
"Come back," Seraphina Sullivan said calmly.
Lamb’s hooves immediately skidded to a halt. It obediently turned and ran back to Seraphina Sullivan’s side, flopped onto the ground, and put on an "I’m a good pet" expression.
The surrounding Native People looked over but didn’t say anything.
In their eyes, the sheep was just Seraphina Sullivan’s pet. Nothing out of the ordinary.
—
Sean Chandler walked over.
"Rested up?" he asked.
Seraphina Sullivan nodded and stood up.
"Follow me." Sean Chandler turned and walked toward the deeper part of the settlement. "An old woman wants to see you."
Seraphina Sullivan followed him, passing through several rows of simple wooden huts until they arrived in front of the largest building in the center of the settlement.
This house was clearly sturdier than the other buildings. Its walls, built from logs, were thick and solid. Two Guards holding weapons stood at the entrance.
Seeing Sean Chandler, the Guards stepped aside to let them pass.
He pushed open the door. The light inside was somewhat dim.
An old woman sat at a wooden table in the center of the room, leaning on a wooden staff that was taller than she was.
Her head was full of silver hair, and her face was covered in deep wrinkles, but her eyes were exceptionally bright, like two gems polished by time.
Sean Chandler took a step forward and bowed slightly. "Granny Rosa, this is the teammate I told you about, Seraphina Sullivan."
Rosa’s gaze fell on Seraphina Sullivan, sizing her up.
Seraphina Sullivan was sizing her up as well.
The Eye of Resume quietly activated.
[Name: Rosa]
[Gender: Female]
[Professional Skills and Talents: None]
[Weaknesses: Old age, sickness, and death]
The data was simple—so simple it was almost ordinary.
No Awakened Ability, no special skills, just an ordinary old woman.
But Seraphina Sullivan’s brow furrowed slightly.
’This woman... gives me a strange feeling.’
The feeling was subtle, like a hidden undercurrent beneath a calm sea, or a venomous snake coiled in a seemingly harmless patch of grass.
She was clearly just an ordinary old woman with no abilities, but Seraphina Sullivan’s instincts were screaming a warning—
’Danger.’
’Very dangerous.’
’Why?’
Seraphina Sullivan’s gaze fell on the wooden staff in Rosa’s hand.
The staff looked perfectly ordinary, as if carved from common wood. Its shaft was smooth, and a fist-sized Blue Crystal Stone was embedded in the top.
A faint light seemed to flow within the crystal, as if it were alive.
With a thought, Seraphina Sullivan quietly activated Item Identification.
The next second, her pupils contracted sharply.
[Item Name: Divine Artifact: Demon God’s Pillar]
[Type: Divine Relic]
[Status: Damaged/Active]
[Effect: ???]
[Origin: The last Divine Artifact forged by the Demon God from his own spine before his fall. The Divine Power Crystal was condensed from his remaining Divine Power. The wielder can communicate with the Demon God’s residual consciousness, sense the degree of Demonization in the world, and channel the Power of the Demon God under specific conditions.]
[Note: This item is bound to Rosa. It cannot be taken or destroyed.]
’A Divine Artifact.’
’The Demon God’s Pillar.’
’A Divine Artifact forged from the Demon God’s spine.’
Seraphina Sullivan’s fingers tightened slightly, but her expression remained impassive.
’This seemingly ordinary old woman actually possesses something like this.’
’And—’
’She’s soul-bound to the Divine Artifact.’
’What does this mean?’
’It means that Rosa has some kind of extremely special connection to the Demon God.’
—
"You are Sean Chandler’s friend, which means you must be Players as well," Rosa said, her voice aged and gentle.
Seraphina Sullivan nodded.
Rosa smiled, a watery sheen appearing in her cloudy eyes.
"Good... very good..." she murmured. "Our world has hope once more."
She rose unsteadily to her feet, leaning on the Demon God’s Pillar, and walked toward Seraphina Sullivan step by step.
"The arrival of Players means the System has chosen our world again."
Her voice trembled slightly. "The Demon God’s hatred finally has a chance for Evolution..."
She looked up, and two streams of tears rolled from her cloudy eyes.
"You... you are our hope!"
Seraphina Sullivan watched her in silence, saying nothing.
Rosa wiped her tears, took a deep breath, and sat back down in her chair.
She patted the seat beside her, gesturing for Seraphina Sullivan to sit.
"Sit down, child," she said. "Let me tell you about this world’s true past."
Seraphina Sullivan sat down opposite her.
Sean Chandler stood to the side. Crystal Lynn and Flora Sullivan also came in and listened quietly.
Rosa’s gaze grew distant, as if piercing through time to see scenes from long, long ago.
"In the beginning, this world was just like yours. It was chosen by the System, Players were deployed, and disasters descended. Floods, droughts, earthquakes, plagues... one after another, they tormented everyone."
"But we were luckier than you."
"Because we had one person who rose from the disasters, who transformed from a Player, and who ultimately—became a God."
Rosa’s voice was filled with pride, nostalgia, and a deep sadness.
"The Demon God, the god of Magic Power. His strength could manifest as all sorts of wondrous abilities, and he used his Power to shelter this world, cutting it off from the System’s continued invasion.
The disasters stopped, and peace descended. People could live without fear, rebuild their homes, and watch their children run in the sunlight."
"Lord Demon God believed this was the best possible ending."
"But he was wrong."
Rosa’s voice dropped low, like a sigh forced from the depths of her chest.
"Some people were not satisfied."
"They looked upon Lord Demon God’s Power with greed, jealousy, and desire.
They were unwilling to remain ordinary people, unwilling to live forever under the Demon God’s protection.
They wanted Power, they wanted to become stronger, they wanted—to become new Gods."
"And so, a conspiracy began."
Seraphina Sullivan listened quietly. She had already heard some of this from Kyle Kane.
But what Rosa said next made her pupils contract again.
Rosa’s account was far more detailed.
"They used Lord Demon God’s wife and child as bait."
Rosa’s voice was hoarse. "Lord Demon God knew it was a trap, but he went anyway.
Because he loved his family. He couldn’t just stand by and watch them die."
"And then..."
Rosa closed her eyes as two more streams of tears slid down her face.
"Then, they killed Lord Demon God."
"Those despicable traitors... they devoured Lord Demon God’s flesh and blood, drank all of his Divine Blood, and made his bones into trophies to show off.
They thought that by doing this, they could obtain the Power of a God, become new Gods, open Novaria, and allow the System to descend."
"But they were wrong."
