Chapter 128: The Queen of Lawyers
Chapter 128: The Queen of Lawyers
Just as the atmosphere reached its breaking point, the second bodyguard took a step forward.
His fists clenched. The veins on his arms bulged beneath his suit.
One more word... One more provocation... And he was prepared to throw the first punch.
Across from him, Lucas’s expression remained calm. His eyes gradually turned cold.
If this idiot really dared to make a move... Lucas wouldn’t mind teaching him the lesson of his life.
Just then~
Click.
The rear door of the middle Escalade slowly opened.
Everyone instinctively turned toward it.
A pair of elegant black heels touched the ground first.
Then a tall, graceful woman stepped out.
She wore a perfectly tailored white suit that accentuated her slender figure. Her long dark hair flowed naturally behind her shoulders, and every movement she made carried an indescribable elegance.
She wasn’t merely beautiful.
She possessed the kind of presence that naturally silenced a crowd.
Even the two bodyguards immediately lowered their heads.
"Miss Everhart."
Her gaze swept across the scene before finally landing on Lucas.
Her voice wasn’t loud. Yet everyone heard it clearly.
"I’m here to meet a client."
Lucas raised an eyebrow.
"A client?"
"And who exactly are you?"
The woman looked directly into his eyes.
"My name..."
"Chloe Everhart."
She spoke her name calmly.
Yet somehow... Just hearing those two words made it feel as though the air itself had grown heavier.
Lucas remained expressionless.
"So?"
Chloe blinked slightly.
Most people who heard her name reacted with shock. Some became nervous. Others immediately became respectful.
Lucas...
Didn’t react at all.
Seeing that she had no intention of explaining further, Lucas crossed his arms.
"You’ve told me your name."
"But you still haven’t answered my question."
"Who are you looking for?"
Chloe replied calmly,
"I’m a lawyer."
Hearing that, realization finally dawned on Lucas.
So... This must be the person Mason had arranged.
Still... His impression wasn’t exactly great.
Her bodyguards had nearly started a fight at his front gate.
Standing beside Lucas, Debbie suddenly froze.
Her breathing quickened. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
"C-Chloe..."
She could hardly believe what she was seeing.
As a former law student and lawyer, Chloe Everhart wasn’t simply famous.
She was a legend.
The dream of countless lawyers.
Someone people spent their entire careers hoping to meet just once.
And yet...
Lucas had just looked her in the eye...
...and asked,
"Who are you?"
Debbie couldn’t hold it in anymore.
She hurriedly stepped closer to Lucas and lowered her voice.
"Lucas..."
"Do you even realize what you’ve just done?"
Lucas looked at her in confusion.
"What?"
"You kept her waiting!"
"You questioned who she was!"
"You even argued with her bodyguards!"
Debbie looked as if her world had just collapsed.
She took a deep breath before explaining,
"She’s Chloe Everhart!"
"The number one litigation lawyer in the country."
"No..."
"One of the best lawyers in the entire world."
"Do you know how many lawyers dream of working under her?"
"People spend years hoping to become one of her assistants."
"Some would consider it the greatest honor of their careers just to shake her hand."
"And you..."
"...you actually kept someone like her standing outside your gate!"
Lucas blinked twice.
He looked at Chloe.
Then looked back at Debbie.
A puzzled expression slowly appeared on his face.
"Wait..."
"Did you just say..."
"I stressed her?"
Debbie nodded repeatedly.
"Exactly!"
Lucas frowned.
"No..."
"I think you’re mistaken."
He pointed toward the broken atmosphere outside the gate.
"She stressed me."
"Her bodyguards came to my house."
"They shouted at me."
"They wanted to force me to open my own gate."
"So tell me..."
"Who exactly stressed who?"
Debbie froze.
"..."
When she thought about it...
Lucas actually had a point.
But...
That was Chloe Everhart!
Lucas simply shrugged.
"I don’t care how famous she is."
"If her people don’t have manners..."
"Then neither do I."
Debbie stared at him in complete disbelief.
She suddenly realized something.
Lucas genuinely had no idea just how terrifying Chloe Everhart’s reputation was.
Or perhaps...
He simply didn’t care at all.
Meanwhile, Chloe wasn’t paying attention to Debbie at all.
Her eyes remained fixed on Lucas.
"So..."
"You’re Lucas Gray?"
Lucas nodded.
"I am."
For the first time since arriving...
A trace of surprise appeared on Chloe’s usually calm face.
Not because of the mansion.
Not because of the Bugatti.
But because of Lucas himself.
The person Mason had practically begged her to help...
The person he claimed was worth postponing dozens of billionaire clients for...
Was actually...
A university student.
That wasn’t the image Chloe had imagined at all.
She had expected an elderly business tycoon.
A hidden billionaire.
Someone with decades of influence.
Instead...
Standing before her...
Was a young man barely in his twenties.
Her curiosity instantly grew.
Without saying another word, she took out her phone and quietly opened the message Mason had sent earlier.
She glanced at the attached photo.
Then looked back at Lucas.
It was him.
There was no mistake.
For a brief moment, Chloe remained silent.
Now that she had confirmed Lucas was the client Mason had desperately begged her to help, she found herself in an unfamiliar situation.
Normally, if someone had kept her waiting, questioned her identity, and argued with her bodyguards, she would have ended the appointment immediately and walked away without another word.
That was simply how she worked.
She never tolerated disrespect.
Yet today...
She didn’t leave.
Instead, her curiosity had been completely piqued.
Just who exactly was Lucas Gray?
Mason had practically begged her to come.
Lucas himself had treated her reputation as if it meant nothing.
He was the first person she had met in years who didn’t seem the least bit intimidated by the name "Chloe Everhart."
For the first time in a long while...
She genuinely wanted to know who someone was.
Without saying another word, Chloe walked through the gate.
Lucas frowned slightly before overtaking her.
Since this was his house, he naturally led the way.
If he was being honest...
He didn’t like this woman at all.
Not even a little.
She was beautiful. Elegant. Powerful.
But the arrogance surrounding her was impossible to ignore.
Behind them, Debbie and Daisy quickly followed, while Chloe’s bodyguards remained a respectful distance away.
Debbie’s face was filled with excitement.
Every few seconds, she would secretly glance at Chloe before smiling to herself.
Lucas noticed her strange behavior but couldn’t understand it.
He simply shook his head.
"Lawyers really are a strange bunch..."
A few moments later, everyone entered the spacious living room.
Lucas was just about to invite everyone to sit.
Before he could even open his mouth~
Chloe calmly sat down on the sofa as though she were in her own office.
She crossed one elegant leg over the other and placed her briefcase neatly beside her.
Her posture was graceful. Confident. Commanding.
It only reinforced Lucas’s first impression.
This woman...
Was unbelievably bossy.
You didn’t even need five seconds with her to realize that.
Looking directly at Lucas, Chloe spoke in her usual calm tone.
"My consultation fee is ten thousand dollars per hour."
"My time starts the moment I begin working."
She paused briefly before asking,
"So..."
"Are you prepared to retain me for this case?"
