Infinite Nightmares

Chapter 233: Self

Faced with Zhang Wenda’s question, the exhausted blue rabbit offered a calm analysis.

"If we agree, there’s a high probability we can get Uncle back. This would maximize our own interests. As for killing a few people from the Third Line as a pledge of allegiance, that’s not our responsibility. We’re being forced into this."

An extremely anxious Zhang Wenda paced back and forth on the pink sand. "No! Absolutely not!"

The blue rabbit’s eyes followed Zhang Wenda from left to right. "Let’s analyze this rationally. Although he didn’t say it, we both understand his subtext. If we don’t agree, everyone here will die. Whether we agree or not doesn’t actually make a huge difference."

"Since people are going to die whether we agree or not, why should we do something that’s both difficult and thankless?"

Zhang Wenda charged right in front of the rabbit, staring fixedly into its lifeless red eyes. "I don’t want to hear your rational, bullshit analysis! Right now, I just need you to give me back the part of my power that belongs to me!"

This time, the other didn’t refuse. It just turned, walked off the pink island, and returned to the cubicle. Pointing at the computer, it said, "Continue."

’You motherfucker!’ Fury surged within Zhang Wenda, but he forced it back down.

"Fine, I’ll continue. But I’m telling you, we’re running out of time!" Zhang Wenda sat down again, his rabbit paws rapidly tapping on the keyboard.

He had never been so focused on his work before. Lines of code scrolled upwards continuously. Time passed, second by second, and the countdown drew ever closer.

Just as the countdown was about to enter its final minute, just as Zhang Wenda was about to finish his code, BANG! The screen went black.

Zhang Wenda’s pupils trembled as he turned to see the blue rabbit’s paw pressing the restart button on the computer tower. "You still don’t understand, do you? This is all futile."

The rage in Zhang Wenda’s heart could no longer be suppressed. He charged forward, grabbed the rabbit by its fur, lifted it into the air, and swung his right fist toward its head.

The blue rabbit looked at him with a lifeless expression. "Is this the extent of your tolerance? If this is all it is, you will never be able to master the power of rationality."

Seeing Zhang Wenda’s trembling fist slowly lower, it spoke again calmly. "Calm down. Think about it carefully. The truth is, I am not the test of rationality. Qianxi’s appearance is."

"This so-called ’finding yourself’ is simply the sum of every choice you make when faced with a major decision."

"Only by making a choice regarding Qianxi can we truly master the blue. Given our obvious lack of strength, a temporary submission is perfectly rational."

"Even if it means using Wang Xiaohua and the others as a pledge of allegiance?" Zhang Wenda stared at it in disbelief.

"Correct. Whether it’s Wang Xiaohua or Song Jianguo, their priority is not as high as our own. For our own sake, anyone can be abandoned. Only by thinking with absolute rationality can you master your true self."

Hearing this, Zhang Wenda slowly lowered his fist. The next second, his fist smashed into the blue rabbit’s face without hesitation. "Go fuck yourself! You’re so fucking disgusting!"

"If that’s how it is, then I’d rather not have this so-called ’blue’! I’ll never admit that a thing like you is a fucking part of me!" Filled with rage, Zhang Wenda relentlessly smashed his fists into the other’s face.

"Rational choice, my ass! I’m not choosing either side! I’d rather fucking die and rip a chunk of flesh off Qianxi with my bare teeth than just scrape by to survive!"

The more Zhang Wenda thought, the angrier he became. The fury in his heart swelled, his blows grew heavier, and the tips of scythes even began to emerge from his rabbit paws.

The sharp scythes sliced through the blue rabbit’s fur, revealing a body full of holes underneath. A hideous, terrifying monster crawled out from within and began attacking Zhang Wenda.

More and more wounds appeared on Zhang Wenda’s body. Beneath the mangled flesh and blood, a body full of holes was also revealed.

Ten scythes scraped away all the rabbit fur from Zhang Wenda’s body as if deboning him. The pain caused the flames of rage in his heart to burn even brighter, rapidly incinerating what little sanity he had left.

As more and more of his own flesh fell away, he began to look more and more like his opponent.

Finally, as the reborn, blood-soaked Zhang Wenda forcefully swung a final claw, the scythe-monster opposite him shattered like a mirror. Only one monster remained.

When Zhang Wenda stood firm again, he found he had completely transformed. Blood poured from every hole in his body. He was now nearly 4 meters tall, and his terrifying appearance struck a trace of fear into the eyes of the others.

A power that made his blood boil and his scalp tingle surged from deep within him, tinting his vision red. At that moment, Zhang Wenda suddenly understood. He had passed the blue test, but the reward was red.

He didn’t know what that red was, nor could he say what he had gained. It was probably the red part of himself.

The ability to describe things rationally was a power of the blue. Since he was now red, he lacked it and couldn’t articulate his state. What he felt now was primarily instinct.

He looked around, his vision perfectly clear. He saw, within all the prefabricated humans around him, a red that had long been extinguished.

He didn’t know how he could see the color inside their bodies, but he just could.

Just then, Qianxi slowly reappeared in the air. He looked at Zhang Wenda, somewhat surprised by his sudden transformation.

But he didn’t seem overly shocked. He floated directly in front of Zhang Wenda and asked again, "Time is up. Have you made your decision?"

Zhang Wenda opened his mouth full of sharp teeth and exhaled a puff of hot air. A wildly arrogant smile spread across his monstrous face. "Heheheh~ I’ve made my decision."

As he slowly opened his hand, almost by instinct, the power Zhang Wenda had just mastered surged from his body. Like a sky full of heart-fire, it spread outwards, seeping into the bodies of the prefabricated humans.

"To lose your humanity is to lose much, but to lose your bestial nature is to let yourselves be slaughtered! Wake up! Take back the power that belongs to you!"

The extinguished red was reignited. As the red within the hearts of all the prefabricated humans lit up once more, they slowly took their hands off their keyboards. In unison, they turned to look at Zhang Wenda in the center.

Their eyes were vacant. But as the red within their hearts began to pulse, their eyes gradually cleared.

They suddenly realized something was wrong. ’This isn’t right. We’re people, not machines. We shouldn’t be working day and night like this.’
