Chapter 127: Who Dares Block My Gate?
Chapter 127: Who Dares Block My Gate?
After ending the call with Mason, Chloe placed her phone on the desk and returned her attention to the documents in front of her.
A few moments later~
Knock.
Knock.
Her office door opened gently.
A young woman in a professional black suit stepped inside, holding a tablet in one hand.
"Miss Everhart."
"You have three appointments scheduled for this afternoon."
"And tomorrow’s schedule is completely full."
"I’ve also confirmed the conference with the Everstone Group’s legal team."
The assistant waited respectfully for Chloe’s instructions.
Without even looking up, Chloe spoke calmly.
"Cancel them."
The assistant blinked.
"...Excuse me?"
Chloe finally raised her eyes.
"I said..."
"Cancel today’s appointments."
"And tomorrow’s as well."
The room fell completely silent.
For a brief moment, the assistant thought she had misheard.
Cancel?
Miss Chloe Everhart?
The woman whose schedule was booked months in advance?
This was the first time since joining the firm that she had ever heard Chloe voluntarily cancel appointments.
"...Y-Yes, Miss Everhart."
The assistant hurriedly nodded before rushing out.
Less than a minute later, the entire law firm was in an uproar.
"What happened?"
"Did someone offend Miss Everhart?"
"Why are today’s appointments cancelled?"
"She even postponed tomorrow’s clients!"
"Who could possibly be important enough for that?"
The whispers spread throughout the entire office.
Everyone knew Chloe’s personality.
She was cold.
Strict.
And absolutely intolerant of mistakes.
No one dared ask unnecessary questions.
Back inside the office, Chloe calmly packed several files into her leather briefcase.
Just then, the assistant knocked again.
"Miss Everhart..."
"The transportation has been prepared."
Chloe nodded slightly.
"I’m leaving for a private case."
The words alone sent another wave of shock through the office.
A private case?
It had been years since Chloe had personally handled one.
Most cases were delegated to her senior associates.
Whatever had happened...
It had to be important.
At that moment, her phone vibrated softly.
A new message appeared.
It was from Mason.
Address attached.
Sorry for troubling you, Chloe.
Seeing the message, Chloe shook her head helplessly.
She had known Mason for years.
He was usually carefree and rarely took anything seriously.
For him to personally call and repeatedly ask for help...
The person involved must be someone extraordinary.
Without replying, she saved the address and walked out of her office.
Outside, three black Cadillac Escalades were already waiting at the entrance.
Several bodyguards stood beside the vehicles.
As Chloe appeared, they immediately opened the rear door.
She stepped inside without a word.
Moments later~
The convoy slowly drove away from the law firm.
Meanwhile...
Lucas had absolutely no idea what was happening.
After Mason told him that he would contact someone suitable, Lucas simply assumed it would take a day or two.
So, with nothing else to do, he lazily lay across his bed, casually playing a game on his phone while waiting.
Downstairs, Debbie and Daisy were chatting quietly in the living room.
Everything felt unusually peaceful.
Then~
A deep rumble echoed from outside the villa.
Lucas frowned.
"Hm?"
He casually walked over to the bedroom window and pulled the curtain aside.
The moment he looked outside...
He froze.
Three identical black Cadillac Escalades had stopped neatly outside his gate.
Lucas slowly walked toward the front gate, his eyes fixed on the convoy of black Escalades parked outside his villa.
Three luxury SUVs.
Dark-tinted windows.
Not a single movement.
Whoever had arrived made no attempt to introduce themselves or even roll down a window.
Lucas frowned slightly.
He wasn’t expecting visitors today.
Especially not visitors who acted like this.
He stopped a few meters away from the gate and folded his arms across his chest.
"If you’re here to see me," he muttered under his breath, "the least you can do is introduce yourself."
One minute passed.
Then another.
Still nothing.
The convoy remained completely silent.
Lucas gradually lost his patience.
"...What a strange bunch."
He shook his head and turned around, ready to head back inside.
If they weren’t willing to speak, then he wasn’t interested in entertaining them.
Just as he took two steps~
Bang!
One of the Escalade doors swung open.
A burly man in a black suit stepped out.
He was well over six feet tall, his muscular frame making the expensive suit look stretched to its limits. Dark sunglasses covered his eyes, and his expression was full of arrogance.
Without even greeting Lucas, the man pointed at the gate and barked,
"Hey!"
"Open the damn gate!"
"Are you blind?"
His voice echoed across the quiet street.
Lucas stopped walking.
Slowly...
He turned around.
For a brief second, he wondered if he had heard wrong.
This idiot...
Had just come to his house...
And was shouting at him to open the gate?
The corners of Lucas’s lips slowly curled upward.
It wasn’t anger.
It was amusement.
He walked back toward the gate, his hands casually tucked into his pockets.
Stopping in front of the bodyguard, he smiled faintly.
"Looks like all those muscles have gone to your head."
"You think having a big body means you can intimidate everyone you meet?"
The bodyguard’s face immediately darkened.
He hadn’t expected the young man in front of him to talk back.
Lucas, however, remained completely calm.
His smile never disappeared.
"If you want something from me..."
"The first thing you should learn..."
"...is how to ask politely."
Lucas remained standing calmly in front of the gate, his expression relaxed as he looked at the arrogant bodyguard.
To Lucas, this wasn’t even an argument.
It was simply one loudmouthed idiot who had grown too accustomed to throwing his weight around, believing everyone would bow their heads the moment he spoke.
The bodyguard’s face grew uglier by the second.
No one had ever dared speak to him like this while he was on duty.
Just as he was about to say something else~
Another door of the Escalade opened.
A second bodyguard stepped out.
Unlike the first, this one didn’t waste words.
His sharp eyes immediately locked onto Lucas, and his entire posture became tense.
His fists slowly clenched.
He looked like a predator ready to pounce at the slightest command.
The atmosphere instantly became much heavier.
Inside the villa, Debbie and Daisy had been chatting quietly in the living room.
The loud voices from outside naturally caught their attention.
"What happened?"
Daisy frowned.
Debbie shook her head.
"I don’t know."
The sisters exchanged a glance before standing up and walking toward the entrance together.
As soon as they stepped outside, they immediately saw the confrontation at the gate.
Two heavily built bodyguards stood opposite Lucas.
Their expressions were hostile, while Lucas stood there alone with his hands still casually in his pockets.
Anyone else would have thought he was at a disadvantage.
But Debbie and Daisy didn’t feel worried in the slightest.
Instead, they looked at each other with strangely calm expressions.
After everything they had witnessed over the past few days...
Especially seeing Lucas kick down the thick copper doors of the loan shark’s headquarters as if they were made of cardboard...
They knew better than to worry for him.
If anything...
They silently began wondering whether these two bodyguards had any idea who they had just decided to provoke.
