The skies above the vast sea churned, beneath the raging waves of the ocean waters was a vacuum space hosting the presence of some and not all of the leaders of the ancient races.

The immortal race leader Jade Emperor wore a nasty scowl, as he cast his gaze on Neptune, the supreme leader of the water races.

"I thought we had more time," he hissed in a worried tone.

Neptune frowned but still kept his composure; nodding, he explained, "Even I didn’t see this coming..." he lamented.

"You! You don’t understand the severity of the situation, do you!" Jade Emperor growled furiously while pointing a finger at Neptune.

"What!" Neptune growled, "Is it my fault your oh-so-mighty race got eradicated by the sin of pride?" Neptune lashed back in fury.

Jade Emperor’s facial expression went pale in embarrassment, his gaze burning red with fury as he glared at Neptune, "And if not taken care of, your entire race will be eradicated, we can’t let a human claim the mantle of the seven deadly sins!

It will not only be dangerous for my race, but dangerous for anyone and anything not human!"

The Jade Emperor’s words sparked worry in the eyes of the leaders present—back then they were lucky not to bear the rage of the figure donning the mantle of pride.

The immortals bore the brunt of the beast, and even then they were almost pushed into extinction before they received outside help.

But now they were about to witness the incarnation of a being of such a level that was enough to cause worry to any sane mind.

And Neptune understood this too: the temple of the seven deadly sins was showing signs of activity, and the ones in charge knew what that signaled—the temple was going to open its doors.

But the problem was that, when this happened, only creatures of the awakened rank and below could step into this portal.

The ancient races were prepared to send in their prodigies, but they needed to eliminate the threat known as the human race.

As long as those guys continued to hold the title of hegemon, they would have unfair advantages that might grant them faster and easier access towards claiming a mantle.

And if the humans claimed that mantle, the ancient races wouldn’t even be able to remain a significant threat for much longer.

They would all be decimated; they were well aware of the capabilities of what the bearer of the pride mantle could do.

And they didn’t want to find out the broken nature of the sins on the receiving end. This was the ancient races’ worst outcome yet.

"Well, it’s too late — the humans seemed to have gained a ridiculous boost in strength and abilities. Worse, the flame dragon race had gone incognito; without those guys, we might as well forget about conquering the west now." Neptune explained all in one breath.

Everyone went silent, unable to argue against clear evidence and logic — everything Neptune said was true. Their chances of destroying the humans before the temple’s opening had subsided to zero percent.

They practically had no choice but to enter the temple with the humans; the thought of this possible outcome caused the Jade Emperor and the others to shiver in fright.

If the humans claimed a mantle before them, the consequences really would be disastrous. They needed to act very fast.

Glancing at each other with the resolve to do all it takes to prevent the humans from being able to gain access to the temple.

This time, the races present understood they needed to utilize their full strength, or the consequences would befall them all!

And there would be no hiding from it...

"This time..." Neptune started with a cold growl.

"We kill." Jade Emperor finished with a pitiless hiss, his eyes practically flashing crimson, as jade imprints glimmered on his flawless pale skin.

...

To the east of Asia, now spreading to the north after the convergence of the supercontinent Pangea...

Walking down a medical lab, where scientists in white worked on chemicals, their faces fully protected by military-grade filter smoke masks.

As they fiddled with chemicals, an occasional sharp hiss of toxic gases seeped out of the mixture from time to time.

Emperor Qin Shi Huang walked down to the very last man, a corpse—blue veins bulging across his face clearly visible even with the mask on, showing that this man died a slow and helpless death.

Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s eyes glowed with a glimmer of jade greed as he focused on the concoction of dark green swirling in a vial, sharp puffs of gases popping out from time to time as the surface bubbled.

This was the cause of the man’s death: a toxin so toxic even the military-grade filter face mask couldn’t handle it.

The Emperor’s face lit with appreciation. ’Yes, finally, they have done it! I heard they were geniuses, but this is beyond my expectations...’ he praised inwardly.

An assignment he had tagged to the newly subjugated Russian Empire had been completed, and with this new weapon in their hands, this war was as good as won.

To think they could improve bio-weapons to integrate with essence—Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s grin widened in excitement. With this, they could launch targeted attacks on these races.

As this deadly virus would be tweaked to target those with their genes and their genes alone, every other race would be immune, and that is how the slow eradication would work.

And because the virus had been genetically fashioned to feed on essence, strength and rank wouldn’t matter before it; it would sink its claws even faster the more pure and dense your essence was.

The Emperor raised his hands, forming a force field of green to contain the vial and the gases it emitted. Even its base state was enough to slay its creator — the Emperor wasn’t interested in finding out what the virus could do to him.

"Good, pull out the genetic data archive!" Since the beginning of this war, the Emperor had all the genetic engineers map out the entire genome of all ancient races they had encountered.

Now they just had to reverse the blueprint and mirror it onto the virus’s targeting system before installing the gases produced into an atomic disperser.

A type of bomb whose job is just to spread the virus as far as possible...
