Chapter 520: Chapter 520: The Demon God’s Sister

Rosa opened her eyes. Within their cloudy depths, a terrifying light burned.

"Before the Demon God died, he used the last of his power to forge this scepter."

She raised the Demon God’s Pillar in her hand. "He poured all of his hatred, his resentment, and his curse into it."

"Then, he gave this scepter to the only person in the world he could still trust."

Rosa looked at Seraphina Sullivan, speaking word by word:

"That person is me."

Seraphina Sullivan’s breath hitched.

"I am the Demon God’s... sister."

Rosa’s voice was aged and calm, but her cloudy eyes churned with a sorrow too great for any ordinary person to bear.

Seraphina Sullivan’s breath caught.

’Sister.’

’This seemingly ordinary old woman, who has no Abilities, is the Demon God’s sister?’

She opened her mouth to speak, but found she was at a loss for words.

Rosa seemed to see through her surprise, shaking her head with a bitter smile. "Surprising, isn’t it? How could a plain old woman be related to a Divine being?"

She didn’t wait for Seraphina Sullivan to answer, continuing on her own. "My brother was always stronger than me, even as a child. When our parents died, I was only five, and he was ten. He raised me all by himself, enduring every hardship and suffering every injustice. Later, when the apocalypse came, he was chosen as a Player. I was scared to death, thinking I’d never see him again."

"But he survived."

"Time and time again, he survived."

There was pride in Rosa’s voice, but it was overshadowed by a deep sorrow. "He grew stronger and stronger, more and more powerful, until finally... he became a God."

"I thought it was a good thing. He wouldn’t have to suffer anymore; he could finally live a peaceful life. He even brought me to his side, gave me the best of everything, let me live in the safest place..."

"I thought everything would be alright."

Her voice began to tremble.

"But I was wrong."

Seraphina Sullivan listened in silence, not interrupting.

Rosa took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, then looked at Seraphina Sullivan. "You said you met those people, the ones with Special Abilities... Awakeners?"

Seraphina Sullivan nodded and recounted in detail everything she had learned from Kyle Kane: their Awakened Abilities, their wariness toward Players, the "Lord Ancestral Witch" they spoke of, and their plan to sacrifice the three of them to this Ancestral Witch to obtain the "Blood of Awakening."

When Seraphina finished, Rosa’s gaze sharpened.

It was a sharpness that seemed utterly at odds with her aged appearance, and it made Seraphina Sullivan instinctively tense up.

"Ancestral Witch..." Rosa repeated the name, her voice laced with bone-deep hatred. "They still dare call themselves Ancestral Witches..."

"What exactly is the Ancestral Witch?" Seraphina Sullivan asked.

"When Kyle Kane and his people mentioned the Ancestral Witch, their worship and fanaticism... it wasn’t like normal reverence. And he said they were going to sacrifice us to the Ancestral Witch in exchange for the Blood of Awakening. Is the Ancestral Witch one person, or an organization?"

Rosa looked at her and began to speak slowly:

"The Ancestral Witch is not a single person."

Seraphina Sullivan’s brow furrowed slightly.

"’Ancestral Witch’ is a Title for five people," Rosa said, enunciating each word. "Those five are the masterminds who betrayed my brother, lured him into a trap, and killed him."

Seraphina Sullivan’s pupils shrank.

’Five.’

’Five Ancestral Witches.’

"They aren’t one person, but five beings," Rosa continued. "Back then, the five of them worked together to plot the deicide. They used my sister-in-law and my niece as bait, lured my brother into a trap, and then... killed him."

"But they didn’t get what they wanted."

Rosa’s voice held a trace of mockery and a hint of satisfaction. "They thought that by killing a God, they could become the new God. But they were wrong. A God’s Power isn’t something you can seize just by killing. After my brother died, his Divine Power spiraled out of control, and his body began to break down. The traitors panicked, afraid they would be left with nothing."

"So, they made an even crazier decision."

Seraphina already had a suspicion, but she still asked, "What decision?"

"They carved up my brother’s body." Every word from Rosa seemed forced through gritted teeth. "The five of them each devoured a part. They thought that by eating the flesh and blood of a Divine being, they could claim his power for themselves."

"And then what happened?" Crystal Lynn couldn’t help but ask.

Rosa looked at her, a strange light glinting in her cloudy eyes. "And then, my brother’s body instantly transformed into the Power of Demonization, seeping into every corner of the world."

"That is the truth of the Demonic Apocalypse."

A deathly silence fell over the room.

Crystal Lynn covered her mouth, the rims of her eyes reddening. Flora Sullivan’s long hair stirred without a wind, as if suppressing something.

Sean Chandler stood there in silence, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white.

Even Lamb stopped its bleating, lying quietly at Seraphina Sullivan’s feet.

Seraphina Sullivan closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

’Devouring the body of a god.’

’The Power of Demonization contaminating the world.’

’And the root of it all was nothing more than the greed of five people.’

"What about the five of them?" She opened her eyes, her gaze icy. "What happened to them after eating the flesh and blood of a Divine being?"

Rosa sneered. "What happened? They gained power, but they didn’t gain a Divine Position. They became beings far more powerful than ordinary Awakeners—you could call them Demigods, or you could call them monsters. But the price they paid was to be forever corroded by the Power of Demonization, never able to leave this cursed world."

"What’s more, they need to constantly absorb new power to sustain their existence."

Rosa looked at Seraphina Sullivan and said meaningfully, "Do you know what they absorb?"

Seraphina’s mind flashed back to what Kyle Kane had said: "A sacrifice to the Lord Ancestral Witch, to obtain the Blood of Awakening."

"Is it people’s Life Force?" she asked.

"People’s souls," Rosa corrected. "Especially souls filled with intense emotions—fear, despair, hatred, greed... The more extreme the emotion, the more delicious it is to them. That’s why they have people like Kyle Kane go around capturing people for sacrifice. It’s not for some ’Blood of Awakening,’ but to harvest souls."

Crystal Lynn couldn’t help but speak up. "That Blood of Awakening..."

"It’s fake," Rosa said coldly. "The so-called Blood of Awakening is nothing more than a bit of the Power of Demonization they force from their own bodies. The recipient does indeed gain power, but they are also corroded by that power, gradually turning into puppets who only know how to obey. Kyle Kane and his people stopped being truly ’human’ a long time ago."

Seraphina Sullivan was silent.

She remembered the look in the eyes of Kyle Kane and his people—their greed for the Space Equipment in her hands, their fanaticism for the sacrificial plan, their cold indifference and disregard for their own people...

’So that’s why. They stopped being human long ago.’

’They’re the Ancestral Witches’ puppets, walking sacrifices, the cancer cells of this cursed world.’

"Human greed..." Flora Sullivan said softly, her tone filled with complex emotions. "It truly is the sharpest weapon of self-destruction."
