Infinite Evolution: Dominating The Apocalypse With My God Tier Items
Chapter 341: Tension
"Mr. President, to soothe the soldiers we have to let them know where the newbloods are. If not, rumors travel, and they travel fast." A general demanded.
Facing this complaint was none other than President Cain. The humans have been performing really well when it came to defense.
And finally all generals and soldiers had begun to sense something amiss.
During the entire course of the war, not one soul had encountered the newbloods.
Team Apex, Alpha, Beta, and the rest had all but vanished into thin air.
Across the entire human occupied safe zones no one had detected their presence.
Naturally this was enough to spark concern in the hearts of the military leaders.
Hence why they were here today to hear from the President directly to know what was up with the newbloods.
President Cain remained silent, just last night to this morning, the human side had lost more soldiers than ever to a clash that they inevitably won.
Now all humans were at the bronze rank, it was only natural they felt stronger and more confident in themselves, enough to feel like they could finally show their true colors.
Most generals here were awakened-rank cultivation powerhouses, each older than a century, naturally they would like to take the newbloods under their control.
President Cain frowned, he had assumed that these brats would be able to keep their ambitions in check.
It seems he had to remind them why he was the one sitting on this seat.
A verdant glow sparked in his eyes, the air going heavy as a murderous intent soaked the atmosphere with its ever cold presence.
The prickling glare washed over all the generals, who grew silent in an instant, as saplings cracked out of the marbled ground.
Tendrils of glowing emerald vines caressing the necks of the generals in the room.
The bunch before him immediately went stiff, President Cain remained silent, unmoved almost nonchalant.
Yet everyone there felt they were staring right into the eyes of the devil.
His lips moved as he began to address them, "I know many of you have doubts about me, which is understandable seeing as I came and took over from nowhere."
The generals remained silent acknowledging how this was true, Cain was never meant to be the president.
No one even knew who he was, the only reason he was the president was because he took it by force.
Destroying and defeating the government within the span of a day, taking over the reins the same moment the origin descended.
In truth most of the government higher-ups actually believed Cain was the ambassador of the origin or aliens sent to groom the earthlings.
They knew nothing about him aside the fact that he was dangerously strong.
Cain was already much of a threat to them, which was why they couldn’t condone the presence of more uncontrollable elements.
The newblood soldiers, whom they saw as loyal to the President, were soldiers they had assigned in their hearts as enemies.
A cold flow trickled down their spines, causing the generals to shiver from fright.
They recalled the vivid image of blood flowing, heads rolling, and former powerful figures, who once stood as the head of the former government, dying.
It was a brutal, total, one-sided butchery. A fate they dreaded lurked closer than they imagined.
To think even after getting so powerful they still didn’t hold a candle to this man.
Who was he? Yes, he currently stood as President, and hadn’t done anything to compromise the fate of the human race, but still they couldn’t come to accept him.
President Cain’s cold gaze settled over every single one of them before he continued to speak.
"But you see, I don’t care, you all are disposable to me and I will do just fine without you, I’m only keeping you all alive because humanity still needs your strength."
President Cain’s fingers rapped against his recliner, as he stared at the holographic image of Seth before him.
"I have the mission on this earth to lead humanity to supremacy as long as you don’t interfere with that and you don’t press for unrelated issues. I have no issues letting you lot keep your lives."
He ended with a cold slam of his fist to his arm rest.
The generals instantly understood what was happening.
The absence of the newbloods was related to the President, he was most likely the person behind their absence.
The generals glanced at one another, feeling the cold trickle of a plant coiling around their necks, growing tighter by the second. The generals had no choice.
They could hardly breathe right now, talkless of resistance, the President seemed to have a special first infliction ability.
One that was extremely potent at that, the generals quickly struggled to nod in silence.
The defiance in their eyes dimming quite a bit, President Cain observed them for a few drawn-out seconds of silence.
Honestly deliberating whether they were better off dead or alive.
"Fuck it! In the end I still need them to serve as deterrence to the private forces."
Humans were power hungry ghouls, that would do anything to hold onto power.
So Cain had no choice but to take it by force, just like all the awakened monarchs had to do.
Except that while the monarchs did have a loyal army bound to their existence.
Cain, who wasn’t a world-ordained monarch, had none of that, leaving him no choice but to do things by himself.
Now fortunately there was Seth who he could disclose his identity to and trust as an ally, by this means he already had all the new bloods as loyal forces.
As long as Seth remained on his side, the newbloods would continue to be loyal.
He had long given up on the old generation, but he couldn’t dispose of them, and that was again because of their usefulness.
Their prowess was what was keeping the ancient races at bay, and ever since Seth had enlightened the minister of defense...
The humans had focused on lethal weapon technological progress.
And progress they had, in all sorts of fields, human innovation was moving a thousand times faster than ever estimated.
And in order to keep all these together and on track, whether he liked it or not he needed these overly ambitious brats.
He waved his hands as he dismissed the bunch. "You can leave, I hope for your own sake you remember who is in charge in any decision you make henceforth."
The cohort of middle-aged looking veterans frowned and swallowed, before promptly leaving without saying a single word.
In fear of provoking Cain any further, today they were just here to poke the bear and they were realizing that was a very bad idea.
"Send my word." A general suddenly stated, the elderly-looking man carried a dense aura of discipline and control.
His military nature speaking loud at a glance, beside him a shadow flickered.
"Halt all present attempts at searching for the newbloods, now isn’t time to aggravate that monster as long as we hold the same goals currently..."
...
Meanwhile back in the office, President Cain remained seated, his hands clasped before him as he wandered in worry.
"Seth, where the hell are you..." he muttered in worry, staring at the blank holographic depiction of all hundreds of soldiers showing a faded dull grey marker above their heads.
Since the reward had been delivered, the satellite had lost contact with all seven divisions, unable to sense the tracking chips installed into their mechas and battle armour.
And Cain feared they might be dead or dying...
